it's the opposite. people have their idea and put that idea into these. and bring the imagination into these so other people can see it. we all had a great idea in our mind but it's hard for other people to get it. you can imagine, right?
Uniday Studio - it's like comparing apples with pears. But, yeah, the Karma renderer will do have GPU support. And will be able to render an insane amount of geometry data! Even on GPU! I wish Cycles can get to the same level one day!

Houdini has some features that gives it some pretty tight integration with UE. The reel is about what's possible with the software and considering Houdini is more than capable of rendering that on it's own I don't think it's very misleading. People who use those features should be able to piece it together and people who don't should know that you could make it... if nothing else, it's a great way to start a sales call.

@@PervonHarke You don't really edit in Houdini. I saw someone else speculating that maybe some of the models were made in Houdini, but that's not really enough reason to just cop the whole video without explanation
I'm always in awe watching the reels of these companies, and the harsh reality is, by the time your read my comment, it's probably too late to even start learning Houdini to make even one scene :P

When getting started with visual effects at home, which is better, an Imac or windows based system? And which models and programs are used besides Houdini?
Most workstation machines like mine are in the 2 - 3 k range. Rendering is where the money is, where they'll use many servers linked together to divide up the rendering process to multiple high powered machines. So rather than being 2 - 3 k it's closer to 30 - 40 k because you are getting many high end machines. TheFreshSpam is right! Next thing on my hit list is a color accurate screen... costing nearly 5k. Now that's a punch in the wallet. (You can find some decent dell ones for around 2k)

But one question, do the VFX have the videogame looking on purpose. For showing where all the money go. Or photo realistic just simple hard to achievable. I not sure but all the Hollywood movies around 3 or 5 years lately have this same videogame feeling to it.

For example, the avenger have this real feeling but avenger end game look like animated. And we all know how much better endgame have. It is the same with all of movie lately
@@Akai_raion There are tons videos about that topic on UA-cam. I would recommend VFX artists react to good and bad CGI by Corridor crew. They explain in a case by case basis. Its almost always comes down to either the lighting, the physics or textures. And this mistakes happen a lot lately because VFX artists and studios are more overworked than ever. Photorealistic CGI is achievable, and in fact you have seen it and not noticed it.
@@jascrandom9855 I know and watch them. I mean, recently, for some reason all of cgi look the same and have this fake feeling. for exame We all know how much Endgame bigger and have better cgi detail. But The avenger 2012 feel more real while endgame look like a videogame cutscene.
@@Akai_raion In that specific case, it might have to do with the Colors. Back in 2012, they used are more grey-ish very mute color scheme, while for Endgame they went for more vibrant colors.
Can anyone explain what Houdini actually does? I use maya/substance painter/ Unreal engine for my projects and I am unsure what I would use Houdini for instead of maya/substance painter/unreal engine 4? I appreciate any info.
Houdini is a simulator. And simulates liquids, gas, dust, debris. Simulates wood explosions, cracks. Smashes. It does light, and any form of dynamic situation that requires a high level of real world accuracy while including a comprehensive and fast way to simulate it. You can do lots of these things in maya or unreal but like each software package, it specialises in a certain area. Unreal being real-time. Maya being animation/ modelling and houdini being dynamic simulation. It also does amazing procedural generation

@@lostwithdan4331 In short, Houdini wouldn't be a replacement for unreal. It depends on what you want. Unreal is all about real-time images and movement so if you were to create something in maya and then take it into houdini to add effects you would have to take into consideration how many 'objects' unreal could still animate without lag. You would still need to use unreal for the lighting and end effects. What houdini really works well for tho is rendered video. Where you would create a model and animation in maya ( e.g a whale jumping out of water ) and then import that into houdini to simulate the water. then export the animation to maya to add final effects. Or render both separately and layer them together in editing software. The rendered video allows for millions or billions of particles to be simulated compared to hundreds of thousands or a few million in real time on unreal. Realistically the difference is one is for games ( unreal ) one is for film ( houdini), but you can mix match them together depending on what type of effects are done better on either one
@@TheFreshSpam I make short scenes so just for instance say a model of a house and I create scenes within that model to create environments so I only need a camera for cinematic scenes and visual changes within the scene so would it be best to keep unreal engine for that or would Houdini replace that side of unreal engine.
@@lostwithdan4331 No keep to unreal engine. It's really good at the moment. But do delve into Mayas Arnold engine or Nvidias Mental Ray engine if you can. Both work on maya. Unreal can get really great effects and lighting but you should try those engines and see what you get. You can get ultra real work when you combine substance, maya and zbrush

You know, it's always something about the animals. They can never make them look quite right. It almost seems like they're doing *too much.* In an effort to make sure the animals are full of life, they're over-animating them. Maybe it's something about the eyes, too? I don't know... but 3D animals still don't look right in movies...

Blender is open source so VFX companies can't hold blender accountable for any program errors so that's why use Houdini

That depends on on the artistic direction the Filmmakers do. A lot of VFX actually goes unnoticed.

BAD TV there might be a work around for you but that’s an AMD issue to my understanding. Look it up. I use Intel Xeon.

Isn't 0:37 made in Unreal Engine 4? It's the footage from Quixel's Unreal Engine 4 Rebirth video.
It was rendered in ue4, but created in Houdini
you can't make assets in unreal engine, you can only import assets created with other programs. UE4 only do the rendering part in that video.
Maya Vs Houdini - Which one is more powerful or has a steep learning curve?
Both extremely powerful. Maya is friendly but temperamental. Houdini is a wicked witch with powers unimaginable but hard to tame
