Mind you Yasopp has shown some reluctance to meet Usopp, though that could because he isn't sure how Usopp will react to their reunion! Still they got along well during their brief interaction (via their familial Observation Haki connection) in the non-canon One Piece Film: Red!
With all due respect, it's easier to check which bio dad doesn't svck. THE CONTENDERS: - The kings of countries that Luffy saved. We don't have a lot on them. But like... Neptune doesn't svck and Riku Doldo works... Vivis dad is okay. - Now Kyros... That one actually put work into saving his daughter. Lost an entire leg - Oden is in a similar vein. He was a good man to look up to and dled protecting his men. So... Honorable daddy - Bege is actively alive and present for his son's life. Now that's an achievement. Any big gestures? Not really, but that isn't important. He is there. I might have missed an okay bio dad
To give Yasopp the benefit of the doubt, chances are his wife got sick sometime after he left. And it isn’t like he just didn’t care about Usopp either, Luffy said Yasopp talked about his son a lot while he was in Foosha village. It’s possible he doesn’t want to see his son probably because he feels shame for not being there when he needed him the most.
He did worse stuff but i swear to God. Sanji finally working the courage to escape his abuse and stand up to hos father only for his father to be like "oh you want to leave? Thank God. Get out of here. Don't tell anyone we're related please. I couldn't handle the shame" legitimately leaves me bawling every time.
And when Luffy removed these shackles from Yamato, they really explode. I still remember that face Yamato made in the Funimation Dub. That's more than enough to denounce Kaido as Yamato's Father

At least Judge didn't decide to kill Sanji at any point and neither Reiju or Sanji ever wanted to actually kill Judge, despite him being mostly responsible for their moms death. Chiffon actively participated in her own mothers assassination, Big Mom abused Chiffon for years, just cause she looked like Lola. When Sanji escaped, Judge ignored him until a use for him came up, anyone who leaves Big Mom pirates, her children included, will get killed.

It isn't know if Yassop left before his wife got sick, and to be fair Kaido killed Oden before he became Yamato's hero. And Judge did experiment on Sanji, but Sanji's mom took poison to prevent it, it just only worked on Sanji.

Honestly one piece dads is like a lot of black dads in America. When you don’t have a father figure you either adapt to your environment or come across the wrong influences. Luffy is a good pirate but a pirate at the end of the day. Like the police the world government will stereotype because you got a pirate flag. That’s why I’m glad Colby wanted to be a marine even after meeting luffy, because is shows that even a bad influence can make good men. They just go about it differently because they had no guidance.

Yasopp being near Gecko Island doesn’t mean anything; it could just be the next island they visited after Gecko Island.

This isn’t true. Pirates can’t just go wherever they want; they need permission from the crew and, most importantly, the captain. The only time Yasopp could have reasonably returned home was when he was on Dawn Island. But that would have been an incomplete pirate journey if he returned after just reaching the first island.
Also, Yasopp wasn’t on the island for very long. The Red-Haired Pirates don’t stay on any island for too long, like any pirate crew. It may have felt long for Luffy, but that doesn’t actually represent how long they were there-probably a month at most.
3. “He could have come to check on Usopp for a little while.”
If Yasopp returned for a short time, he would just have to endure the pain of leaving again. Leaving is hard, so why go through that pain twice? When a pirate returns to their home island, most people end their journey (though this isn’t always true-Oden is an exception).
Final Thoughts
I always see people label him as one of the worst dads in One Piece, and it pisses me off. It would be different if he didn’t care about his family’s opinion and just left without a word, but that’s not the case. He asked for their opinions and took their feelings into account. He became a pirate later in life, and people seem to hold that against him. But becoming a pirate is an opportunity you have to seize when it comes, and for Yasopp, that opportunity came later in life.
Lastly-and this might be a bit of a stretch, so if this point doesn’t resonate with you, I understand-I think people might be projecting their dislike of Ging from Hunter x Hunter onto Yasopp. But these two situations are completely different. You can dislike Ging as a father while still liking Yasopp. Ging didn’t care for his family and only wanted to meet Gon if he became a great Hunter. Yasopp, on the other hand, would have loved his son no matter what.

Yasopp isn't that bad a dad as its never stated that Bachina was sick when he set sail with Shanks!
Also for those who criticize him for not dropping by his home town when the village where Luffy met Shanks' crew is located in the same sea, you should remember that as an active pirate Yasopp couldn't without endangering his family as the WG & Marines have no problems going after a known pirate's family (sure Yasopp probably wasn't as well known at the time, but still he was a pirate and his family could be arrested or potentially killed for associating with him! I mean yes, he did leave his wife and child to go pirating with Shanks, but Usopp has never shown any sign of hating his dad for his decision to become a pirate and actually despised Kuro for insulting him! Also Luffy knew of Usopp cause Yasopp talked about his son alot! Mind you Yasopp has shown some reluctance to meet Usopp, though that could because he isn't sure how Usopp will react to their reunion! Still they got along well during their brief interaction (via their familial Observation Haki connection) in the non-canon One Piece Film: Red!
In the manga say he knews about Usopp's mom health state.
With all due respect, it's easier to check which bio dad doesn't svck. THE CONTENDERS:
- The kings of countries that Luffy saved. We don't have a lot on them. But like... Neptune doesn't svck and Riku Doldo works... Vivis dad is okay.
- Now Kyros... That one actually put work into saving his daughter. Lost an entire leg
- Oden is in a similar vein. He was a good man to look up to and dled protecting his men. So... Honorable daddy
- Bege is actively alive and present for his son's life. Now that's an achievement. Any big gestures? Not really, but that isn't important. He is there.

To give Yasopp the benefit of the doubt, chances are his wife got sick sometime after he left.
And it isn’t like he just didn’t care about Usopp either, Luffy said Yasopp talked about his son a lot while he was in Foosha village. It’s possible he doesn’t want to see his son probably because he feels shame for not being there when he needed him the most.
Yassop ain't that bad. His wife was the one who told him to leave.

I'd say worst one Big Mom. At least Judge didn't decide to kill Sanji at any point and neither Reiju or Sanji ever wanted to actually kill Judge, despite him being mostly responsible for their moms death. Chiffon actively participated in her own mothers assassination, Big Mom abused Chiffon for years, just cause she looked like Lola.
When Sanji escaped, Judge ignored him until a use for him came up, anyone who leaves Big Mom pirates, her children included, will get killed.

It isn't know if Yassop left before his wife got sick, and to be fair Kaido killed Oden before he became Yamato's hero. And Judge did experiment on Sanji, but Sanji's mom took poison to prevent it, it just only worked on Sanji.

Honestly one piece dads is like a lot of black dads in America. When you don’t have a father figure you either adapt to your environment or come across the wrong influences. Luffy is a good pirate but a pirate at the end of the day. Like the police the world government will stereotype because you got a pirate flag. That’s why I’m glad Colby wanted to be a marine even after meeting luffy, because is shows that even a bad influence can make good men. They just go about it differently because they had no guidance.

Not only was Germa66 not even out when Oda said that. Sanji clearly does not want to identify as Germa66 and so cut all ties. It's fairly obvious that he adopted the nationality, culture, style and everything *from zeff* his *Good Dad.*
