In doing my genealogy, I’ve connected with a third cousin through Ancestry, and after googling a second cousin once removed, I was finally able to email him, and we spoke for over an hour on the phone! That has been some of the most satisfying stuff to happen after starting my research, and that’s saying something since I’ve been included on an Ancestry commercial.

I know the feeling. I've managed to track down a 1st cousin a couple times removed (his grandpa being my 2x great grandpa) but I'm not sure what to say.
It's cool to find famous people in your tree too. Turns out my 3rd cousin 1x removed is a baron who was a famous barrister/ Master of the Rolls for a decade.

Steve I had to go look this up for you. Can't have folks prone to depression thinking they're alone. “I'm saying this is the South. And we're proud of our crazy people. We don't hide them up in the attic. We bring 'em right down to the living room and show 'em off. See, Phyllis, no one in the South ever asks if you have crazy people in your family. They just ask what side they're on." Dixie Carter.

@@sharontabor7718 In 1901, my great-great-grandmother Mina Carson died from appendicitis (only aged 31). After a year, her husband Julius couldn’t handle the five children anymore. So, he sent the three eldest girls to live with two of Mina’s siblings, took the youngest with him when he moved hundreds of miles away downstate, and imo worst of all put his only boy into a Chicago orphanage. I would be more understanding if he had not taken the youngest with him-he obviously felt he could handle her, but not his son, too?

@nohandle62 Human progress is never an evenly stepped advance. While you most likely have a much clearer understanding now of the characteristics of your depression - and whether there are any possible genetic contributions - your parent has not been able to move beyond the old diagnoses and paradigms of the past. I hope very much that you've found peace in your own journey. Your words here have a sense of courage and calm acceptance.🌌

Who could blame him. Most people don’t like being accosted on the streets and being a known person makes those forced interactions awkward and cringe. You also don’t know who is walking up to you. I once inadvertently bumped into Diane Keaton in Palm Springs as she came out of a shop with a large framed painting. It lasted 2 seconds, we both said “sorry” and that was that. I doubt she would have appreciated me going omg it’s Diane Keaton. I did btw, do a double take 😂
