- Let's take a close look at this old Drake TR7 Ham Radio and see if we can spiff it up a little bit. I'll clean it up, make a quick filter mod, and replace noisy fan.

cool you have one of these to I paid 340 dollars for mine a few years back always wanted one
That looked like a fun project. I have a noisy fan in a MFJ-4125 switching power supply. I think it is a 12v one. It was noisy before the bearing in it started making the dry noise. I think iam going to break down and buy a soldering station like yours. The old HD Weller soldering gun I have is a but to clumsy to do small jobs like this one you did.
Lookin good Rob! Another sweet old school rig.
Love seeing the old radios.
Keeping tabs on who owned your gear before you is awesome. I do that and I want to make a web app to track it for everybody. I call it "Hamcestor"
The only component that you pointed to under the hood I understand is the speaker. The rest,,,,,, nope, its over my head.
Wow you’re very knowledgeable about that 📻 radio! Great video 😎
I really like the smell of WD-40, so that hack would suit me just fine.
Great video, did you do the am mod on the filterboard?
Would love to see how to do it.

It's a winner! I can hear the difference. You could always try 7290 on AM. Made my "Timtron" contact there. 73's de KC2RDU
The LS8038A-X fan is slightly faster and more air flow than the original Drake FA7 fan. 2000 RPM vs 1800. So a very good replacement. Almost as quiet as the FA7
If all minor issues been solved fully filtered and fully featured this TRX is an RF-Tank of its finest. In most cases I first of all remove the Original Fans and replace them with higher efficient super silent fans after purchased my transceivers. I like what I have seen here. Happy weekend & 73's
Hi my friend, can you send me the link to buy one Fun for my Drake TR7.

I don't see the fan link
I guess I forgot to add it to the description ... Here it is now: amzn.to/3nK6eFZ
They charge you arms and legs up on ebay for the matching AM Filter
It seems like any of the drake branded equipment sells for a lot more than it should
Nice tip but following wd40 with new cloth spray simple green to remove excess oil residue and give it that simple green scent 😉😉😆 love seeing the old time rigs would love to hear it maybe you could check into the toad net and get a audio check ☺️KC3ONO
We need ray's seal of approval before the radio can be used on the air. I'm going to check in there someday just for "fun"
@@SevenFortyOne yes tonight might be a educational night on the at 5k tuner topography n balun results. We found their outputs on the balance taps not to be so balanced. 70% on one and 30% on the other plus swr changes when adding chassis ground. So we been trying to fix it by using K material toroids quad stacked. Should be a interesting night 😉😉
If can find time I'll listen in. What time do you start? I don't have an antenna that will tune up on 160 so I can't join but I cAn listen
@@SevenFortyOne 630/7 is when most are done dinner and getting in. I ll send you a email with the link to John’s preliminary report on the at5k & Balun’s so far
Thanks Kevin...it's been a when since I tuned in. Not sure I'll make it at that time but I'll try
