You're right about the start of the game. I've only played it once, but what you showed here is exactly what happened. Everyone took one look at the board and decided that the only real option was getting more actions.

Ha! Thanks for the affirmation! I hope you give it another go because although the start is scripted it rapidly gets interesting and the high level of interaction means every game is different.

@@UnfussyBoardGames After my first game, I pictured that I would try the key strategy on the second go around. That seems like a great way to amplify final points.

@@LegendaryTactics I discussed the town key strategy in the "Game Session Highlights" video. Take a look and see how that worked out for me :-D looking forward to exploring more Legendary Tactics Strategy Videos on your channel!

@@UnfussyBoardGamesThanks for checking us out. I will indeed get a little glimpse into the future of that potential strategy.

Hey Terry, I just chanced upon your channel when I searched for HT strategy. I agree with many of the things you mentioned, such as how the 4th or 5th player can unlock their third action. I really like the way you present the strategies -- it was concise and easy to follow pictorially. Good job!
I disagree with your view that high Privilege is a dominant strategy (if unchecked). Privilege definitely helps to overtake control (+2 to yourself and -2+1 to the previous city controller) but it does not directly improve the efficiency to claim useful routes, which Action, Bag, and to some extent Book do.
In my opinion, the most dominant strategy (if unchecked) is to claim a bonus marker and either (i) expand a network + bonus marker or (ii) control both ends + bonus marker. This is doable with white privilege, especially for the starting bonus marker positions in the East and South. Gaining 2 VP (controlling a new city or owning both ends) + 1 plus VP (bonus marker) using 4 actions(putting 3 pieces down + Bag) should be the most efficient method to gain points and end the game (if unchecked). Of course, I don't mean this strategy is broken. There's plenty of counterplay by the opponents.
I do not have Tabletopia but I would love to play with your group on either live Zoom or asynchronously. It will be fun to see the outcome of a clash of idea on what strategies are good ;)

i was thinking it might be even more advantage to place a town block in that city instead of the first action upgrade. that way EVERY one that does that upgrade will score you

a strategy I was thinking about last night for the 2-3 player map (it might apply to the 5-[player as well)
Turn 1. place a merchant on the (right) Gottingen road and a worker on the road to Halle. If/When the merchant gets displaced, bring the merchant and 2 workers to the road to Halle, and at the beginning of turn 2, you can claim Halle and upgrade a key, and you still have an action left to place another trader on the road to Gottingen. You're still aggressively going towards Gottingen, but you've upgraded something else while managing to keep your presence there.

Nice one Ryan! I wouldn't want to put any energy into getting an early key though because it doesn't build your engine at all - I focus on one of the book, the money bag or Gottingen. I would try for orange privilege before a key. However, you make a good point as Halle is adjacent and ripe for the taking. Your merchant would almost certainly get pushed as you planned. BTW I tried a key/book strategy in the Hansa Session Highlights video, I would be interested in what you think of that, check it out :-D
