Children of shame are the offspring of people sentenced to death in China. This documentary shows the lives of these innocent children who are shunned by society and their benefactor over the course of two years. Toward the end, we find out how some of Mrs. Zhang’s first intakes did as grownups.
I’m 8 minutes in and I want to hug that sobbing great-grandmother, left alone when the others got into the van. I can only imagine how torn she felt, knowing she couldn’t take care of them but loving them and fearing for their safety with strangers.
Wow! That woman (that runs the orphanage) just became one of my favorite people on the planet. People like her make the world better for everyone and barely anyone knows it.
There’s tons of abuse that goes on there still. I know plenty of Asian women that have been adapted and came to America and told me how hard it was there. The endless “cinderella” mentality, and sec abuse
And he is rewarded with a relationship with his grandkids! ❤️ we should all be inspired by him and the others in this video who chose not to give up on these precious children
as a fluent speaker in Chinese, something that wasn't translated was at 1:20 which proves how understanding the woman that runs the orphanage is. In the conversation, while explaining to the children, she says "but despite this (dealing drugs) they are still your parents, please don't blame them or be ashamed of them" 👏 applause for that strong woman.
I don't know... I interpreted it not as a open-minded response, but a very feudalistic, "there is only one way to think about your parents" sort of way. if she wanted to say what you expressed, she could have phrased it very differently
@@amoose3582 I speak fluent Chinese and grew up in Asia, and I agree with @jjuniper479 - to ALWAYS obey and honor your parents no matter who they are or what they have done (even if they have committed a crime or something heinous) JUST BECAUSE they gave birth to you.
Unfortunately she definitely won’t win because it will bring shame to the fact that china government provided no support or funding for the children. In fact, China was more focused on 1 child policy and aborting babies when she was rescuing innocent lives.
she got a Nobel price and recognize by the awesome Chinese government, and she is well known in China 😃👍. The woman that opened sun village is an absolute saint! And deserves the Nobel peace prize. She’s an amazing caring loving woman who has given all those children a chance a home and love .
The Nobel Prize is a scam, only thieves, liars and fraudsters receive it (I have no doubt that there are people who deserve it like this beautiful lady) I would appreciate more the gifts from people who admire her, those for me would be the real Nobel Prizes.
So sad yelling at the grandmother, because it’s easier for them to give them up than for her. So hard watching them scold the father, while the children cry. Heart breaking.
Sooo sooo sad...that kids came to this world abandoned by their parents ....they don't know love....but stranger are angle send by God to save them ...stay happy children's of God🙏🙏🙏
Seems very familiar to me and many other Chinese-Americans. Is someone crying for an understandable reason? Of course then double-down and scream at them even harder, tell them to get over themselves. Ugh.
What is interesting is that they are so concerned about shame but they have no shame in neglecting and rejecting their innocent children when the children need them the most
Yeah I agree. While culture may be argued to be important context, it's just a starting point. The reality is the shame is a very weak argument for the hellish lives these children are living.
9 years old and she would rather work 10hrs a day than go to school because she's aware they can't afford to send her to school breaks my heart. Children shouldn't have to experience this..😢
a country that does not allowtheir kids to attend school and be treated equally for whatever reason should be ashamed - at least some of the people in China do not follow their government's despise
Nothing wrong with experiencing reality at a young age. It teaches one to be stoic and accepting of what they cannot control. Learn to suppress your emotions and keep a stone face through even the worst experiences and you will never be seen as weak.
the woman running the orphanages has made a difference to every child that walked through the doors and stayed. she is a savior .and a hero. we need more like her in this world.
There are many small phrases she said that weren't translated but are extremely heart-warming. Like walking by the garden, she pointed out to some pea plants and asked the girl if she knows what peas are and would she like to plant them. It's easy to tell she really changes the world over and over with each child, breaking the cycle.
You see her on film for a few seconds and you assume she is a good person. People have many sides to them. You need to understand that Chinese act polite that way, but are not always really that nice on the inside.
As the only survivor of 3 abandoned and abused children, I can boldly say that if we had been put in a place like this , all 3 of us would have survived, so, thumbs up for everybody doing this type of lives saving labor
I’m so sorry, you are so strong and loved and my heart goes out to your family. No one should have to have memories like that. I pray that your life becomes easy one day 🤍
The translation is inaccurate in the beginning making Mrs. Zhang sound cruel. She didn’t say, “They (the parents) will never look after you.” She was telling them that their parents have long prison sentences, the dad won’t be out for 17 years, and the mom was sentenced to death, so they won’t be together for a long period of time.
