It seems like every UA-camr is crashing their Avata 2, which is a real shame as it sets a certain expectation. Hey beginners, the first thing you should know about flying your Avata 2 in manual mode is the importance of the "Pause" button located on the top left of the controller. Always keep a finger ready to press it. If you're ever confused about what the drone is doing, hitting that button will halt everything, giving you a moment to regroup. Even if your drone is upside down and plummeting towards the ground at 50 mph, pressing this button will stabilize it and wait for you to calm down. Remember, this button is your lifeline; prioritize it, especially before attempting any risky maneuvers.
Indeed the pause button or switching into S/N mode is a game changer to save one from trouble. I learned it the hard way after first crashing once into grass, mostly because nobody highlights this as best practice for beginners! 😂🔥
Yep, I am not doing manual yet still practising in the simulator. But I am practising pressing that pauze button in sport mode all the time. If pressing that button becomes muscle memory then that will safe me later in manual!
I just purchased this drone two days ago. This is my very first drone ever and I am having a blast so far. I want to order a control very soon so I can have better response, I like the motion controller but I think I would do a lot better with the controller 3.
Last Sunday, I crashed my Avata 2 after 3 days of having it. Immediately used the care refresh express and the new one came in on Wednesday. I just flew it today and I was much more conservative. Just have to get my confidence back up.
Thats because avata’s aren’t meant for freestyle…there not meant for the crashes and beatings a legit FPV drone is meant to handle.. just build your own cinewhoop people. DJI is a money grabber.. they don’t care about the hobby..
Thanks for the video. I'm new to the drone scene after seeing someone fly a custom drone at a tech conference. He advised me to buy this one, and advised me to get a warranty from the vendor. After buying it I noticed DJI had a replacement plan that better aligned to my goals, and I canceled the vendor warranty and got the DJI warranty. It's nice to see this and learn how reliable that warranty is. I am a more cautious flyer and haven't received my FPV Remote yet. I've only hit a few tree limbs so far and I'm in good shape. I wish I had more time to fly and that there were more places to do so near me. I plan to post my videos to UA-cam as well. o7
Cool video! Always a good idea to bring it back slowly and check for damage no matter how small the crash. Better safe than sorry. Glad you had CR. Thanks for sharing! 🤘
First rule of flying a drone: No matter how little the crash, you go get it and exam it for damage. The second thing I wanted to say is that when you flipped it into manual mode the green dots that you need to align before it switches it to manual mode were pretty close to the middle, so that was just bad on DJI's end tbh.
I'm wondering if that's based on the angle he set earlier. I have flown in manual a few times without changing the angle and my left stick needs to go down a bit more than his to engage manual
Nice flying. I love the Avatas and have both 1 and 2. Things to keep in mind; 1. These are highly sensored, automated drones. If you crash, something may be knocked out of calibration. Need to throughly check out the drone after a crash. 2. Compared to any other modern drone the Avata 2 doesn’t fly acro very well. It’s ok, but if I am going to fly acro I have much better drones for that. I love the motion controller and view the Avata 2 as an explorer drone. Love your videos.
As a intermediate level pilot, manual mode still feels like the TRUE razors edge of this cinewhoops capabilities. So motion controller works PERFECTLY for what this drone is TRULY intended for. To each their own choice. But SPEED isn't always a positive for a plastic drone + collisions. Fly safe💪💯👍🏾
@@ChadB Very awesome. I've come to the conclusion to "always bring the quads and be ready to fly" for when things like that pop up. We were going to a shindig at a wedding venue last weekend. I showed up a bit early brought the quads and am super glad I did. The flight was a blast and video came out great.
