    Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
    Fair use
    Additionally, the fair use defense to copyright infringement was codified for the first time in section 107 of the 1976 Act. Fair use was not a novel proposition in 1976, however, as federal courts had been using a common law form of the doctrine since the 1840s (an English version of fair use appeared much earlier). The Act codified this common law doctrine with little modification. Under section 107, the fair use of a copyrighted work is not copyright infringement, even if such use technically violates section 106. While fair use explicitly applies to use of copyrighted work for criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research purposes, the defense is not limited to these areas. The Act gives four factors to be considered to determine whether a particular use is a fair use:
    the purpose and character of the use (commercial or educational, transformative or reproductive);
    the nature of the copyrighted work (fictional or factual, the degree of creativity);
    the amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used; and
    the effect of the use upon the market (or potential market) for the original work.[4]
    The Act was later amended to extend the fair use defense to unpublished works.

    What people refer to as runners today are people who punch rarely. Sugar Ray was throwing 60-70 punches per round while working the ring. Today's runners do not even throw half as that.

      Leonard did the same with Hearns and Hagler...Ray had to get an advantage before a fight.

      @-John-Doe- 2 роки тому +1

      Allowing Ray’s timidity set the precedent for what would become the standard for boxing today,
      Yes, it worked against Duran, and Hearns, but gaming the sport cost it dearly.
      Looking back, Duran’s famous protest went unheard.

      THROWING punches, and LANDING punches are 2 different things.
      LANDING EFFECTIVE PUNCHES is what makes a difference.
      If you want evidence, look at CHAVEZ vs TAYLOR.
      In that fight, Taylor THREW 1000+ punches.
      I doubt if 5 lander per round.
      But Taylor spent a week in hospital afterwards, with serious injuries.

    Duran was way over the hill!! think about it; this 3rd fight was basically a decade later from the previous two.
    little Duran, a blown up Lightweight and two and half years away from the age of 40.
    no other Lightweight has been able to do the things Duran did!!

    • @TheSmithDorian
      @TheSmithDorian 8 років тому +2

      +judaschongo
      "blown up lightweight"?
      Duran was struggling to make the 135 lbs Lightweight limit way back in 1976/7. Jan 1978 was the last time that he was able to do it.
      Since winning the title in 1972 every fight he had that wasn't a title fight he was over the 135 lbs limit. Duran was actually a natural light welterweight that cut down to the 135 lbs when he had to.

    Looked like Duran had lost the fire and had not sleep well the night before. All that hatred was gone after the Barkley fight even his body shows it because he did not put on any muscle like he did in the Barkley fight. And also they tied his gloves way too high for this fight...

  • @EM-ig7ib

    Duran was the greatest lightweight in the History of Boxing....Few will dispute that....Sugar Ray arguably the best Welterweight Ever.....Few will dispute that some will...
    The first fight...Duran punished Leonard...outboxed him...pounded him from inside...Then They used management and money to get Duran in the ring before he could complete his training cycle. The third fight Sugar Ray saw what he did to Davey Moore and waited....and was still leary of signing after the Barkley Fight......I don't care what anybody says...Duran came up in weight...Took the belt away from the best Welterweight in history during his prime......And terrified Sugar Ray into waiting forever and a day to sign this fight.....Duran gets the nod...Incredible feat...

  • @tuesday917
    @tuesday917 7 років тому +14

    Interesting how Leonard waited almost 10 years to make the trilogy fight. IF the 3rd match was immediately after the 2nd , who knows the outcome could have been different. But Sugar Ray did make Duran quit. Nothing changes that.

    • @SpeakingConsciously

      @tuesday917 7 років тому +2

      I believe Duran would have signed a contract to fight Leonard in a heart beat for the 3rd fight and not wait no where near as long as 10 years. In a business sense it clearly worked for Leonard's career. The same can be said when he waited 9-years to give Tommy Hearns a rematch also.

    La diferencia en esta esta tercera pelea es que Duran ya no tenia la misma rapidez para presionar a Leonard permitiéndole a este desarrollar su estilo de pelea que es el de entrar y salir, pero quedó demostrado que esa primera pelea entre ellos en Montreal Canadá marcó la carrera boxisticas de Leonard para siempre al punto que para esta tercera pelea mostró mucho respeto por la pegada de Duran y aún así le rompieron la cara, algo que no pudo hacer ni Hagler ni Hearns

