- The day I get to head north is always a good day. If I am already "north", getting to head even further is a treat. Haida Gwaii was the last official plan of the season, so heading up the cassiar for some late season fun was a no brainer. I absolutely love the Cassiar Highway, but I haven't actually gotten to explore it much, because I am usually just passing through on route north. This season I am able to really slow down and enjoy some of the adventures off of the highway. This entire route, from BC to Yukon is one of my favourites because start to finish it does not have cell phone reception, it is the ultimate release. In my case, that makes work a bit more of a challenge, but now having the starlink, I am able to stay in these locations basically until I am out of supplies.
The Skeena river valley, between Terrace and Prince Rupert is so beautiful, I think it is possibly one of the most under rated drives in BC. Most folks are just commuting from one town to the next, but if you take the time to really absorb the environment around you, it is truly spectacular. Turning in Terrace will take you into the Nass Valley, another frequently visited location on Destination Adventure, but one that I will never grow tired of. The lava beds of the Nass are a sad piece of history, but have left behind some really spectacular views. Beautiful blue rivers and lakes, appear and disappear as the water works its way towards the ocean. This time of year, with the fall colours, it is hard to make it very far without having to stop to take in another beautiful landscape.
Once you get to the Cassiar highway, make sure you know your route because supplies are limited. There are only a few places to get fuel, and only one place for groceries. Passing such a large area, with no access to service and limited supplies, may scare some of the travelers to the Alaska Highway, but for me there is no better route. Plus, if you have a boat, the fishing is fantastic.
As a traveler and a fisherman, the opportunity to get into a species I don't have access to back home is a real treat, and for me Pike fishing is the best. I have only been able to try a few times to catch a pike, but a couple of those days have been the best fishing days ever for me. Pike are aggressive feeders, so if you can find the right location the fishing can be very productive. It is hard to fly fish for Pike, because they have such sharp teeth, you have to use a piece of cable at the end of your line. That, plus a heavy fly, makes casting a real challenge and I am certainly no pro at it. I swing that heavy fly back and forth, until finally i get enough momentum to lob it out there twenty or thirty feet, but thats all it takes. I was on the water for about three hours all toll, and much of the time was taken up with filming, but still managed to get into a dozen fish.
These fish can get really big, and that can be so exciting, but for me it is just exciting to have such a productive and successful day. Pike is actually very good to eat, but they can be a challenge to fillet because of the bones. If my freezer wasn't full of salmon, I would have kept a pike, but this time was just for fun, and was it ever fun.

Alas, I have but a single thumbs up to give. Thank you Sir Dustin!
Mate! Your face and laughs 😂, each time you lifted a Pike out, they were getting bigger and bigger - You've found your lucky fly there - keep a hold of that one! Perhaps it's a good thing that camp was abandoned....Maybe that's also why the camp was located there in the first place 😉
And rainy days, absolutely agree - they bring the landscape alive in a completely different way, just showing a different mood + it's helping top up the feed to the Pee-Tree too ;0)
Loving the "No Plan" Plan so far! 😊
The 'abandoned resort' was owned by friends of ours for years. They moved up to BC from Wisconsin and built much of what is there now. But, due to some dishonest people having taken advantage of their trust, they ended up losing money and were never able to recoup their costs. I believe it was then sold to an immigrant family who tried to run it as a resort, but failed and it went into receivership. The last info I had was that it was then bought by a group of hunters, but that may not be correct. In the last few years there has not been much action there. Funnily enough, we stored an old camper there with our friends and weren't able to retrieve it before they sold, so as far as I know our camper may still be there!
Thanks for posting the back story of that resort. Really unfortunate that the original owners lost money on it.
In the 4th quarter of life and want to thank you for a great channel. I've enjoyed every tid-bit of your work. First, you've got to be likeable to have a successful gig. A close second is your production, editing and choice of content. I enjoy the choices you have in music. All great choices. I can't fathom how you manage to maintain your energy level while not only navigating the land, but keeping focused on the direction of your channel. You are multi-talented. Genius could be used to describe how you've developed this channel.
