I was born in the late fall of 1978. The Seekers were a first-class act! I Love this Song! This is Real Talent! Judith Durham is very pretty, and very talented! Her green dress is Beautiful! The Seekers are extremely Talented! Awesome Performance! Awesome Recording! Awesome Song! Awesome Video!
I'm glad that I searched out this actual live version. All of the reactors on UA-cam are watching the dubbed version using the studio song. And none of them even realize it. One even commented on how great they sound in concert. How can they not see the strings in the background that aren't playing in the song? Anyway, it's a shame that this live concert footage was dubbed over, because they sounded superb live.
It's somewhat unsettling how film and video can capture and preserve someone in their prime long after they are gone. I do think it's a good thing to capture a unique talent at their best for future generation to enjoy.
No doubt, one of my favorite videos of them because there's a moment where she seems to realize that she just nailed it. She looks so full of fun and joy in that moment!
No-one in the entertainment world has ever left such a legacy of making so many people's lives better and happier by making such beautiful music. From all of us, Seekers, thank you so much. We love you.
Fabulous LIVE performance no lip sync and no tricks just pure talest, I have seen the Seekers live and can attest they sound just like the record! The crowd at their March 12, 1967 performance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl - estimated at over 200,000 people - was immortalised in the Guinness Book of Records the following year as the biggest concert attendance ever in the southern hemisphere. Judith Durham recalls the momentous day: “It was pretty awe-inspiring.
1967 was such an optimistic year- we didn’t know what 1968 had in store for us. I remember going to Expo 67 with my family. What a wonderful summer that was.
I love the live version. It shows Judith’s perfect pitch with the orchestra and the crowd so excited when the here the intro to George girl only to quiet down then they start singing. So much better than the digital version
This is the music I cherish from a time when the days seemed endless and full of joy. How can you not live in the past when music like this filled the air?
The year was 1967 and I was eight years old living in southern California. One simply cannot help looking at the crowd in this video just how well-dressed, just how respectful they are of one another. I don't mean to sound negative but it seems to me, our world has devolved quite a bit, not that it was anywhere near perfect in 1967, but at least people seemed to dress up for the occasion, they brought with them an air of class. Oh . . . what I would give to have witnessed this live performance i person . . .
An awesome event which beautifully captures the tsunami of LOVE given to this unique wonderful singing group by their devoted followers. I remember their songs when they were new at the tender and unresponsive age of 12 but I've rediscovered them in the past 2 years and they are overwhelmingly wonderful. A life enhancing experience if ever there was one. So very sorry to hear of Judith's recent death but we'll always have her in our hearts and so RIP our beautiful girl !
On March 12, 1967 at the Sidney Myer Bowl in Melbourne the Seekers and other groups performed for a crowd that reached 200,000 in a venue that only had seats for about 2, 000. Online info is sketchy, but it still might be the largest concert crowd ever in the Southern Hemisphere. At the time that was 1.7% of Australia's population. In other words if on that day you selected 59 Australians at random, one of them would have been at this concert.
Not sure if the system has broken your comment as the figure is broken across a line end and seems to have a space in it - was the nominal number of seats 2,000 (two thousand)? I. e. only one in a hundred of those there had a seat?
@@G6JPG 2,030 seating capacity is the exact number. Melbourne's population in 1967 was on 2.2 million so you could say 1/11th of its population was there.
2.7 and only 17 likes? This is the best group of the 60s, if not the greatest!!!! This video is one of a kind, for it captures a real time audience like the real thing, not something planned, this will be on my greatest of the 60s collection (eve. Though I was only 7 years old), thanks for the memories!!!!!
This is so much better than the glitzy crap out there now. Just beautiful music, voices and harmonizing. True artists standing on their talent. Even the 60's rockers relied on talent. Now you have Lady Gaga with meat suits and J-lo with so much makeup on it takes hours to apply. Miss these musicians
...and even though the 60's was about counter-culture, many didn't alienate the people before. The New Seekers were all dressed-up, many 60's bands wore suits and ties or dresses. Even up to the 1980's you'll see musicians wear dresses or ties. Today...we don't even have much musicians even dress casual!
Judith Durham was a Great singer and is still singing occasionally. The movie of Georgey Girl should have been at Hoyts or Dendys in Melbourne around that time with Lyn Redgrave and Alan Bates. A Amazing Concert, with 100,000 there and some crew from the HMAS Melbourne I think,on leave from Vietnam. 1967 is awhile ago and a different world.🙂🇦🇺
Wondering if you were thinking of Julia Elizabeth Wells, another great voice, but very different. (Actually, would love to have heard Judith and Julie in duet - now that would have been something!)
Such a lovely woman with a lovely voice, and the harmonies are great. I adore the young woman in the sleeveless top at the start of the video, and I always laugh at the clod who thinks he has to show his girlfriend how binoculars work.
Not sure what you mean by "very current". There are numerous clips of the lonely ram song over the years, several of them live (including those from the final ["50th"] tour), and most of them sound similar (and of course great).
This was their encore song at that concert. It was preceded by a 6 song set, all of which, in audio, was on a YT video I watched a couple weeks ago, but can't seem to find now. What became of that - does anybody know??? It was marvelous! The channel that put it up got audio for all 7, but could only get real-time video of 4 of the 7 songs, showing some stills in motion during the other 3 (which I think were the middle 3). Don't recall what the channel name was. I'm trying to recall the other titles; don't know the order, but I think they included: I'll Never Find Another You Morningtown Ride The Leavin of Liverpool World of Our Own (?) The Carnival Is Over [this was last of the 6, being somewhat their traditional final song of a performance] PS. This is the segment from that full-concert video. Is this the channel that put that up? If so, or if you or anyone reading this knows, could you please supply the link? Fred
It was probably rich963's video of the segment; disappeared because they wanted to release a CD of the 7. The whole concert - audio only, but I'm pretty sure it's the real live (it's certainly mono) - including the Seekers bit starting 1:20:40 in (there are others before them - orchestra, navy band) - is still as I write (2023-4-29) there at ua-cam.com/video/2DMFt8cYeTk/v-deo.html .
@@G6JPG Thanks! I've long since discovered that full concert, and rich963's rich (-;) coverage of all things Seekers-related. Special thanks for posting that link, for all to see.
Sadly, many of those who dub over the studio recordings, fade in and out the audience at the end and beginning, so you can't rely on that. (Not just Seekers - many of Mireille's "live" clips aren't. At least the Seekers _were_ live for those present, which sadly wasn't the case for much of Mimi [though I like her too].)
Judith Durham is heaven singing all her songs!