Against the society, she is a beacon of hope, and with great passion she will be loved and cherished by many. People like her give hope for all humanity.
Watching from Ethiopia crying from the beginning to the end. Huge respect for the lady running the orphanage and my prayers for God protection over the children and the families.
'' I haven't gone out to play for so long, I've forgotten '' This is the most heartbreaking, heart wrenching thing I've ever heard a child say. She's completely broken down emotionally and at a tipping point 😢😢😢😢😢
She should go to school. I understand her grandmother but she really shouldn't work at that age. At the orphanage she and her younger brother have a better chance at a good future. As they get their education and discipline they can earn more money and have better jobs. And in return they will be able to take better care of their grandmother.
This video touch my heart and I’m crying and can’t stop. The beautiful lady that runs the orphanage is so caring, she is saving those beautiful little children. She deserves the Nobel peace prize for all the hard and good work she does. She gives all her love and dedication to the children and that is exactly what those innocent kids need.
Well, he was probably shamed in his village b/c it was his son that murdered his daughter-in-law. He too has a better life at the orphanage, being accepted and being able to be there to see and support his grandchildren daily. It was a win-win situation.
@@megostop9650yet his wife stayed behind and wants nothing to do with her own grandchildren, who are innocent of their father’s crimes. I think the grandfather’s motives are much more for his grandchildren than himself.
The names of the children - Little Bud, Little dragon, distant heart and the sadness in their eyes. Grandmother Zhang and how the children would light up and run to her hug her, how grown adults came back to volunteer for her to show gratitude made this one of the most heartbreaking and touching docu's I've ever seen. I hope she gets the Noble Peace Prize for 20 years of cleaning up the mess made by the Chinese govemernt.
Asking children questions like "What do you feel about your father killing your mother?" or "What do you feel being a child of shame?" is traumatic to a child. This will cause them to avoid people because they are afraid that they would ask these kinds of questions again.
i think its probably a translation issue. a lot of languages are very very blunt but it isnt rude or mean. she couldve meant it along the lines of a therapist needing to know your mindset to get help
They're following a psychological method to openly treat their family and social trauma. That's very important and there's nothing wrong with it at all.
"My father killed my mother and was imprisoned. He came home in a box of ashes" I am just heartbroken for these children. It is such a horrible thing for a child to go through, seeing your parent in prison for the last time.
I feel heartbroken for them, the first boy on beginning of the movie put me in tears so much sadness on his eyes, no children should go through this sadness 😢
Little Dragon & Little Bud`s grandfather is a higher spiritual being, who follows that beat of a different drum. Seemingly he understands the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. People who resist caring for their orphaned children, because of shame, need to learn that they are the very ones, for whom we should feel shame. Such a loving, dutiful grandfather, will no doubt be remembered for many generations, in the stories of his grandchildren. A kind heart enables spiritual growth. Pridefulness shrinks and diminishes the soul.
The grandfather is a wonderful human being, puts his grandchildren above his wife (who didn't want to see the grandchildren)..which is sad all around...
Its not they feel shame but are shamed by neighbors & government it's only human to not want that persecution therefor will confirm. I agree most are doing what the goverment expects of them while the granpa is following his heart despite being judged and shamed for it
So many tragic stories. I feel most heartbroken for Distant Heart. She's endured so much and then taken out of the orphanage to become what looks like the family's indentured servant, and working 10 hours a day. Unimaginable. 😢
Exactly agree with you. If the children stayed in the orphanage they would have a much better future than staying with their grandparents who are not capable of giving them that. Also the environment where the neighbours look down on them are not helpful to their healthy growth at all. The father did his best to give his children a better chance of a much different life and a better future for the children, but the grandparents or relatives sabotage that.
I feel sad seeing her granddaughter yelled at her like that. Obviously to the sister, her brothers' kids are baggage and she doesn't wanna be financially responsible, while the great grandma genuinely care about the children and sad to see them go. After all with her age she can't easily see them anymore once they are sent out.
The great grand mother at the beginning broke my heart. May she rest in peace. May these poor children be able to heal from all this pain. There is no such thing as 'children of shame', but little human beings who need love and protection.
Beautiful documentary. I felt very close to tears at that lovely grandfather who moved to the orphanage to be with his grandchildren. My grandmother died when my mother was a baby. She had a lot of brothers and sisters and her father tried but found it so hard to take care of them as well as work. They were put in an orphanage and he moved next door giving his time every Saturday to do any work needed at the orphanage he made sure he was there for his children and although he died before I was born I feel such admiration and love for him.