I'll be a fan for as long as you continue to roam. My only regret is not having discovered these places myself.
Thanks again. You are dangerous, crazy, comical and a good soul. Congrats to your family from raising a solid man and ambassador of your great country. Continued success!!!
Wow, amazing video work. Great editing and showing the amazing natural beauty of the area.
Exhilarating and beautiful ariel shots. I grew up on the West Coast of Canada, North shore of Vancouver, BC. Like a lot us growing up there we would take the beauty around us for granted. Dustin takes it to a whole new level. Surpassing National Geographic. He is a camera man, screen writer, editor, producer, special effects supervisor, special tips advisor, comedian, actor, thrill seeker and a great mechanic. I think he is up for a academy award for best Canadian content documentary series. Your Canada's National treasure. You continue to wow us in everyone of your series. Congratulations Dustin. Todays video is one of my favorites. You take us away from the rest of the world and into your magical world. Thank you so much Dustin. This made my day. Cheers.
He wants fish to eat, catches nothing, wants to catch and release and catches one monster after another. That just feels like a life lesson somehow. Awesome video!
Hey come on, I have a tiny freezer still full of salmon. Lol. Otherwise I woulda bonked one.
Of course! I forgot that you are slaying the fish without video recording! Forgive my short sightedness! ;) Still an awesome video! Your work gets better and better! @@Destination_Adventure
better to catch pike then to eat them.
Lots of bones
@@2mnxffrddfghjbbvcdfh6644bcddcvthere's ways of cutting a filet without bones.
That is true! I was just giving him a good natured hard time! @@2mnxffrddfghjbbvcdfh6644bcddcv
I simply love hearing your choices of music, as well as the stunning scenery. Thanks Dustin
Thank you Dustin for reminding us in the north just how stunningly beautiful this area is.
Wake up every Saturday morning the last few years just to watch you Dustin!!! Your awesome and deserve much more credit than this shit UA-cam algorithm gives you
Great Channel and content.

Wow I couldn’t be more different. It’s summer here on Kangaroo Island off the coast of Australia……still love watching this content though. Stay warm 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your awesome view of the world! I am a 47 year old mom that adores you and your joy of life! Thank you so much and keep up the good life!!❤️☀️
Another epic adventure! That water and fall colours are astounding, the peeing tree was very cool to see. Northern BC is stunning, and the fish are even pretty colours. Thank you for taking us along and already looking forward to the next one.
This is beautiful!! As a former mountain hiker now disabled, I enjoy and dream vicariously through your vlogs.
I enjoy your adventures because these are places that a lot of us will never get to see except in your view. So thank you.
I absolutely love your channel Dustin. I am an Aussie and have visited both Canada and Alaska. If I could live anywhere else in the world, other than Australia, it would be Canada for sure. 🇦🇺🇨🇦
Alaska IS Canada. Lol Silly Americans ;) It's like if NZ purchased Tasmania from Indonesia ... ya know? Hahaha
@@mrmj2397alaska is not Canada. You actually have rights and freedom in Alaska! Robin Williams said it best. Canada is like a loft apartment above a really good party. I will say that Canada does have some of the nicest people and some of the most beautiful scenery.
Thank you very much. 😊
@@mwestie12 oh! I can't believe I almost forgot, been goin' a lil heavy on the maple syrup these days.
Canada does have rights and freedoms, we literally have a charter of rights and freedoms. It's called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms! Same thing as the Constitution, just a lil Canada Easter egg for ya. Have a good one eh!
@@mrmj2397 yeah that's why your government shutdown a bunch of bank accounts that belonged to protesters. All because of a difference in opinion. Can you please explain how that equals freedom? So please go and try to have a different opinion than Trudeau and tell me how well that freedom works out for you.
Dustin, another wonderful story we're blessed to have you share with us all. THANK YOU....again!
So happy to see the subscribers grow with every new video! Everyone who loves and respects the outdoors should be watching your content - you are a true steward of the land. Keep up the great work Dustin! Sending good vibes from Northern Maine.