What. Do. We. Say. To. Them. Fantastic. Jonny d.
RIP... Judith Durham. This is my favorite video of them. They look so happy.
Actually, though older (much!), they looked happy at the 201x 50th anniversary concert I attended.
This is the only post that's really live. The others have the record playing.
The full sound track is available in youtube also. They sang 7 songs in about 20 minutes .ua-cam.com/video/2DMFt8cYeTk/v-deo.html

I read she made those dresses.
This is the music I cherish from a time when the days seemed endless and full of joy. How can you not live in the past when music like this filled the air?
Perfect live vocal performance.
When pop singers could actually sing.

Best version as it live and captures a great time in the 60's
I loved Judith Durham RlP Judith forever ♥️ 1:25
Love this with the live recording. Very impressive.
this is wonderful
Still makes me dance after 55 years
Her voice 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
a lot of nostalgia with these songs

So true... I tried to be this musician but it is difficult... I also wish more harmony to this world

Adele has got a pretty good voice you can’t deny. Her Bond theme gives me goosebumps!
This version is way better!!!
Very pleasant & enjoyable. Thank you!
As good as the studio version is, the live version is just as good.

They WERE one of the greatest singing groups in the 60's. This is LIVE and almost identical to the record.
No, it's a lot different. If you want the record-dubbed version, see ua-cam.com/video/wsIbfYEizLk/v-deo.html
Great song so true 😃💙💙💟💯🤟🤟
The power of Julia’s voice at the end when it’s only her singing the chorus in the outro is sublime

You should experience that power as you watch the last frames of the titular movie. It is exhilarating----for all the RIGHT reasons.

Never understood why Athol Guy pushed Judith off-stage.
Maybe it was meant to be a pat on the back to say well done and he just pushed a bit hard.
Tragically, a young girl was murdered during this performance.
Hey there! Change your outfit! Get rid of those dowdy feathers! Then boys will like you!
RIP Judith Durham.
