@@plumpdy5810 There are several definitions of what a "baritone guitar" is. The most common definition would be a 6 string guitar with a much longer scale length(probably 27" and up) allowing a much lower tuning without putting really thick strings on it. But also, there were instances of 25" classical guitars tuned down to standard A (7 semitones lower than standard E), strung with bigger strings for more tension, these were also called a baritones.
Way too many people are sleeping on this dude! Such an awesome feel and tone, that vibrato is yummie. Seen a few solos on instagram and I always get goosebumps, this one included.
In a similar vein, He Is Legend often uses drop C but with the low string down to G (G-G-C-F-A-D) and they've got some songs where they tune the second string back to an A and drop the first string to an A (A-A-C-F-A-D)
Brilliant, I’m inspired, enthused, and laughing watching you dude, you definitely captured the mood of drop B, love grunge, love Soundgarden. I’m off to chunk out.. ✌️
The tune and solo you played reminded me a lot of Joe Bonamassa's "Ballad of John Henry", I remember him playing this on his Music Man JP live in a music hall. Once in a lifetime experience but you took me back to that memory, thank you. Awesome video, cheers.
Originally I thought you had put up the wrong drop b tuning, but this is absolutely sick. I love the sound of this tuning. I really want to give this a go and maybe try it with the low B going down to A for power chord octaves. Great work man
I learned this tuning from Tool's Prison Sex lol. They also use BEDGBE for Parabol/Parabola. Had a band in the 90s and we used BADGBE for 2 songs. There are many tunings that could be called Soundgarden tunings lmao, they used the most I've seen. My favorite from them is CGDGBE, which was used for Mailman and Limo Wreck. CGCGGE was used for Burden In My Hand and is a lot of fun to mess with.
Mailman and Limo Wreck are some of my favorite tracks off Superunknown. Also 4th of July, Fresh Tendrils, Head Down.... Hell, the WHOLE damn album is a literal masterpiece, and IMO the best produced/sounding record of the 90's. They are also my favorite band of ALL TIME, and I'm miss Chris like a brother.....
This is awesome! And I'm really not easy to impress anymore these days. You hit the sweet spot between beautiful melodic chords and solos as well as fat riffing here. Will definitely try that tuning myself. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for stirring up some inspiration in ME. I’ve been playing for over 20 years and messed with zillions of different tunings, but I’ve never come across this one or tried it. It sounds just so damn juicy and thick, I love it. Plus your lead is pretty good man. Killer melodic solos there. You’re the type of player I would collaborate with in a heartbeat and I don’t normally collab with other guitar players
The doom band Pentagram used this tuning, and I encountered that quite a lot of their fans actually misunderstand "drop B" to be the usual 'modern' meaning of 'drop X' tunings, which would in this case be C# standard with the lowest string detuned a whole step. Victor Griffin, the guitar player, actually used standard string guages (probably because they started in the 70s), just learned to play the floppy downtuned string lightly so it didn't go out of tune from the pick attack.
Victor is a friend of mine. I bought a Les Paul from him in 2011 and it came in that tuning (actually everything was a half step lower so drop Bb). He's actually got a light touch. Killer player.
Actually if I’m not mistaken, he tuned all the strings down by one semitone, then the bottom string another five semitones, so the tuning would be Bb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb, at least that’s what I’ve seen from the Does it Doom? tuning guide
If you're talking about Drop C#/"the real" Drop B go take a listen to Alice in Chains or Kings X! Jerry Cantrell and Ty Tabor are RIFF LORDS in those tunings brother.
The last riff kinda sounds like I'm Broken by Pantera 😁 Man, your playing is so good. Instantly made me check out this tuning, Soundgarden and your channel
Fantastic playing, my friend! It's articulate, nuanced and definitely melodic! Passionately so! And having great tone doesn't hurt, either! Liked and subbed! Cheers!
Listen to the band Chavez. They used low B instead of low E, and later even low C instead of low E. But they were way more alternative and a little heavy. This video is a great example of more straightforward rock in this tuning, it's really cool!
honestly, I often do not dig guitar vids... especially when they're rock-based. but I really love what you're doing here. & your music is damn good!! bravo!! & thanks much for the heads-up on drop B.
You got my sub just for that solo! Killer stuff man! I've always loved playing my Bariton telecaster, but I've never tried this tuning on my standard tuning guitars.
Hol up..... So I just got punted into this video from my auto play list and I've never watched a single video you've done before. I'm a massive metal guy and I also love abmient cleans/edge of breakup and rock/blue stuff.... I've never heard drop B used in such a way. I love the opening that you played in this video and I'm totally stealing your licks.... You're awesome, subscribed (after 48 seconds no less, longer than I've lasted with the Mrs....)
Such a beautiful melodic solo at 6:55. Only to be knocked out be the HEAVY AS F riff at 7:35. I really like this tuning, I heard it first on Cave In - Big Riff and it was so heavy, yet melodic at the same time. Basically best from both worlds. Good job, your playing is great and the tone is perfect!
Fellow sinistra letting you know your feel is impeccable. I have only dabbled in alternate tunings, but I like how it allows you to run two moods at the same time, with the interplay between the low and high strings.
I have a Hipshot Xtender with the Double Stop lever so I can go from Standard to Drop D to Soundgarden tuning with a flick of a switch. That and the Digitech Drop Pedal were the best pieces of gear I've ever bought for my guitar. Awesome vid, and I'm glad to see other people using the tuning. Subbed, my guy.
Great content my man. Bravo! I've been an alternate tuning enthusiast since the 90's. Soundgarden was an obviously heavy influence. I was lucky enough to see them live multiple times and actually bump elbows with Chris and Kim back in '92.
This guy....just casually dropping one of the best solos I've ever heard, with great tone and wicked vibrato. Ya'll go on ahead, I'm still processing.
Same 😮
Facts
Have a listen to Andy Timmons if you enjoyed that...sounded like something off Resolution
He reminded me of Guthrie Govan with that solo. That's a great compliment :)
This is the best trick I’ve seen in a while, with some epic application. I would listen to that album… if a badass singer still exists.
One of the few occasions the algorithm does you proud - fantastic!
the phrasing and feel of your solos is incredible, just such a great sense of the sonic space
Damn,Mark Zuckerberg can rip!