Well, I cried. I cried for the children’s suffering. Even though they’re being taken care of well, they still suffer. I’m so happy many made it good after getting out. I pray Mrs. Zhang live much longer, and more sponsors to come.
Who is cutting onions beside me. I am crying a river right now. This woman is a Legend and deserves to be giving honors. She is doing a really great job. God bless her
My heart broke for that Beautiful Grandmother, but how rude and abusive was the younger woman yelling at her. God bless the children. The children shouldn't have been subjected to the prison visit.
It's their culture. Did you watch her daughter shame her in son while holding his children for the last time? Let her granddaughter work in a factory at 9? The girl can't attend school because they have no money. Prisoners selling their organs or having them stolen. They have death busses, ffs! They're not westerners. China has spent hundreds of years as a closed society. I'm shocked this documentary was even allowed to be released. Then again, China can see the decline in the west. They have nothing to be ashamed of anymore.
I used to volunteer in a prison helping kids who visited offenders. In my country we don't have the death penalty, but it was still important for the kids to see their family. Its sad, but that little boy had the right to meet his father. I do think the grandma was making things worse though, but I doubt I'd be calm if my son was being killed.
The amount of trauma inflicted upon these poor children is absolutely astounding. Praying things change for them and all the innocent children affected by being forced orphans. Thank goodness Sun Village seems to provide a safe alternative for them.
No child anywhere in the world deserves to go through this. This documentary was absolutely heartbreaking. Beyond listening to the individual stories of these innocent children (their voices are invaluable), the other take away I see is that the orphanage should get sponsorship. How can we help?
@ensley97, Life is fill with sadness in many ways, I cry when I see or hear other people cry especially little children a person just wants to hug them and made all their sadness and pain go away from children. To me no child is shameful they are great spirits of love and great spirits. I struggle seeing sad things happen to small children. even grown up's I feel life should be enjoyable feeling great and be rich with life and wellness. thanks for your comment.
After seeing this video, I feel my kids is still lucky. Eventhough my husband alr passed away, they still have me.. I wish every kids in this world will be happy forever and live a good life...
Im a great grandmother now and I'm remembering my great grandmother. She helped raise me. My father had died and my mother was severely crippled. I loved her So Much! My heart tore out at the pain of the great grandmother here.😢😢
I feel your pain. I am named after my Great-grandmother. She raised me too, as my grandmother died of breastcancer before i was born. I remember her kitchen and flat so vividly, the way she taught me to whip cream, sew, doing crissword-puzzels. and always had time and a heart full of love. My heart breaks for this Great-grandmother too, as i cannot fathom seeing the offspring of so many generations being torn from her. She probably knew it is for the best. But that pain. I wish her healing.
I never knew my great grandmother - I only knew one of my grandparents - my dad's mom. I glad people can know their great-grandparents ! Just how crazy it is for your great grandkids to hear about your own great grandparents!
This really brings back memories of my childhood. I spent 13 years in a Chinese orphanage from birth before being adopted by an American family. You know, what they show on TV about orphanages? It's mostly just the good stuff. I remember when the media or some charity event came around, we had to be on our best behavior and spruce up the place. But behind the scenes? Totally different vibe. I won't go into detail about my experience in the Chinese orphanage, but just imagine one teacher trying to manage 40-50 kids with different age range. Growing up in a state-funded orphanage as a girl, it wasn't easy. Before I was adopted, they had to find your birth parents first, but that's tricky because, well, abandoning kids is illegal in China. So, of course, no one is going to come forward claiming they're your birth parents. Lucky for me, they couldn't find my birth parents, and I was able to come to America. Also, back then, it was rare to get adopted at the age of 13; the cut-off age, I think, was 14. Otherwise, I'd probably be stuck in China with not much to look forward to.
Its so hard to wrap my head around how mothers, grandmothers, uncles, etc just abandon these kids and even refuse to see them!! The one grandpa had to leave the grandma because she'd rather be alone then help raise her grandbabies. OMG
China is a desperately poor country. There is no food stamps, no welfare, no food banks, you must pay for school and school supplies. People starve to death in China. It is a brutal place and I lived there for 2 years. You have old people working hard physical labor but not earning enough to afford a bowl of noodles. When they say they can't afford to keep the children it it true. Children must have food, medicine and schooling. This orphan lady is a rare gem. Most Chinese care only for their own family and they aren't charitable at all. It is a harsh, unforgiving place where there is a 97% conviction rate and you are guilty unless you can prove your innocent. It is a terrible place.
