Bassmaster New Rules? NPFL makes a big change and bans Forward Facing Sonar "Live Scope"
Fishing the DMV Call-In Show! I want to hear from all of you!!!
Join us this Monday Night Live (on a Tuesday) as we open up the lines to listeners to discuss a major development in the world of competitive bass fishing. The National Professional Fishing League (NPFL) has announced that starting with the 2025 season, the use of forward-facing sonar technology will be banned during both official practice and competition.
This decision comes after extensive discussions and highlights the challenges of incorporating such advanced technology into competitive fishing. Forward-facing sonar has revolutionized how anglers engage with their surroundings and strategize during competitions by providing unparalleled insights into fish behavior. However, this advancement has also raised concerns about maintaining the sport's traditional competitive balance. The NPFL's decision seeks to address these concerns by ensuring a broader range of techniques and skills remain essential to the competition, preserving the diversity that defines the sport.

    If they would draw Lake Guntersville down 6ft in the wintertime, I think it would fix alot of the problem. Or it would at least kill back alot of the grass population every year without having to spray chemicals in the lake. Lake Chickamauga has a draw down every year. I don't see near the problems there.

      I just posted about it! Limiting Live Sonar Transducers: Competitors are restricted to one FFS (live sonar) transducer, mounted on the trolling motor at the bow of the boat. A vetted list of acceptable transducers will be provided. 2. Screen Size Restrictions: Total screen size for head units on boats is limited to 55 inches to reduce safety concerns caused by potential blind spots. 3. Single Electric Motor Rule: Only one electric motor is allowed per boat, no more (trolling motor brakes)

    Forgive my ignorance, as I am still learning these DMV river fisheries and the tournaments. Are the bags limited to largemouth, or is a mix of large and smallies acceptable? I know largemouth tend to be larger, but there are some slob smallies out there.

      No problem, for any bass fishing tournament, you’re legally allowed to bring in largemouth, or smallmouth and some locations where they are spotted bass/Alabama bass you are allowed to bring them in as well as long as they are of legal size 😊

    People want to ban forward facing sonar not for conservation reasons, but for viewing reasons. It’ll take a while to provide enough data to prove that forward facing sonar alone is affecting bass fishing negatively. Personally, I’ve been watching bass fishing for 34 years, I’m a lifetime member of Bassmaster for 31 years, and I have fished 138 BFLs. I like the old way bass fishing was shown and that was with highlights. Showing eight hours of live fishing is boring to me no matter if you’re using FFS or not because you have to wait for a catch. Posting highlights saves me from wasting eight hours of my life. Keep FFS to increase the number of catches and weights and let the organizations show us a diverse amount of highlights to keep us excited and educated. Have all the anglers put 360 GoPros (make them a circuit sponsor) in their boats and have them send clips to the organizations to highlight their catches, patterns, and equipment to help promote their sponsors. They can use the same video for their UA-cam channels.

    We went up last month for a little family vacation and ive never been so petrified on my boat in my life. Didnt really get to fish at all but loved the area. Im all for people having fun on the lake but theres no reason for people being so reckless and operating so close to one another.

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv 9 днів тому

      It sounds like your trip had its ups and downs-I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the area, but it's unfortunate that your time on the water was so stressful. Safety on the lake is definitely a big concern, and I completely agree that there's no excuse for reckless behavior out there. Everyone deserves to have fun, but it should never come at the expense of others' safety or peace of mind. Hopefully, the next time you're out on the water, it's a much smoother experience, and you get to enjoy some quality fishing time. Thanks for sharing your experience-it's a good reminder for everyone to stay safe and considerate on the lake.

      That sounds like an awesome setup! Fishing the electric reservoirs with a custom Jon boat must be a great experience, especially with the peaceful environment those places offer. The Upper Susquehanna is also a fantastic spot, and having a kayak with a Torqueedo motor gives you the best of both worlds-quiet paddling and the ability to cover more water efficiently. What kind of fish are you usually targeting in those areas?

    Dude... Trey has had this coach for years. He was his fishing partner and taught him the things he needed to do to get to the elites and how to survive in the tournament world. He doesn't have to give Trey waypoints or anything else. No offence but you need to do your homework before touting misinformation. Trey is a stick. Had his own tv show at 12 where sticks were actually teaching him patterns and how to fish structure. Trey can find his own spots. Ricks real last name is Cheatham. He's a former FLW pro. Once again, homework. Oh by the way, its Johnston not Johnson. Cory was in the wrong. The spot doesn't have their name on it. They even said on live it was a "community hole".

