This definitely surprised me. I liked it more than I thought! Never would have paid this close attention to a CR-V if it wasn’t for the review.
Appreciate it man!! Thanks for watching!
Really glad to see Honda on the channel. I’ve been a loyal Honda customer for over 20 years. Looking at the Acura MDX and RDX right now. Will you be reviewing any of those?
Thanks! Hopefully I will get to and if they are as good as this CRV I’d be excited to review them!
Nice review! I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Yes, it has simulated shifts. They take the engine out of its most efficient operational range, reducing MPGs. The reason bothhybrids might "drone" is because, obviously, it is more efficient to stay in that range. If people would stop thinking that, somehow, interrupting your acceleration means better acceleration, it wouldn't be necessary.
Nitpick: _Efficiency_ (how much energy is obtained from the same amount of gas) and _economy_ (MPG) are different things. Efficiency applies to the hybrid system, and economy applies to the car. Since you say you are comparing the systems, head-to-head MPG comparison needs to take other things into account. The CR-V is bigger, in all dimensions except rear-seat head room, so the same efficiency gets less MPG. But one other thing is just as important.
Believe it or not, that other thing is wheel size. The CR-V is on 235/60R18 tires, while the RAV4 is on 225/55R17. The extra inch for the wheels makes it harder to change wheel speeds, and adds air drag, This probably accounts for the MPG difference. I say "probably" because there is no direct comparison I can make on the SUVs. But I can for the sedans. The Camry and Accord models both come with two different wheel sizes, and that is the only thing that makes the Camry LE vs. XLE, and Accord Base vs. Touring, EPA ratings different. In the Camry, an extra two inches drops it by 6 MPG, and in the Accord it drops 4 MPG. In an adjusted MPG comparison, they are essentially equal.
Great points, thanks for clarifying all this!
Excellent review
Watching from India ❤️
Appreciate it!! Thanks for watching!
If you had the left instrument panel display in the Audio mode, you can use the scroll wheel to go through the different audio modes and then press on the wheel to select it if you want to switch from SXM, FM, AM, CarPlay, etc. easily.
Ah ok. Thanks that’s a good work around although I like to always see the fuel economy screen.
Nice review! I wonder how this compares with the Ford escape system that's also mechanically interconnected? Probably more reliable atleast.
Thanks Randy! Yes this is similar to Escape system but also simulates gears which is nice because it feels more natural.
Considering CVT's don't last as long as automatic transmissions despite their comfort and MPG advantage, I'll go with the longer lasting car. RAV4 ftw.
They both have cvt style transmissions so should be equally reliable.
You are correct when it comes to their hybrids. But Honda only offers CVT's in all trims where as you can opt for the more reliable option in Toyota trims.@@CarGuy11
They aren't CVTs. They call them "eCVT." Toyota's is "electrically-controlled." A simplified explanation is that it is just a differential that connects one engine and two motors (one of whihc is also connected to the wheels. The Honda is "electrically coupled." Most of the time, there is no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels.
BTW, the CR-V has better reliability ratings (JDPower 82/10 to 81/100, KBB 4.5/5 to 3.8/5).