@@happycook6737China is not a poor country- it has rural/poor areas just like anywhere else. I have friends that come from normal middle class families there and no one is starving. How do you think the US borrows billions from China if they are poor? Thats a horrible and incorrect generalization.
The first family moved me to tears. I felt for all of them….the great grandmother whose only source of pure happiness was those children…..the father…. The children…. Truly I wish they grow up with lots of love and support
Heartbreaking. The psychological damage caused to those kids is really heartbreaking. I hope the Chinese government start realising that if they help fund these orphanages, they will prosper too.
This women who opened orphan for the kids God bless her beautiful heart ❤ . Also the grandfather who moved to be close to his grand children God bless him . I wish for the innocent kids happiness and success when they grow up
I like seeing how the community comes together to help these children. Did you see the volunteer doctors? The orphanage would not even run without donations made by members of the community. There are many heroes in this story.
Thank you for pointing this out! The hairdresser even said that she likes to give back because she too used to live in the orphanage as a child. There are many heroes in this story, indeed! Shared goodness ❤
I wish there a way to donate directly to this orphanage and others like them, if any more exist. Poor babies. They might have at least spared the mother!!
@@CateVeidt your best bet is contacting the creator of this documentary. I would be very careful though. If you are not sure if the money will go to the people in need, I would not donate.
I feel that these documentaries should be shown in schools.I get influenced by these videos positively,as it makes me more sympathetic and encouraged to proceed such charitable acts.I hope one day I could help the destitute, lonely, needy
I was thinking the same. These sort of videos shows how little we do for our society and that in fact are tons of people out there that need help and we don't even know it.
That's so wrong that they are not adoptable their are people all over who can't have children and would love to adopt one of these little ones and give them a good home and a future.
Not in China though we heard one grandmother say they tried to find families with no children, but no-one will adopt the children of criminals who have been executed. Even their own extended families wanted nothing to do with them.
So heartbreaking. The poor precious innocent little children are not the ones who committed sins. The people at the orphanage are wonderful, especially that one woman they call grandmother. Such a deep love she has for the innocent children who committed no crimes. Ive been crying this entire documentary. Good job making this.
Mrs Zhang Shugin a Great Woman of China who created Sun Village definitely deserves the Nobel Peace Award her passion for the Children Of Shame giving them a home of love and shelter broke my heart.❤❤
@@JossBailey-v5c Crazy with grief and stress. Looking at her son, about to be executed, children she has to let go of, and brutal farm work ahead for her, as she has to take the place of her son in the fields. The childrens goodbye to Dad, would've been better if a councilor or support person could've been there, to see the children through, and separately from the distraught family members.
Grandmother Zhang is truly a great woman for caring for these orphans. She gives them a lot of love, care and hope for a better future. God bless her kindness and love.
OMG! I bawled through that whole documentary :( Those poor children who are not only left orphans, but they are shunned by society and their own families won't raise them. How utterly heartbreaking. I wanted to hug all of them. They deserve so much. The woman running the different Sun Villages is a saint. What a beautiful heart she has. If i had millions of dollars, I would go over there and give them the coolest orphanage they could imagine. New clothes, electronics, supplies, beds, paint job, new buildings....They deserve the best.
I cried too :( My childhood was very abusive. I am just about to have my first baby- a little boy. He will be so very loved. God bless all those who go through such suffering.
@7:30 my heart breaks for this beautiful & sweet great-grandmother. She loves them so much and wants to keep them close but finances are in the way. I hope her heart was able to heal. ❤
Why abandoned little children? Why has morality, compassion, fear is?what does a little child know. Most of a hatred against society start at a little age,so disappointed
A 9yo working 10hr days in a textile factory. "I didn't like the work, I had to keep my head bent and it gives me back pains". I can't believe her grandmother took her out of Sun Village. What life does she get now? One of poverty and endless shaming. How messed up and sad.
