I haven’t watched all the videos for the short bus, I’ve only watched the video of you buying it and this one. I gotta say man you turned that bus into one badass little rig!
Your roof top deck is looking absolutely amazing!!!! I can just picture putting a big comforter blanket, a couple pillows, and a nice drink and just watching the stars. So amazing!!!! Much love to y’all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Privacy sail panel fabric in between the railing frame would be cool. 4 grommets tied with color coordinating rope. But may eat up mpg. Could do sides or every other frame. The bus looks great.
Mike you are so talented, I so love the fact your so upbeat continue to be just that way. Love the way you pull Dale into your space and he's just so whatever. 😆😆
Where's that HVAC guy when you could've used him the most?? This deck project turned out pretty incredible. Would not have thought of the power port. Exceptional add right there. Looking forward to the rest of the build! Great work Michael.
I do have one suggestion. Make a case of some sort for the air conditioner on top of the bus. If you somehow manage to get into a hail of any severity, it will destroy the fins on the outside A/C unit
Thank you for showing us the steps you're taking and explaining some of the thoughts going into decisions. Your videos have inspired me to decide I'm going to do this. I just need to save up money and move somewhere that I can work on a project like this. Also I love your choice of music throughout your videos.
Really neat stuff, at 57 it sure has me dreaming. Thanks for doing what you do! Received your "blue bus" sticker in the mail yesterday. Super cool....I just can't decide where to put it!
You are so awesome and you and Dale make a awesome awesome working pair actually y'all make awesome friends I think Dale needed you and kind of like you're doing a service to him I just think y'all were just awesome together somewhere God made for y'all to meet and become good friends family you might say
Your doing a amazing job on the bus build, very detailed and I like how you explain everything your doing and how and why. This is making me want to buy a bus and do the same thing. Keep up the good work and those videos coming👍
@@ashleymarks6144 Well said. I don't think it's Karen-ish to express genuine concern. It's being a "good neighbor" and watching out for each other. I got careless and didn't wear goggles one time (when I knew I needed to.) Got an eye injury - and NOW I wear eye protection!
Great content, as usual. Couple of questions: 1) What are the bushings on the refrigerant lines where they penetrate the roof? 2) What's your minimum clearance once the roof deck railing is installed? Thanks!
great progress, as always. how do you keep up your drive and enthusiasm for these big, long duration projects? i lose it after a month or two on my small projects.
The propane and AC lines are in a most vulnerable position right up front. are you going to be putting something in front of/around them for protection?
Whens the next part in the series!? I cant wait to start seeing the inside go together! Working on a suv camper build inspired by your videos with luke and hope to some day own a shuttle or short bus like this! Keep the content coming!
@@navigationnowhere thats amazing, hearing your project move forward gets me excited, you have a great channel with amazing content and its very inspiring! Keep up the good work
@@navigationnowhere i havent known about your channel for long but i think iv watched just about every video so far, or close too, big fan! And the oppertunity you have to meet people along the way to be able to build around your family and freinds is amazing! Keep inspiring
Sort of random question but do you have any info on how to remove all the arms and electric for the bus door? And maybe any info on how to remove the fire supression system? 🙏🏾 thank you
I'm thinking I might have extended the railing a bit back behind the bus and mounted the minisplit and propane tank out there rather than taking up deck space. Just a tought
Dang, you must run fast when you go to the store 😅 Always a great watch, and keeps me motivated on my van. I learn something new every video. If you head west for winter let me know if you make it to Joshua tree national park. You could get a free local guide lol safe travels, slow and steady wins the race.
Let luc know too. Because in his video, he said he was coming out west. That fj is shweet! 👍 Twin 5 yo boys has me thinking skoolie before I finish my van 🤦♂️🤣😅 currently working on my second van build video.
You can. I didn’t in this case because the bus is 21 feet with the ladder attached and I didn’t want to go over 21ft because that’s a very common length restriction on roads and some parks.
This build is incredible, very inspiring but my only concern is the propane tank, wont it be in direct sunlight creating more pressure? is it safe up there?
They will be find on the roof. They are designed to handle the pressure. They are white specifically because they reflect the most amount of sunlight. Most places won't fill non-white tanks.
Porque usas mini split y no un aire acondicionado de ventana? gracias por los videos son geniales - Why do you use mini split and not a window air conditioner? thanks for the videos they are great -
Hey! How did you factor in the energy consumption of the mini split? I have yet to find a way to justify the 700 watts an hour. Any tips on this? Also, are you adding 110 outlets all over the bus as well? Thank you so much for your videos! I have loved watching as we prep our bus and finalize plans!
Because there seems to a large amount of 'this is how it's done' thinking as opposed to 'why it's done this way' thinking. Why all the insulation work, but leaving the single pane leaky windows? I've asked that question several times and never gotten an answer...
The ac unit is mounted in the front of the deck because it is now over 8 feet from the interior unit. For proper efficiency and for the unit to work properly it should be placed minimum 5 feet. (5 feet is also the distance the unit is tested at for efficiency at the factory.) If you were to mount it on the rear of the bus and then place the interior unit at the rear of the bus it would not give you the recommend distance and it would not work at its potential. Also, I mounted it on the roof deck because I will be doing a 4x4 conversion and I didn’t want these close to the ground. 😂
Love the progress just a quick question. Why did you put the ac condenser on the deck not in front or back of it would it not been easier to just build a rack off the back of the deck for the ac and propane tanks.
Is it true the electrical wiring can become brittle and there is a chance of short circuiting if you bury it in closed cell foam? Would using nylon pipes to run the wiring be a large extra expense?
Any chance we could chat about the old fuse mess above the driver area? I took out the old A/C and blower just need to know if I can ditch all the wiring. just a few questions. Thanks man! Great job big fan
Enjoy all your videos and considering a bus or van built. Question - why have the a/c upright onto of the roof? Wouldn't it be better protected on the back? Might you have height issues going under underpasses and trees now? Thanks.
I LOVE IT..!!!! Hey is your MiniSplit going to be run off solar or shore power..??? I’m trying to figure out if I want to get one or not and it’s getting pretty close to be buying one if so..!!!

