  • Call me perverse, but I prefer those days where the sky is cloudy and grey. Show me a clear blue sky and it just looks bleak... That and I have to worry about great long shadows everywhere.

Wow! It's full of medieval city vibes! Is it because of the building? I enjoyed! Great sharing, my friend! Thanks!

Thank you so much. It is a very old village. I'm so glad you enjoyed wandering though it with me. Hope to see you again soon and thanks for the support.

There is something to be said about the harsh light from the sun. Grey clouds and skies provide a much less harsh environment for photography. I love the fields, once you walk beyond the cemetery. The old stone wall to the right is wonderful. I love all of the amazing images you took of the trees and vegetation. They were quite good. It looks like you are starting to see some signs of fall in your area too. Some of the homes have some wonderful gardens. I love the hedge arch at 14:49. It is amazing how it frames the front door. Some people are very creative. These homes are very nice in that area. Lower Swell looks like a great place to explore. I always love your walks. They provide me with a lot of enjoyment. Thanks again for all your work in putting this together.

Thank you for the kind words and detailed appreciation. There is a beauty in these places but I sometimes wonder how well this beauty comes across to the viewer. Sometimes, I feel that I have failed to convey the true beauty of a place. In general, I do prefer cloudy days or, to be more precise, days with clouds. If the sky is just white and bleak that is terrible. But those days with a bit of weather on the horizon are often the most wonderful. Deep dark rain clouds or even lighter colourful clouds being rushed across the sky by a strong wind. I know that a couple of my fellow walkers like to film at the break of dawn and the effect is quite mesmerising. I love the way that you have employed a more varied approach to videos of late. I missed a lot of the shorts at first. Shorts show up in a different place and my eye sometimes ignores the format. I did a few last year when I was still filming on my phone and I didn't hate them. The format is best for those little phone moments I think. I love the other forms. I love the longer videos which live up to the purely sounds name. The ones that work best for me are those with the gentlest sounds that I can leave running while I work on something else. Watch the filmed part and then just have the sound of lapping water or birdsong. But the shorts allow the casual viewer a moment that can last a day. Thank you for your comments and support as always.

@@jagoturner I always enjoy watching your videos and seeing the world through your eyes. I always learn something from reading your descriptions.
I truly appreciate all of your support for my channel. Your comments are always very thoughtful and helpful.
I have found that shorts help to drive views and subscribers. I continue to mix and match and try different approaches. It is always interesting to see when something works or does work very well.
You may want to use shorts to direct people back to your long format videos. You can pin a comment on the short and the long format with a link to each video.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I am always happy to try and help.
I hope that you have a good day.

So, this is my fourth time watching this video within the past 48 hrs! It has really drawn me in! So many wonderful scenes throughout. There is also something special about the music that deeply draws me in, I think it could be the lingering pedal tone? Whatever it is, the music & visuals go together like bread and butter! And what a great way to end this walk, by going full circle to where it all began. Thanks for sharing this wonderful walk, Jago. All the best. OAAW

Wow. That's amazing... I agree fully about the music. I was so mixed about ever using music. The first criticisms my channel received were from people who did not like the intrusion of music in a walking video and I could see their point. I like those videos, such as most of yours, where the sounds of nature are all the music you need. But then I found that many of my videos worked better with it than without it. At least while people are mowing their lawns and cars are speeding by and people, as the delightful people of the Cotswolda are prone to, stop and say hello to the idiot wandering around with a camera. Your comments and your support are so welcome.

@@jagoturner I think the added music gives your channel a strong sense of a unique identity and definitely for the better, it is your choice of music that really sells it, as you seem to mostly use ambient, which I believe works extremely well for walking videos, at least for my taste. Obviously having music on walking videos is not going to be for everyone (but don’t ever let that deter you), which is fair enough as it would be a boring world if we all liked exactly the same thing. Keep up the good work, because your videos are a staple part of my UA-cam diet :)

@@OutandaboutWalking It is so true. I often feel, when I watch one of your videos or one or a number of others, that I have just spent time with a valued friend. All have very different styles and personalities. When I was last in Castlecombe, I saw people from all over the world wanting to be photographed as part of something unusual and magical for them. They were for that little while, part of that world and part of that landscape. It was part of their life to be for an afternoon in Castlecombe. But in order to know it forever they had to insert themselves into the landscape and do that little 'V' sign. When I walk through these Cotswold villages, I become just as much of a tourist every time I point my camera (although I don't do self inserts or 'v' signs). The everydayness of what I see ceases to be so everyday. Pointing a camera focuses our perceptions so that we see what we see every day as if we are seeing it for the first or the last time like one of those visitors to Castlecombe. And that is what I hope to do for people watching the videos. We are walking together through this town, village or city. It's constantly amazing to be here but we don't have to say so. The way we look at things tells the story.