Care refresh is a bliss. I hope I get it sometime soon in my country. It's keeping me from really squeezing the avata 2 to what I would like. For sure I wouldn't mind paying 50$, but that $500 new avata would mean final crash for me. I fly manual but for most of the time I keep the M mode altitude limit. Unless practicing full acro
I broke my 3 Pro within 30 seconds of my first flight lol Refresh is a blessing. I know a few people who've had fly away and crashes etc and DJI is super good with replacing
I just got my controller 3. The A2 allowed me to take off in manual mode no problem but when I attempted to land in manual it tried to absolutely kill itself, in fact, had it not slammed itself upside down and shut off, there would likely have been refresh service required. Nothing I did was shutting the motors down, finally, hitting the pause button is when it turned over and hit the ground full throttle inverted. Thankfully it was less than 18" off the ground when it flipped & dove in so no damage resulted. Going to switch to normal or sport modes for take off / landing until I understand this puzzle a little better. Cheers
Awesome video! DJI Care Refresh goes beyond my personal expectations in resolving issues expediently, especially having crashed the original numerous times :) Definitely enjoy flying the Avata 2!
Nice flight i just got the avata 2 what a fun drone. The motion controller is great to get use to the speed, depth and also fun to go explore your spot. Full manual give you more option that for sure, but better start slow and build your skill up.
Would I be right in thinking the beep made you think that you'd changed it from sport mode into manual but it didn't actually change and then clicking whatever you clicked again made it go into manual which you weren't expecting? Looked like absolutely rock solid flying to that point though, well done!
the gimbal us easy to fix, i crashed it into a metal roof once and i just heated the drone up to bend it back and put some new gimbal dampers on and it was completely fine. it was really damaged and the gimbal was not even in the drone but i just put some gimbal dampers on and i didnt need care refresh
I see lots of youtubers flying the avata 2 without a spotter .is there something you can get to fly with the goggles solo as i though that was illegal.
My lower gimbal housing arms snapped after hitting the trunk of a tree in my yard. I didn't want to use a refresh on something minor so I tied a thin strand of wire snug enough to hold it in place but now the video is more floaty with the left side gimbal guard going in and out of frame throughout the flight. Looks like a finger keeps coming into the view randomly lol. Now I made it a habit to keep my finger between the brake/rth button and the N/S/M mode switch ready if something comes up rather than a panic pitch back throttle pump 🤦🏼♂
My advice to current DJI aerial tripod operators wanting to learn to fly proper FPV: buy something that can actually take a crash, and more importantly something that you can repair minor damage yourself. There's plenty of great BetaFlight-based BNF platforms out there that come fitted with a DJI O3 unit. Learning FPV means crashing. A. Lot. A BNF that's durable and fixable is the best way to spend your dosh. Once you've learned to fly in Acro Mode with few if any Walks of Shame, _then_ plonk down the really big bucks on your Avata 2. Gotta learn to walk before you try to run.
Great flying! 11:15 happen to me flying the original Avata, switched it from normal to manual and it lost control and slammed into wall. Im sure it was pilot error. I have the Avata 2 (flown twice) wont fly til I get Dobo's bumpers and ND filters. It's too fragile.
I really like a lot about the avata 2, but needing to put bumpers on prop guards because the prop guards are too fragile is kind of wild to me. There are plenty of cinewhoops with similar or thinner designed prop guards that can hold up to a crash. Its unfortunate that its so not possible for the prop guards to be replaced by the user, but I guess they really want to sell that DJI care.
Great flying! I like that DJI is making accessible options that anyone can pick up and use with little training. I plan to test the motion RC when I get my Avata 2, and maybe ill have some fun. But the fact is time spent on the motion RC is a waste if you are trying to build pilot skills, or if you ever want to use your drone in a remotely professional way. The motion RC is less precise, less safe and doesn't teach you any skills that transfer to the rest of the field of UAV flight.
Oh that’s interesting to know. 😅 think it’s my noob fpv flying but I get it several times each flight. Perhaps im turning too harshly. Not too sure yet.
Great flying! Obviously sport mode with the MC doesn't compare to manual mode with the RC but with a whole lot of practice on the MC, you can get really good and it's a different kind of flying. You should take some time to really get to know the MC and what it can do, especially with head tracking.
