I enjoy both too. As well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and True Blood. I personally don't have a favorite because they're all different and unique in their approach as well as actual production. I've watched all of them a ridiculously embarrassing amount of times and will continue to do so.
It may have been better if you explained the vampire composition for TVD the way you did for the Twilight vampires, but still a fun little video that I'm happy to have stumbled on. Thanks.
I will point out that while Elena is certainly the female lead in TVD, she is not the main character. It's stated so in the title and the intro from Stefan, "I am a vampire, and this is my story."
Since you haven't read the TVD books - the vampires did have extra-crazy abilities in some cases. The show started out implementing a couple, but that faded quickly, which I think was a good choice for the intended audience. When I say the show is Very loosely based on the books I do mean very in the most extreme sense.