      BS ! In the first fight Leonard though lost a close one he broke Duran's face , it was shown on television when Howard Cosell was interviewing him , Leonard said that though the judges picked him for the victory , that when he fought Hagler he felt that he was going to die , he walked to his training room at the end of the fight and collapsed on the floor , and in his fights with Hearns the first one he hurt Leonard's eye really bad and in the second fight which the judges gave to Leonard , leonard stated that he felt his jaw was broken , stop your jive , you sound delusional, a Duran fan boy ... Leanerd ran all over the place,Duran played catch up. This is their heaviest weight of all their matches. Sugars stamina was greatly enhanced,of over 200+punches landed,Duran face shows No Damage.
    Meanwhile,Duran also threw 200+punches and landed 14,sugar was cut over both eyes and bleeding.
    Everybody misses the referees Rich. Steele's undue influence over the fight;by breaking up the clinches as quick as possible. Therefore,never giving Duran a chance to work leanards body to slow him & gain control. It's a shame,a different referee,would've Allowed Duran and Leonard to mix it up. That would have Given each man their due and
    allowing them both to close out their careers with a sense of honesty,as fans would approve. It would have removed the no mas incident or lessen its impact and Leonards fans would have accepted a win or loss from either one,with no shame attached.

    This had stinker written on it before the opening bell. Big ring. Duran, no longer the catquick, high work rate, explosive combination hitter of the first fight...is now basically a right hand counter puncher. Sugar could have fought this in his sleep. Use the big ring...catch your breath when you need to....Duran couldn't slip like in his younger days so he never attacked..just didn t want to get hit....and he couldn't sucker ray into walking into something. Easiest payday of ray's career.

      Cefcecdfs But why? After Duran upset Barkley earlier in the year (a magnificent performance), he said he WANTED Sugar Ray. This effort was not even close to his production against Barkley. Why? Duran actually seems disinterested as the fight goes on. Why? Did he quit emotionally and kept fighting physically because Ray once again frustrated him with his jab & move style? Leonard gave him a standing target in their first fight in 1980 and then wisely decided to beat Duran with his superior athletic skills in the last 2 fights. Did that style of boxing frustrate Roberto so much that he just didn't have the drive to compete??

    At 33 Leonard was getting his ass handed to him by Terry Norris at welterweight. At 33 Duran was winning the WBA Jr middleweight title against Davey Moore, at 34 going 15 rounds toe - 2 - toe against a prime Hagler, and at 37 winning a war against Iran Barkley at middleweight. There's no real comparison between these 2. Duran early career was filmed in. Black and white ffs.

    • @t74guard78
      @t74guard78 10 місяців тому

      Your right, Duran isn't in the same class as Leonard.
      Fight #1 - Leonard fought Duran's fight and arguably defeated him but didn't.
      Fight #2 - Leonard fought his fight and Duran couldn't handle it and quit.
      Fight #3 - Leonard continued fighting his fight and won again hands down.
      Basically it was like Leonard 2.5 and Duran .5. Looking at the head to head fights, there is no comparison, Leonard is by far the better fighter. Now comparing them against other fighters and not each other is down right stupid. Doesn't matter what or when they did something against other fighters. If you want to do that, Leonard TKO Hearns and beat Hagler. Duran got his ass kicked by both those guys. So even by doing that, Leonard is still the much better fighter no question about it. Not sure what reality your living in but it isn't the same as the rest of us do.

      +CAFU MANZEL Hey Cafu - Look how he was a coward with a guy that stood toe to toe.BUCHANAN At the bell to end the 13th his uncle/ref grabbed that boy with all his might, again this is after the bell. Duran tore him off and with strict determination strutted toward Buchanan and gave The faithful and honorable one a permanent injury , no exaggeration,as he unloaded creating a form of castration as he still pees blood.castration may be the best word. The ring writers. one was insistent that the first 13 were filled with low blows and head butts. Finally, ironically gives his first and only warning to duran about low blows. I cannot take a commentator, who from the beginning commented all praise for this inexperienced man who before this or after fought someone 25-32?
      where was the talk of Duran being a mauler and hugger and Buchanan clearly after being described as crippled or the like kept coming back and at the end at the of 13 gave Duran exactly what he needed to know- that the commentator had been hot air all night. You want to know the truth of duran/buchanan? Duran knew full well that buchanan was a CHAMPION as he was the only one in the stadium that knew his 15th round record I dare anyone to check even heroes of Duran like Lugana . I dare anyone to check his 15th record against anyone. Duran no one mentions that he is the one ready to collapse due to his fight hard, fight fast strategy while Buchanan's is the classic boxer. But no one mentions that Buchanan is a king of the 15th and oh "there was no way that Duran would lose. Look at the tearing from the rope and no one is going to tell me that that shot was not deliberate. IT WAS A DQ OR WORSE on Duran. Why not a suspension for ignoring instructions?? It is deliberate. He showed what he does if he thinks he may lose a fight. He had no shame.