With facial expressions too
It’s that Sweet Baby Ray’s
No need to insult Joey.
😂😂😂
It's basically a 7-string guitar without the 6th string.
Thats a baritone!
@@plumpdy5810A baritone would be a 7 string without the 1st string.
@@Pink_Maggit Technically still not quite right since a baritone normally uses F# instead of G
Basically a 6 string with e tuned down to b

Thanks a ton!❤
This sounds absolutely fantastic!!
Dude, you gotta drop whole record with this tuning ❤
Killer playing man. And a useful exploration of this tuning!
Wow brother you’re phenomenal! You got a hell of a sound.
The last sonng reminded I'm Broken - Pantera
Been playing for 10 years and my man, you are fucking amazing, mad respect and I'm so glad I found this channel.
Mastodon uses that tuning a lot, but everything whole step down from this (A-G-C-F-A-D), for example the song "Curl Of The Burl".
Yo, that song is crazy! Crazy good! Cool!
In a similar vein, He Is Legend often uses drop C but with the low string down to G (G-G-C-F-A-D) and they've got some songs where they tune the second string back to an A and drop the first string to an A (A-A-C-F-A-D)
Was bout to say this is like the mastodon tuning
I think Mutoid Man does the same thing
Mother puncher
“BAD GaBE” tunings 😊 great post. Love the voicings, and of course the RIFFS! Nice playing
You've earned my subscription in the first 90 seconds with that solo! Bravo!!!!
No other video on a different topic has sold me a Course like this one... smooth brother, smooth!
Yep... He did that. Thank you for popping into my suggested vids!
That solo was so much smooth..
Your solo on the yellow telecaster was great! Love the tone as well.
Dude this video and your playing is so good I got out of bed at 2am retuned my guitar and started playing around with it and I absolutely love it!!!!
excellent video even better playing. Beautiful.

Love your tone and style, man.
Huge sound garden fan - loved this! Would love to hear more grunge and heavy stuff from you!
You can check out my band, which sounds really close. It’s called Shady Belle, you can find it on all streaming platforms.😊
Some really nice playing in this video - well done

Very inspiring your recommendation to use drop B. You also play beautifully. I'm following you. Greetings from Mexico.