Hey Chad. Checking you out cause I have an Avata 2 arriving today and tomorrow. (Controller 3 today, 3 battery Fly More tomorrow) Thinking ahead, I bought the FPV Controller 3 up front, since flying with the motion controller seems fun, and looks relatively easy to learn, but DOES NOT transfer to traditional manual FPV piloting. I don't think I will BE READY for manual flight for weeks, possibly MONTHS, lol -but I want the hardware available when I -feel brave enough and competent enough- overly confident and stupid enough to take the plunge, as they say.
In another video you show using the DJI Fpv controller 3 for the Avata2 with lift off. Just checking it DOES work as the Google and motion controller 3 seem not to. Great videos by the way!!!
The first crash you should of checked it prior to the 2nd flight on the 2nd flight you contiuned flying it with your headset battery in the red , the goggles are the hub to all of it and sll the comme for rc and feed are via them so lettign it get that low isnt wise
I had that same thing happen with the fpv drone accidentally flipped the mode switch to manual and the sticks just happened to be in the right position and it went into manual and flipped upside down and crashed.
I have a question for anyone that provide some guidance on manual mode and rate and expo settings. I have been flying RC planes and drones for some years. but this is my first Avata(2). I have flown sims in "Acro" (manual) mode. I've flown Avata2 only in sport because I find the default Rate and Expo setting problematic especially in gusty winds (>16mph). I understand rates and expo are a personal choice but If I wanted a setting i.e. that gave me more time to react what might those settings look like? Thanking in advance for your time and consideration. HFTA

Hey Mike...yup, I've been very busy, so I don't have much time to fly and shoot videos. Hopefully, things will lighten up in the upcoming months to where I can go out more.
Great video, sorry about the crash. I am still on the fence about updating to Avata 2. Cool to see you are in Virginia, is that where you are from, I live in Roanoke.
@@ChadB Same here, but I have lived in Virginia so long now I consider myself from here, lol. Yes, lots of places to fly here in the Roanoke area, but always looking for new places.
its very bold move to just mark it hover after crash not onlynfor turning back but continuing flight i would fly crashed drone inlynif its somewhere i cant collect... İnthought it fell down while making acrobatics so i was like will it crash doing this flip entire video 😅
Hay great informative video . I was needing to find a simulator to learn how to fly it looks like liftoff is more for PlayStation do you know of a simulator that would work on Windows and then would also work with the controller anyway any insight would be greatly appreciated looking forward to more of your videos thanks
12:51 dang that sucks bro. Care refresh so soon. This past weekend i blew my first propeller on my avata 1. Luckily it happened when i was testing turtle mode at home while my drone was on the kitchen floor. Dont know why it would randomly explode doing that. But anyways as i said this was my first time blowing a prop so inwas uncertain if i was supposed to change just the broken one or all of them even though the other 3 were fine. I searched online and got mixed reviews. Some saying replace the broken one and others saying replace them all. In the end i ended up calling dji tech support line and man they ran me through a tedious task asking me all sorts of questions about my drone and in the end they were like "we recommend you send in your drone for service. You can use care refresh." I was like foreals bro? You gonna have me send my drone in for a care refresh service for a broken prop? I just ended up replacing all of the props to be on the safe side. Dang dji trying to screw me by having me use my care refresh over a broken prop wth man.
Ahh man that sucks. Yeah, you accidentally hit Manual mode with a -15degree camera and probably get it Normal mode stick inputs. The more Avata 2 videos I see the more I realize I don't need it, even as a Travel quad. I had a much nastier crash with my Pavo25 V2 last week (pretty fast into a metal sign). I'm waiting on a new motor - sadly the spares aren't available in the US. The bottom "lip" of the O3 is cracked so that camera may never take an ND filter again. Hopefully it's otherwise fine (the other motors spin and the O3 works).
I broke mine after 5 days. You made the same mistake I did and didn't press the emergency brake that DJI have. The goggles switched screens on me and it slammed the ground full throttle 60MPH!