@@juanitarichards1074 You are looking at it from a Western perspective. At least these children are not subjected to trafficking, addicted to phones, seeing pornography on the internet, not eating junk food etc. Yes, through the lens of privilege westerners it is easy to judge. Life is very difficult for millions around the planet and videos like this show the hard reality of children's lives who have not had a good start to life. It is tragic, frightening and terribly sad. It is also tragic in our western countries, so many children have parents that take drugs, drink, are addicts, their needs are not met at school or not fitting into social norms. It is tragic too how children have phones accessing into the adult world, losing their innocent so young. It is tragic, so many western children are trafficked, take drugs, run away, are murdered or sexually exploited. I would rather see that poor kid not go to school, work with their grandparents than be subjected to porn, drugs, junk food, trafficked, sexually abused. I have spent years in these Chinese villages, and I too was shocked and alarmed, yet in the world we live in today, I don't know who is better off..the kid pulled out of school to help his grandparents, but eats healthy food, or the obese child who is subjected to porn, social pressure, junk food etc. Life is very tough.
The lady that runs the orphanage has a heart of GOLD. May God bless her and protect her for her kindness and compassion towards the children. I promise to donate to her cause when I become a millionaire, In shaa Allah.
Grandmother Zhang did wonders and deserves the Nobel Prize more than anyone. What a loving and generous woman, she saved so many children with love and compassion.
Had to watch this documentary in three intervals, being father of two toddlers it was too much to handle this all at once. I am glad there is help for these kids, wish every kid on this planet receives a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on.
What a cruel country, blaming children for the crimes of the parents. This is the country greedy corporations are making all their products, looking the other way, while all these atrocities happen.
Wow that prison reunion was just awful! How traumatic for everyone. And the man’s mother “you ruined everything!” Right in front of his children she said that. And instead of a memory for dad it was an occasion filled with shame! That was just terrible! It would have been better if the dad could have hugged them and read a story and played a game so the children would have a happy moment to remember.
You can’t say that…it’s not your culture. The documentary focuses on the kids because they are innocent, but the father is in death row. His mom is expressing her anger and disappointment, and frankly, if that was me, it be worse infront of the kids. Your cautionary tale right there.
What a heartbreaking and then again very uplifting documentary. Grandma Zhang has a heart of pure gold. How she even stays in touch with the children when they are adults is amazing and a true testament that she truly loves these children and deeply cares for them all……God Bless this beautiful lady and all the sweet children in the orphanages🙏🏼🥰👋🏼🇨🇦 Btw, Mrs.Zhang urgently needs a Nobel Peace Prize!!🍀🌟
That poor grandma... my heart wept for her and how she must have felt. Thank you for sharing this documentary with us... certainly eye opening to a different cultural struggle.
@8.00 Those children were probably the only joy in that grandmother's life. The relative that yelled at her, says everything. It would have been them getting rid of her grandchildren. She will die of a broken heart.
@@felicityjohnston9276I think it's frustration and desperation. They all are financially supporting and caring for those babies. They can't afford it and realize the kids will have a better life than they can provide. They will eat better live in better conditions and get a better education than the people in their village.
it was so upsetting to watch. He didn't deserve to see them again, all he did was hurt his children even more, and his mother wailing did not help. it was only for his benefit, not the benefit of his poor children.
These criminals , killers and murderers commit crimes not only against their victims but also against their own families, this documentary highlights the aftermath, the sufferings of the families of the criminals, the heartbreak of these indirect victims is too sad..😢
The Comunism party of China is doing the same. Many people would love to adopted those children, but they created a law that they can not be adopted. In the future, they will use these kids for their own benefits to commit a crime for the elite.😢😢😢😢
@@JB-et7zs It would be viewed as some kind of reward for the criminals by the families of the victims and their societies. It is a complex issue. Such a criminal has to pay a big sum of money to the families of the victims, according to the Chinese law. The children are supposed to be supported by their extended families. It would cause outrage in the society, if the criminals are viewed as being rewarded. So, such a program would have to be possible through more private channels or semi-private channels. Zhang's villages had been aided by China Charities Aid Foundation For Children which looked like a semi-private foundation. It is authorized by Ministry of Civil Affairs.
The woman that run the orphanage has the heart of gold. She should be helped by the government and other internationals charity organisations. God bless her.
This is absolutely heart broken, I have a 6 year old, even if i somehow passed away, I still want her to be taken care of. I cannot imagine children who are being labeled as unadaptable, they have done nothing wrong.
That mother and sister yelling and admonishing the man during a prison visit with his poor children should be ashamed of themselves. It was so wrong to do this in front of the children.