Dale is not afraid of heights. He just “respects” heights too much to not mess with it. Great job on the roof!
Impressive, doing everything all by yourselves. Dale and your dad, by now, deserve a medal.
They get a medal, gold star, friends and family of the year award, and a trip in Ivan 😀

It was something I really wanted on my last bus

I see the roof top deck is ready for the hot tub installation!
Yeah! Have to start to figure out how to carry that much water. 🤔
@@navigationnowhere Yeah, water's heavy, 2.2 pounds per liter, keep it empty while you drive and only fill it when you stop!
That’s a solid idea but a lot of weight haha
Before you foam , you could run a conduit top to bottom and maybe front to back in case you ever want to run wires in the future just an idea
Mike this is really starting to look great!
Found through Steampunk Steves channel. Look forward to seeing some of your adventures.

Dale wear safety glasses when grinding down that metal. A piece of metal in the eye would be very, very bad!!
I rarely comment about woulda, shoulda, coulda’s. I am no “Karen”. I would be devastated if Dale got hurt for not wearing PPE. Love you guys.

Have you seen the small platforms on the back of buses like yours? They are great for bikes and large bulky items like a generator.
Yay finally... love your videos!! Excited almost finished....
Are you going to cover the propane tank? Great job ya'll 👍
Yes I ordered a cover
It looks great!! Whats the hight of that now though? Just be careful going on certain freeways and learn the hight so you don't hit anything!!!
You might consider some sort of protection for the front of the mini-split to protect it from anything that might hit it while traveling on the road.
I think I might weld on some expanded metal.
@@navigationnowhere good idea! That would offer protection while still allowing free air flow
Just love watching

Hi, I've been watching your build, and I was just wanting to know if you would go some where a do that for other people?
Auto store would have a flare kit for brakes not sure it would had big enough
Lo.o.king GOOD!!!!♥️😊
does outside air condition part have to be vertical ? would it work horizontal ?
Question: since you cut into the tubing on the mini split ac, do you have to have a professional adjust the amount of the freon?
Could you have mounted the mini split on the back

Now with the mini split do you have to cover it in rain or snow or is it already weatherized?
It’s made to be mounted outside
Where did you find that bender?? I was in plumbing and industrial construction for 47 yr.s and have never seen such a nice bender.
It was from a local friend on mine who was a plumber years ago.
Love the build and the tunes, but why the mini-split on the roof?
Going to be 4x4 in the future. Rather not have it close to things i am going to hit haha.
Hey are you attaching solar panels. How are you planning on running electric.
Solar panels are going on the front. I ran all wires needed to be Installed prior to spray foam so it is just a plug and play later.
are you over the max height with the mini spilt on the roof ..
No the bus is only 10.6
yeah. Dales hot . lol
Why didn't but you mount the external part of the a/c unit at the end of the deck over the internal part???
Like mount it to the bustop? Instead of to the deck?!🥰👍
Because there seems to a large amount of 'this is how it's done' thinking as opposed to 'why it's done this way' thinking. Why all the insulation work, but leaving the single pane leaky windows? I've asked that question several times and never gotten an answer...

Does your roof top railing system not put you over the height restriction for your bus?
Nope. I am still a good 2 feet under legal height but was something I was considering.
With the condenser up on the roof how high does that make the bus? What will the finished height be?