Nice video! A comment not about the content, but about the frame rate you mentioned at the beginning. Exporting a 50fps video as 24fps actually made the video look juddery, exactly what you were trying to avoid... Maybe it's because I'm in Europe, but anyway I think most people are going to watch this on their phones (and some on computers), they all support 60Hz / 120Hz refresh rates, so usually I find that 30/60 fps videos exported as 30/60 works best. However, if I recall correctly, the Avata 2 doesn't support 60fps, but instead 24/30/50/100...? Not sure. Anyway that's just my experience watching this otherwise very nice video :)
Thanks. The video was exported at 25fps. It probably looked jittery because of the high shutter speed. I didn't have ND filters at the time I filmed this video. I will have an ND filter review video out soon, which will show a better example. Or you can check out this video with the first Avata. ua-cam.com/video/48pZ_qh36ac/v-deo.htmlsi=RvxmGGBHaRRpcN-5
Nice flying! Near the beginning, you mentioned your frame rate at 25fps. I normally record videos at 30fps, but the Avata 2 looks slightly jittery at lower frame rates. Like how yours turned out. Ready Set Drone's latest video talks about this if you want to see examples, side by side. Would 50fps work for you? I think you'll notice that the goggles feed as well as the final video will be buttery smooth at higher frame rates. I wish we could film at different frame rates as what we see in the goggles. You fly with amazing confidence (that tree just grabbed you out of the air 😅), but I think you'll agree that higher frame rates will make your flying experience better. Even with ND filters, the Avata 2 wasn't as smooth of an experience in the goggles at lower frame rates. Sorry about the crash into the rocks! 🫤
It's too expensive for tricks and as the video shows that gimble won't hold up. My best advice is start with a microqaud like the HappyModel Meteror 65 ELRS and go from there to something bigger. You will learn far more crashing a meteor to become a better pilot than you will with this

Thanks. Not originally from Virginia , but been here for a little while. I bet you have some good places to fly in Roanoke.
Thanks. You can get Liftoff for Windows or Mac, and you can use the dji fpv remote with it.
Liftoff and Uncrashed, both for windows on steam are fantastic sims.
@@ChadB thanks Chad. Dave..
you shoukd try fpv logic another good simulator
Dang dji trying to screw me by having me use my care refresh over a broken prop wth man.
does the Avata use GPS?
Hey bro, I really need some of those prop guard green covers. Where to buy ?
How can I learn to fly like this?
Thanks for the video Chad. Tough luck on the crash. I was happy to hear that you got a replacement very quickly. Have a ball with the Avata 2..
Thank you
Dope video. New subscriber
Thanks
Is this a Boeing drone?
You had the angle set to -15° and did a flip and flew it straight into the ground! Pilot error
Bro you can press emergency break
the gimbal mount is SUPER flimsy on the avata 2 unfortunately.
I broke mine after 5 days. You made the same mistake I did and didn't press the emergency brake that DJI have. The goggles switched screens on me and it slammed the ground full throttle 60MPH!
I'm sorry to hear about. Hopefully you were able to get a replacement.
@@ChadB We will see when if it returns
I agree, don't be afraid of crashing. But I'd be far more afraid to crash the Avata quads.
Ruuuh Rrrroooooe
Time to install gimbal guards.
please review about the motion!!! i dont have money jajaja
I got one and it keeps drifting into my wall … I’m scared to even take it outside.
Lol. Take it outside. There s no gps inside brother
Just had my first day of flying and I'm not that happy with it. I might return it
It's too expensive for tricks and as the video shows that gimble won't hold up. My best advice is start with a microqaud like the HappyModel Meteror 65 ELRS and go from there to something bigger. You will learn far more crashing a meteor to become a better pilot than you will with this
It is impossible to fly manual mode with negative camera tilt ,you need at least +20
Avata 737 MAX
I guess you wanted +15 instead of -15? -15 would be to flight backwards.
Dude you have 12k in subscribers and you crashed one of the most crash proof drones ever made Wow!!
He aimed up and up.... and then aimed down 😅
Yeah,crashproof,for sure😂😂
Oh boy🙄
12:45 uffffffff 😮😢
Yes, it was very disappointing😞. But I got the new one in a couple of days.
Engage emergency brake!
I thought you need a visual observer when flying with goggles?