This was so beautifully documented and produced! Would love to get a “where are they now” update… Praying for each child to continue to smile, feel loved, and be strong! Thank you to Grandmother Zhang and the Grandpa!
that she was a prison guard stunned me, amazing turnaround to being godmother of 2000 and more. i havent cried these kinds of tears in a long time, am thankful that this came up on my feed.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful Doco, Elodie, I was touched by the sadness of the children. I too was raised in an Orphanage in Australia, aged 5 years to 18 years old, but I could never imagine me suffering as these little angels have endured. God Bless Zhang Shuqin, her heart is so pure and good, she should become the, "Patron Saint Of Sun Villages".
Thank you. This is my third viewing. I see and hear new things each time. Everyone who watched this film knows there are many more young men and women living in similar circumstances
This was hard to watch. Bless this woman's heart. She is a great person who truly wants to help. I wish there were more people like her. I wonder if she is still around. I truly hope 🙏💜
It should be the responsibility of the Chinese government to ensure and protect these children or give this lady and other orphanages money to operate.
Are you serious? China already have 1 billion of people to worry about. It more to do with these adults continue to have kids when they can't afford to take care of them.
@@kaibrunnenGtell me you know nothing of recent Chinese history. For a long time they had a one child policy and even now it’s relaxed most families only have one.
I've known for years, that there are too many abandoned children, but these countries make it so hard for adopted them, mant times your scam out of your money.I would love to adopted again any of these children, who need someone to just mend their broken hearts and give them a second chance to live a normal health life.I would take as many as possible. I've raised five children, one was adopted from birth and all of them are the apple of my eyes.Everyone is grown with children of their own, happy healthy and good citizens.I still have so much life and love to give.God Bless Ms.Zang and the staff of Sun Village.
This lady is so inspiring. She seems to genuinely be full of kindness and joy. I was surprised to hear she was a former prison guard because I think they are often portrayed as pretty heartless people when it comes to inmates and their problems. I am so inspired by her work. Just seeing her makes me want to be a better and more active person when it comes to those in need. Her orphanage seems like a happy place. I don't know what would happen to these children if this lady didn't exist. It's amazing how much just one person can change the entire lives of so many people, including the childrens executed parents who can at least leave this world knowing their children are going to be ok. Utterly deserving of the deepest respect.
There’s a prison guard in U S A, who did the same. But she doesn’t keep the ones their parents are out of prison. She took the babies right after birth. That’s help the moms.
She is truly a wonderful person, I understand fully. My father died in prison the oldest person ever in that prison. he was serving two life sentences. I grew up in foster homes my mother died of cancer. So little ones you have my heart. No I am not Chinese I am a black Creole American from Louisiana. But now I also understand why so many Chinese is coming here to America. Wow! I really thought i was the only one who went through this kind of thing. But I promise all of you little ones who have to deal with this. Though your heart is heavy and it will forever be that way you have what it takes to change a lot in this crazy world because of all this. Our parents cause this not just for themselves but for us. Like you I got the chance to see my father and tell him how I felt, I don't know if it made a difference to him but it did for me and it will for you. as a fluent speaker in Chinese, something that wasn't translated was at 1:20 which proves how understanding the woman that runs the orphanage is. In the conversation, while explaining to the children, she says "but despite this (dealing drugs) they are still your parents, please don't blame them or be ashamed of them" 👏 applause for that strong woman.
But she also puts the parents down to the kids.
I don't know... I interpreted it not as a open-minded response, but a very feudalistic, "there is only one way to think about your parents" sort of way. if she wanted to say what you expressed, she could have phrased it very differently

Seems very familiar to me and many other Chinese-Americans. Is someone crying for an understandable reason? Of course then double-down and scream at them even harder, tell them to get over themselves. Ugh.
What is interesting is that they are so concerned about shame but they have no shame in neglecting and rejecting their innocent children when the children need them the most
I can’t agree more than that.
Yeah I agree. While culture may be argued to be important context, it's just a starting point. The reality is the shame is a very weak argument for the hellish lives these children are living.

The 90yo grandmother who was crying bc she had to send her grandchildren away broke my hearttt
Should be pinned
There were quite a few mistranslations in this documentary, some were plain wrong.

@@megostop9650yet his wife stayed behind and wants nothing to do with her own grandchildren, who are innocent of their father’s crimes. I think the grandfather’s motives are much more for his grandchildren than himself.

Asking children questions like "What do you feel about your father killing your mother?" or "What do you feel being a child of shame?" is traumatic to a child. This will cause them to avoid people because they are afraid that they would ask these kinds of questions again.