I really appreciate that, thank you. It is so nice to see the channel growing. 😊
Just can’t get enough of your adventures, Canada is so beautiful and rugged. I know winter is starting to move in and maintaining the truck and boat are a must but can’t wait for what lies ahead for next year, thank you!
🍻
Thank you so much for doing what you do. The amount of time and effort that you put into taking us to places we would never get to see and enjoy is amazing. I consider you to be an explorer, and not an adventurer. Keep up the great work and keep on showing us places that get to appreciate because of your hard work.
@Destination_Adventure- hopefully the surprise is another amazing video. Maybe another one from Oregon. I drive past the studebaker In the tree several times a year and that video with your grandfather was amazing. You definitely know how to tell a story. The best channel on UA-cam.
Absolutely Dustin. This ol guy just about giggles when he sees your videos pop up. Your execution of filming, music and timelines are world class. Thankyou again for such a genuine ride of beauty and exuberance shown only by you. I really want to meet you one day. Dont know where or when. But truly is on my bucket list. Keep up this outstanding talent you have and i as many groan a bit realizing the walk backs and rewalk backs during the course of a day for you. Thankyou again so much. Its been a pleasure since the beginning watching. Cheers
Haha as soon as you started to pull over I shouted “the peeing tree”. More memories of home.
You put a lot work into your channel that I don’t think people understand. Placing all your drive by shots and drone follow footage is just amazing all by yourself
I appreciate that, thank you.
As usual your show sets a high bar. Cinematography and shot choices are outstanding. The spirit of Dick Proenneke is alive and well inside Destination Adventure. Keep it up!!
This new rig is so awesome!! I love that it was your dads truck and that its a retro camper. And my favourite part is the 12v cummins. Awesome build!!
Wow your videos are spectacular You've shown me a side of BC that I've never seen
I've lived here 40 years Thanks eh!
I love traveling with Dustin!!!! Don’t even have to leave my couch!! 🍿 😊😊😊
Thank You, I live in Washington and the Raw Beauty of the mountains and lakes up there is just stunning, I used to fish up at Tenkiller lake 20+ years ago and it was Fabulous, Love your adventures!
Hay Dustin every time I see your video it makes me want to pack up my stuff and get lost in the place you go! It’s amazing on how beautiful and peaceful the world can be. Keep up the amazing work 👍
Watching your videos is never a waste of time Dustin. Your ability to get beautiful footage and create the pace of the videos is a skill. I am surprised that the Canadian television industry has not offered you a deal. It’s people like you that make UA-cam a great platform. Stay safe out there.
Thank you 😊
@@Destination_Adventure Honestly! You remember Gold Trail and Ghost Towns. It was a simple show but 35 years later people still love that show. You have the ability to do a show that is syndicated nationally and internationally of the BC wilderness. Your videos are amazing and it would be a big hit on TV. Maybe Bill Barlee's station in Kelowna might be interested in doing a series with you. ALSO, Could you do all of a big favour and interview the former co-host of Ghost Trails and Ghost towns before he passes? I think it would be an amazing video of you talking to him about his show and all the locations they talked about. Ask him what it was like doing the show with Bill. You could also ask him all sorts of questions about the show. NOW, here is the fun part. Halfway through the video of you interviewing Mike Roberts about his life and show. He starts to interview you about your UA-cam series and your background. It would be a blast. The fans would get a huge kick out of it and it would cost nothing to produce. He would be doing a young and talented guy a favour and the fans could see Mike Roberts again. It would truly be an outstanding video for the archives.
We're sooo happy for your fabulous day of fishing, Dustin!! You deserved every one of those pike! ❤
Dustin, It's a joy to watch your videos. You bring much light, happiness and beauty to a mad world.
Many thanks, brother!
And again much appreciate you and all the trips I have done with you over the years, I turned 81 this fall and hope to hit 100 like the
Ptree gentleman, God Bless him and you.P
I can't say it enough - your drone footage is the absolute best, I love it! And I love you and your adventures! That was some great fishing too ............Great job once again 🥰
"Why stay on the pavement when you don't have to." Love it. So happy to see you back on the road. I have to rewatch this video on a big screen - breathtaking shots!
