  • What an amazing spot we came across to close out our trip to Bella Coola. We decided to stay here for a couple of days to do some exploring and we are so glad we did. Beautiful slide show at the end showcasing the stunning scenery. Thanks to all those who told shared this spot with us, from the BC4Runner, BCToyota4x4 and 4WDABC- greatly appreciated!! Hope you all enjoy.
Located on the Homathko River Tatlayoko Lake is positioned just upstream of the entrance of Homathko series of canyons on route to the sea at the head of Bute Inlet. The community of Tatlayoko Lake is located at the northern end of the lake.
Tatlayoko Lake’s crystal-clear waters are surrounded by craggy peaks eager for exploration (landwithoutlimits.com/places/... )
BTW - noticing people are watching only half the video - to see Tatlayoko at its best, you need to watch more - incredible shots you'd miss if you don't watch the whole video!!!

Indeed - we loved that spot - had hopes of returning last summer, but time just seemed to get away from us. Very possible trip for next year though!!!! We did see a few people out on boats, was wondering if the fishing was any good - thanks for confirming!!!

Thanks for the video! I ran across it via a link in a post on 4WD association of BC Facebook page. My family and I camped at that same community campsite in 2021. The scenery is so impressive. We ended up travelling from there through to Chilko Lake on a not-well-used little road. I saw your 1, 2 and 3 videos of the trip to Bella Coola and I am guessing I am one of the few viewers who has been up through Mud Lakes area and over to Poison Mtn. and back down the Yalakom (although that was in the '80.) We didn't go up Poison Mtn. though as it was only a day trip from Lillooet.
Question: did you end up getting through from Poison Mtn, to Dog Creek/Highway 20 or did you have to go up Highway 97? (I couldn't find part 4 of the trip video)
Thanks again for the videos! I look forward to checking out more of them.
PS - wow, you are brave taking a trailer to some of those places. We travel in a 4WD Westfalia and I thought about having an off-road style trailer but would be scared going up little roads where I didn't know if there was going to be a place to turn around or if I might need to back down some scary terrain.

Hey there eddbeeinnv - our initial route took us almost all the way through to Bella Coola via FSR and dirt. Unfortunately, we had to re-route due to deadfall. Seeing as it was just the 2 of us, we didn’t want to spend unknown amount of days clearing the track. We ended up doubling back, and hitting the “highway” cutting back in Pavillion. Eventually we got back onto the route we had originally planned. Once there, we went on dirt all the way to Lees Corner (just past Hanceville) where we turned onto Hwy 20. We had to exit dirt at that point due to the indigenous locals closing access (Covid). We are planning another trip now that the Covid issue is dealt with, following our originally planned route - possibly summer of 2024!
Travelling with the trailer does pose some challenges, but it’s so worth it!! Nothing like pulling up to a site, setting up, and then being free to explore!! The Tatlayoko Lake video is a perfect example of that - we spent a couple days there - just amazing!!! Only drawback to having the trailer - well 2 actually, using considerably more fuel, and yes - backing out of tight roads!! You get really good, really fast and backing up lol!!!
      Thanks for watching!! Greatly appreciated!

Good vid, so many great spots out west, and she can get windy in some of those valleys eh? I think the locals pronounce it ‘Tatlako’. Keep up the vids, I enjoy them.

Thank you very much!!! Yup, when the wind funnels down those valleys - it can be a bit blustery for sure. Can you tell we had a bit of an issue with the pronunciation lol.... "A" for effort I hope...

Very helpful video, thank you! A few newbie questions: why did you remove some pressure from you tires? How did you put it back later when you got on the paved highway? And finally: would you recommend doing this in a 28-foot camper?

    • @RocknOverlanding
      @RocknOverlanding  2 роки тому +1

Hello Bruce. As to why we air down our tires, there are multiple reasons. Ride comfort, additional traction, reducing stress on suspension components just to name a few. In order to air the tires back up, we've installed an on-board air compressor. A very worthwhile investment!!! There are numerous brands on the market - but I would highly recommend researching and finding a suitable one for your needs.
Tatlayoko Lake with a camper, not a problem at all. Most of the "roads" in the cariboo are maintained impeccably well. Keeping that in mind though, once you begin to venture off the "main" roads - you would definitely run into issues being that large.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
      Thanks