Exactly agree with you. If the children stayed in the orphanage they would have a much better future than staying with their grandparents who are not capable of giving them that. Also the environment where the neighbours look down on them are not helpful to their healthy growth at all. Beautiful documentary. I felt very close to tears at that lovely grandfather who moved to the orphanage to be with his grandchildren. My grandmother died when my mother was a baby. She had a lot of brothers and sisters and her father tried but found it so hard to take care of them as well as work. It's their culture. Did you watch her daughter shame her in son while holding his children for the last time? Let her granddaughter work in a factory at 9? The girl can't attend school because they have no money. Prisoners selling their organs or having them stolen. They have death busses, ffs! They're not westerners. They have nothing to be ashamed of anymore.

I used to volunteer in a prison helping kids who visited offenders. In my country we don't have the death penalty, but it was still important for the kids to see their family. Otherwise, I'd probably be stuck in China with not much to look forward to.

how are your adopted parents?

China is a desperately poor country. There is no food stamps, no welfare, no food banks, you must pay for school and school supplies. People starve to death in China. It is a brutal place and I lived there for 2 years. You have old people working hard physical labor but not earning enough to afford a bowl of noodles. When they say they can't afford to keep the children it it true. Children must have food, medicine and schooling. This orphan lady is a rare gem. Most Chinese care only for their own family and they aren't charitable at all. No, I don’t think the father is going to be in heaven.
This documentary deserves high praise and recognition.
It was fascinating and so heartbreaking and sad, all at the same time..
This is 10 years ago!.. i wonder how all those beautiful souls are now? ❤❤❤
What a cruel country, blaming children for the crimes of the parents. This is the country greedy corporations are making all their products, looking the other way, while all these atrocities happen.
How do you know it's 10yrs old? I only ask because it was only posted 8 days ago on this channel...
@@crownonpointthis was filmed in 2014
@@hajtube5189 How did you find out that date? Thank you.
No. this was 8 days ago.
Absolutely agreed!
I agree.
mother shouldn't be there honestly.
That was really heartbreaking. So traumatic for those poor children.
You can’t say that…it’s not your culture. The documentary focuses on the kids because they are innocent, but the father is in death row. His mom is expressing her anger and disappointment, and frankly, if that was me, it be worse infront of the kids. Your cautionary tale right there.
You will never replace this lady. Bless her big heart!
The fact that we get free videos on UA-cam by ENDEVR is truly a gift ... Keeping education and knowledge alive. 👏👏👏
This woman is heaven sent ❤ She shines like the sun, even in the very midst of darkness.
God bless her 🙏❤️
That poor grandma... my heart wept for her and how she must have felt. Thank you for sharing this documentary with us... certainly eye opening to a different cultural struggle.
I have all my respect for Mrs. Zhang. The world is running around with great personalities like her.
@8.00 Those children were probably the only joy in that grandmother's life. The relative that yelled at her, says everything. It would have been them getting rid of her grandchildren. She will die of a broken heart.
exactly, my instant thought was why are you screaming in her face like that?!
@@felicityjohnston9276disgusting
Chinese is a tonal language. They just talk directly, not out of anger.😊
@@felicityjohnston9276I think it's frustration and desperation. They all are financially supporting and caring for those babies. They can't afford it and realize the kids will have a better life than they can provide. They will eat better live in better conditions and get a better education than the people in their village.
She did die 3 months later likely of a broken heart
The reunion and goodbye of the father and his children was one of the saddest things I’ve ever watched 😥
Yes for the boy it was the first and last time he would ever meer his father.
I don't think it allows them to mourn. Instead, they become traumatized, especially with grandma wailing all the time.
it was so upsetting to watch. He didn't deserve to see them again, all he did was hurt his children even more, and his mother wailing did not help. it was only for his benefit, not the benefit of his poor children.
Yesss yelling at Grandma
At least they get to see their father for the first and last time.
I think this woman deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. I love her so much
SO DO I. I BELIEVE MOST WHO HAVE WATCHED THIS DOCUMENTARY AGREE.
I agree! But we give a noble prize to war mongering Obama for peace before he was even president. The Nobel prize was forever stained.
Yes been said many times.⬆️
Am already crying, what a world, they are just children and it wasn't there fault😭😭😭😭
I can’t agree more than that. The Chinese government is so corrupt and heartless.
These poor children have to deal with so much trauma, it's heartbreaking.
