@@NoSaiCeeNxT - The OG David Cronenberg, that's who! The guy who staged an apocalypse on $400K Canadian (at that time about $250K US) and carried it off with RABID; the guy who had a divorcee's Children of Rage attacking people in THE BROOD; the guy who brought the world SCANNERS and THE FLY; and the guy who created VIDEODROME. This movie is Cronenberg revisiting some of his earliest work! He made a great art film in the 70s also called _Crimes of the Future_ based upon a similar concept, that in artificial environments people might start developing new kinds of organs. So he's coming full circle here and apparently fleshing out (LOL) the themes into a mature feature film. I've known it was in production and have been looking forward to it, even moreso having seen the trailer.
I read in an interview that he’s been trying to make this movie for 20-30 years. Thanks for the info about the short film he made in the 70’s. I wasn’t aware of it, would love to check it out. I really enjoyed the feature film. I was quite disappointed with Cosmopolis and Map to the Stars after he made such amazing films with Viggo in History of Violence and Eastern Promises back to back. So it was very gratifying to see Cronenberg’s return to form.

Longtime Cronenberg fan. Been one of my favorite directors since I saw The Fly back in junior high school. He hasn't really made a movie like this since eXistenZ and that was in 1999 so I'm super hyped!
The story is set in the not-too-distant-future, in a time when humankind has learned to alter their biological makeup - some natural, some surgically. Celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Mortensen) and his partner Caprice (Seydoux), showcase the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Meanwhile, Timlin (Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, tracks their movements, revealing a mysterious group whose mission is to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution. In a statement, Cronenberg said, “Crimes of the Future is a meditation on human evolution. Specifically - the ways in which we have had to take control of the process because we have created such powerful environments that did not exist previously. At this critical junction in human history, one wonders - can the human body evolve to solve problems we have created? Can the human body evolve a process to digest plastics and artificial materials not only as part of a solution to the climate crisis, but also, to grow, thrive, and survive?” NO NEVER! The film is due to be released in June 2022 following its Cannes Film Festival premiere next month.
They hyped up "Crimes of the Future" and its last 20 minutes to be more/as depraved as "Crash", I'm expecting some people walking out on this film if that's the case. Inject that shit into my veins and fuck me up, David Cronenberg!
I keep imagining its depravity and a bunch of Kristen Stewart stans who have no concept of Cronenberg or his oeuvre seeing this because they loved her in “Spencer”.

This was a strange ride, but if you're a fan of Cronenberg and his movies like Crash and Videodrome you're really going to enjoy it. His signature is all over this flick. There's a lot of high art pretension but also self-awareness and even satire at itself. It's brimming with sexual tension and like Cronenberg is known for it explores that sexual tension in every way EXCEPT the conventional Hollywood sex scene. I wouldn't say this is my favorite of the year, there's a lot of competition, but it's the one I've thought about the most after watching which I think is a win in Cronenberg's book.