Oh my goodness. Dustin is the man.
It's not like watching UA-cam. It's like going to the cinema.
Fall is my favorite season. It looks wonderful up there. "Dustin the Fishing Machine". Lol
You never stop to astound me. Your photography and commentary are so impressive. I love your channel 😊❤
Thanks, those colours of the lakes and rivers are stunning, our province truly has some spectacular areas and history.
It's like you're driving through a Bob Ross painting. Gorgeous scenery! I only wish I could make it up there in winter. I bet it's breathtaking.
This one is a favorite for me! Thank you for sharing the beauty and wonder of the North. It moves my heart to be able to see Mother Nature. I appreciate your work and that you share it with us.

Just recently found this channel and I really really appreciate it. I cant image how much time and effort you put in to your shots, it's truly amazing. Cheers from Sweden. Thank you!
i have hunted and fished the cassiar for over 20 years, and i get excited every time you make another video up there, what an amazing area, and you do it proud.
Loved seeing you get so excited, probably not as much as you loved catching them fish.
Your happiness after catching that big pike was just awesome. And then to remember to quickly toss him back. Great stuff.
Are you kidding me!!
Man, your work is the exact reason why our family wants to come back to Canada. You constantly tug our heart strings Dustin 👌🏻
Thank you for your fun, beautiful and peaceful videos. With the insanity going on I love this. Thank you.
I have been to the Yukon 8 times in 11 years. This year I didn’t make it. Your videos just are the best buddy. Takes me there:)
Totally Awesome Dustin, and those pikes, INCREDIBLE!!! Thanks again for a Grand Adventure and such beautiful videos. You Rock this Dustin, looking forward to your next destination Adventure!!!
WOW, your videos just keep getting better and better... One day of continuously catching fish erases very day of no luck at all, your excitement catching those pike got me excited as well... Another winner video in a long series of winners.
It may take some time, but your channel has the potential to see 1,000,000 subscribers. Some of the best videography on UA-cam.
Stay well. Stay happy. Peace.
That last Pike was a beast.. and on a 6wt... HOLY ****.. Good on you Dustin: Master Fisherman indeed.
@Destination_Adventure- Like hell you do, SPAMMER
Amazing! We have adopted the "no plan, plan" as we begin our trek southwest for the winter. 😊
Hi Dustin.... all i can say is WOW WOW WOW😉
Thanks Justin the videos are amazing the photography is outstanding what a nice way for me to see how beautiful our province is.
The Cassiar Highway is a MUST for anyone wanting to wild and rustic northern BC and into the Yukon! I did the drive back in 2007 and was completely blown away by how beautiful this road was!
I was born in Kitimat. Grew up in Kitimat Terrace. Living in Prince George now. My father used to take me to that tree before road trips. I thought it was so cool. We’d stop at the little convenience store that used to be there and get ice cream. Love the videos. Cool seeing you explore so close to home. Brings back great memories.
That had to be a hoot and a half fishing those Pike. It was fun watching you bring them in, admiring them and then releasing them.
Always look forward to your videos, you have fantastic drone shots, fishing looked amazing , so much fun , beautiful country, for sure , thank you for being you !
You are amazing. Your pure joy on everything you do is ai refreshing!❤ I was on a cruise to Alaska in September, and it gets in your blood...I did not want to go home.
What a great trip. All those were great pike! Great video Dustin, as usual!❤
Dustin is living all of our dreams! Thank you for taking us with!
Top of the morning from the still dark Okanagan sir. Thanks once more for the visual feast of the fall colors and the memories. We first drove the Cassiar in '87 when it was mostly gravel and mud. Meziadin Junction was a gas station and maybe two Atco buildings then. We'd lost our gas cap in Kitwanga and amazingly the young fellow in Meziadin had one that fit close enough for us to keep going. We gave him half a box of Okanagan apples for that gas cap when he wouldn't take money. There were bears and more bears on the road then and again last year when we ran up to Dawson City. Congrats on the beautiful pike too. Safe travels.