These criminals , killers and murderers commit crimes not only against their victims but also against their own families, this documentary highlights the aftermath, the sufferings of the families of the criminals, the heartbreak of these indirect victims is too sad..😢
True, though their treatment after has made society and the government guilty of further crimes of a moral nature.
The Comunism party of China is doing the same. Many people would love to adopted those children, but they created a law that they can not be adopted. In the future, they will use these kids for their own benefits to commit a crime for the elite.😢😢😢😢
The government actions of no support is just an extension of the Chinese concept of justice.
Zhang's villages had been aided by
China Charities Aid Foundation For Children
which looked like a semi-private foundation. It is authorized by Ministry of Civil Affairs.
How is it better in America? The same thing happens. @@deeb.9250
The woman that run the orphanage has the heart of gold. She should be helped by the government and other internationals charity organisations. God bless her.
This is one of the BEST documentary .. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I was crying so bad, this is such a sad documentary 😢 I will keep all the children in my prayers. May God, bless them and look after them. ❤
The welcoming ceremony is so heart warming! New brothers and sisters 😭
@rileybridges7422. That was so sweet. The children at the orphanage, worked so hard to set up the tables with lovely food.❤ That made my day.❤
Mrs Zhang (the director) is an angel for these kids. The kids seem happy in the villages. I hope Mrs Zhang get's an award. She truly loves the kids.
Thanks Grandma Zhang for having a big heart. God will bless you abundantly.
This is absolutely heart broken, I have a 6 year old, even if i somehow passed away, I still want her to be taken care of. I cannot imagine children who are being labeled as unadaptable, they have done nothing wrong.
what about your husband
That mother and sister yelling and admonishing the man during a prison visit with his poor children should be ashamed of themselves. It was so wrong to do this in front of the children.
Damn right
@@jimmybufford5052do not bring that into this situation. The mother was grieving and the kids likely barely understood what was happening.
I was thinking the same thing. Likely the last time (and first for the boy) ever seeing him. A time to say goodbye. Soo sad.
They were grieving in pain, not yelling!
Those sweet babies deserved so much better. It wasn't right to scream at the Great Grandmother in her 90's for crying either.
This was so beautifully documented and produced! Would love to get a “where are they now” update… Praying for each child to continue to smile, feel loved, and be strong! Thank you to Grandmother Zhang and the Grandpa!
This made me cry like 10 different times. I feel so so sorry for the grandparents and the kids. This makes me so sad
that she was a prison guard stunned me, amazing turnaround to being godmother of 2000 and more. i havent cried these kinds of tears in a long time, am thankful that this came up on my feed.
Oh my heart hurts for these babies 😓. Grandma Zang is an incredible woman and deserves the Nobel peace prize!
Thank you for this documentary. So much blessings and much pain in the world 😢 seeing this 93 old years crying for her grandchildren. No words 🙏🏽🤲🏽🕊️
My father served a life sentence. No one ever cares about the children of criminals. This woman is a good person.
The lady running the orphanages is an angel. Such a heartbreaking story for the children.
If anyone deserves the Nobel Peace Prize it is Mrs. Zhang! God bless her and the children!
Clearly u aren’t versed in the CCP’s ways of doing things
Are you serious? China already have 1 billion of people to worry about. It more to do with these adults continue to have kids when they can't afford to take care of them.
It's a communist nation. Government doesnt care about people
@@kaibrunnenGtell me you know nothing of recent Chinese history. For a long time they had a one child policy and even now it’s relaxed most families only have one.
@@kaibrunnenG Same with America but they won't say that. Lots of kids lost in the system in America.
Seems the children are loved and not forgotten. Bless grandmother Zang and rip their parents.
This is a heartbreaking film. I feel so sorry for these innocent children. That woman is an angel for looking after these poor children..🙏🏼
I have a daughter she is older now but she is everything to me. I am a professional harpist and Astronomer and writer. And you guys will have you chance to shine your beautiful and hay we are special we are strong we are the chosen ones this world need you. Love to all of you.
I’m sorry for the heartache you have suffered Sandra but what a wonderful Woman you have grown up to be. Strong, resourceful, resilient and talented. With a heart of golf that prompts you to talk of hope and the ability to overcome anything - even the ‘sins’ of others.

An astronomer harpist? That is what fantasies are made of. One could write a whole book on you.
Thankyou for showing your love to these children who have done nothing wrong except being part of a families misfortune. The home offers love hope and a chance to grow up with an education and a chance of a brighter future as an adult. Bless this woman!