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv 16 днів тому

      If you actually listen to the episode all the way through you would know the conclusion reached which is the correct one is that Trey is not guilty of anything. My point was about how professional organizations should approach the broader idea of Fishing Coach. While Trey’s achievements are impressive and undeniable, the conversation about coaching in professional fishing is bigger and there should be a conversation about it.

    • @eatsquawk
      @eatsquawk 16 днів тому

      @@fishingthedmv you're right I didn't watch the whole episode. I'd go back and watch the rest but just what you said there was enough for me. Anglers have always had mentors help them along. The only difference here is that Trey actually acknowledges him as his coach. Most of these elites never made it on their own and will tell you that. As we see the youth movement explode we're gonna see more of this. It's what we've been working for for years.

    • @cerebraltackle
      @cerebraltackle 16 днів тому

      You don't get it. Trey no longer has a coach. There hasn't been one ever since he got to the elite series. You really need to do research before opening up your hole. How you have this many subscribers breaks my brain. There's two brain cells here both fighting for third place. Actually do research! @@fishingthedmv

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv 16 днів тому

      What you're saying is factually incorrect

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv 16 днів тому

      I appreciate your perspective and understand where you're coming from. Mentorship has always been a significant part of any sport, including fishing, and there's no doubt that having someone guide and support you can make a huge difference in an angler's career. Acknowledging that relationship openly, as Trey does with his coach, is commendable and sets a positive example. The broader conversation isn't about the value of mentorship but about how these relationships are managed in the context of competitive fairness. As the sport evolves and more young anglers come up through the ranks, it’s important to have clear guidelines to ensure that everyone competes on an even playing field. This is especially true as the distinction between a mentor and a coach can sometimes blur, particularly when it comes to sharing information or strategies. Your point about the youth movement in fishing is well taken-it's exciting to see the next generation stepping up, and with them, the sport will continue to grow and adapt. As this happens, it's crucial that we maintain a balance between honoring the traditional mentor-mentee relationships and ensuring the integrity of the competition. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you'll consider watching the rest of the episode to get the full context of the discussion.

    Fishermen shouldn't need a referee in the boat. Should be a gentlemen's sport... problem is at this level they get blinded by trying to make a dollar and develop a fan base and common sense unwritten rules go right out the window.

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv 16 днів тому

      The idea that fishing should remain a "gentlemen's sport" without the need for referees in the boat is an admirable sentiment rooted in tradition. However, the reality of modern competitive fishing, particularly at the professional level, presents challenges that necessitate a more structured approach. As the sport has evolved, so too has the level of competition. With higher stakes-such as significant monetary rewards, sponsorship deals, and media exposure-comes the potential for increased pressure on anglers. This pressure can, unfortunately, lead to situations where the "gentlemen's rules" are overlooked or misinterpreted. The introduction of referees in the boat isn't about undermining the integrity or spirit of the sport; rather, it's about ensuring fairness, consistency, and transparency in a high-stakes environment. Additionally, having referees in the boat can protect the reputation of the sport and its participants. When common sense or unwritten rules are violated-whether intentionally or unintentionally-it can lead to controversy, which in turn can harm the sport's image and the public's trust. Referees serve as impartial arbiters, ensuring that the competition is conducted fairly and that any disputes are resolved promptly and objectively. while the notion of fishing as a "gentlemen's sport" is noble, the realities of professional competition make the presence of referees a necessary evolution. Their role ensures fairness, maintains the sport's integrity, and supports its continued growth in a modern, high-stakes environment. Unwritten rules can create several problems, particularly in competitive environments: Inconsistency: Unwritten rules are open to interpretation, leading to inconsistent application. What one person considers fair might be viewed differently by another, creating confusion and potential conflicts. Lack of Accountability: Without clear, written rules, it's difficult to hold participants accountable. If there's no official standard, enforcing rules becomes subjective, which can lead to disputes and resentment. Unfair Advantage: Those with more experience or knowledge of these unwritten rules might gain an unfair advantage over others, especially newcomers who aren't aware of these informal guidelines. Increased Disputes: Unwritten rules often lead to more disputes because there’s no clear reference point. Disagreements can escalate when participants have different understandings of what’s considered acceptable behavior. Hinders Growth: For a sport or activity to grow and attract new participants, there needs to be clear, transparent guidelines. Relying on unwritten rules can make it difficult for new participants to feel confident and welcome, potentially hindering the growth and development of the sport.
