- How to go over a thick seam when using hemming with a coverstich.
The issues is when you are hemming you are on 2 or 3 layers and you come upon a seam, that is either serged or sewn, it can be between, 4 to 6 or more layers of fabric then the 2 or 3 you started at. Depending on how the seam was sewn and finished.
You need to make a hump jumper the added thickness of the seam.
In this video, I did a double fold hem, and used a sewing machine to do a sewn then pressed the seam allowances to one side a topstitched the seam, so the double folded hem area is 3 layers and the top stitched seam is 9 layers.
I made a hump jumper out of the same fabric 6 layers thick to put under the presser foot to even out the foot when going over the thick seam.
You have no idea how much your tip has transformed my coverstitching results. I cannot thank you enough.
Thankyou. This was the most helpful tip I’ve found for this annoying problem.
This is just what I needed to know. Thanks for making this video.
Excellent solution!
Love this hint! Thank you!
This is great! I've been trying to figure this problem out for awhile! Now I don't have to settle for "wonky" stitching. Thank you!!!