So beautiful and very exciting to watch. Never a dull moment. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
Omg!! You are the best!! I love watching all your videos! Your journey's through this vast beautiful country is just breathtaking!! Thank you for taking me along with you!! ❤️❤️ Stay safe out there!!
I have never in my life seen water that colour..Wow! Just another day for Dustin...( and us along for the incredible ride).
Thank you for sharing your adventure. You had my full attention looking out the window 😊 Your drone was beyond.
Hello You've got another big show of the outdoors.
Great video Dustin.....the fishin looked awesome! Thanks for bringin me along my friend! I may be easily amused but 15:30 had me rollin.
I was born in Calgary to a First Nations mother and a father from Iowa, was raised in Saudi Arabia, and have spent most of my adult life in New Mexico. I haven't been back to Canada since I was 18. Always meant to, but life had other plans. I'm disabled and can no longer travel, so I feel very fortunate to be able to explore my homeland through your eyes. Thank you so much, Dustin!
Sounds like you have lived a very interesting life, I bet you have some great stories.
@@Destination_Adventure yes, I sure do. Maybe someday I'll get to tell my grandkids!
Our daughter lives in Terrace and is part owner in a Fly Fishing Lodge. I have been enjoying all your videos and when you went to Kincolith, we decided to see it for ourselves. We have been there twice, as recent as this summer. Thanks for all the great videos. Safe travels.
It has been awesome watching the channel grow Dustin! Our province is absolutely stunning - thanks for showcasing it (in an absolutely hilarious fashion, you crack me up man).
Dustin, I really enjoy your story telling, sense of humour, quest for adventure, and choice of music. Well done! 🇨🇦
Enjoyed this! Thank you, its on my "bucket list", not sure I'm gonna make it though. Thanks again, good stuff!
Thank you sir, great job! As always I appreciate you and the courage you have to show us the wonders of this world. Please keep up the good work.
A flashabou clouser minnow! Wow! I sure loved to see that. Those little pike are tasty - And for those big ones I don't care. I caught some about 12" long in the Yukon Territory - but where? I'm sorry I'm not able to find it on a map or remember a name. I've driven the Cassiar Highway. That was when I lived in Alaska. I lived there 7 years. So anyhow - I love your video. 😀
It’s just so beautiful! The color of that water… spectacular! And I’d say the fishing was great!! Thanks for sharing 😊
You never fail to please us with your videography, excellent work. Always watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 No Snow Just Breeze !
I hope you kept one of those Pike for dinner. Happy Trails my friend.
Simply AWESOME Dustin .Thank u for an amazing season
Thanks Dustin, LOVE The VIEWS OMG! I watched your last video too, And I think I remember one of the Lights getting Broke once again on your trailer. I use to have the SAME PROBLEM, so I took some 6 inch Pipe and Cut it so it would Surround my Trailer Lights for Protection. Some may even have to have 8 inch Pipe, We cut it 4 inches thick so it would Protect the Hole Light! Works Rather WELL! THANKS BUD LOVE ALL YOUR TRAVELS!!! BE SAFE AND STAY WARM!!!
I've never seen that Aqua colour before in Canada, thanks for sharing our part of the tiny world.
Thank you for taking us on another great adventure. I have always loved being in the mountains on bad weather days. The mist and clouds really make it a wonderful experience. You are the man when it comes to Pike fishing too. I look forward to you adventures for years to come.
Oh my gosh! You have the most beautiful videos and they are so dang interesting as well! The drone footage, the fishing and just the incredible color throughout has my wanting more! Thanks a ton!
I appreciate that, thank you.
Love that highway, miss it but don't like driving it at all. Absolutely beautiful shots and those pike, amazing job. Thanks for this video, I didn't realize how much I miss that road.
I live in Alberta and it never ceases to amaze me how awesome my country is! Beautiful!
