My Father drove a couple of these back during the late 60’s and 1970’s He said that it beat the hell out of the Cushman scooter. The winters here near Chicago during that time were challenging to say the least. My mail carriers here today is driving what looks like a beat to death mini van of some type.
Ah, the memories! I love it. I used to deliver mail during the summer. As a "casual carrier" or summer help, we got the worst. So it was a toss up for me between the 75' Jeep and the Chevette. I always took the Jeep! But man it was loud and no power steering, but I loved it. LLV was better though when I could grab one. Thanks Rick for another great video!
Great stuff Rick, I'll bet you enlightened allot of people who had no idea what and where the mail got delivered. I still remember the mail man carrying that bag and getting chased by dogs....lol
I knew a guy that had one of these as his daily driver. He said it was pretty cold in the winter. I had a VW Bus and a rag top Suzuki Samurai, both good in the snow, and both good for getting frostbite in the winter!!
As a kid I recall being shocked to learn these were two wheel drive (I had assumed that a Jeep would be 4WD). With the winters we have here, that certainly would have been useful. I drove a Jeep (non-mail version) with a metal roof, conversations were impossible above 15 MPH. Thank you as always, truly enjoy your content ~ Chuck

Another awesome presentation from Rick. What a Master of his craft.

Thank you for reviewing this dependable old work horse 👍🚙
Mail truck Yes!!!
My great-aunt drove one for the usps for a long time.
I'd love to have one of these or a Grumman
I'm guessing more than a few of these little cuties enjoyed a second life in countries where they drive on the "wrong" side of the road.
There were/are a couple of unrestored Zip vans for sale up the road. Not sure, but I think one’s a Ford and one might be an IH.
The answer is, its neither Ford nor IH ... Type in Studebaker zip van, in Goggle images, and discover those vans you're referring to 😁 👍
Whats the box under the left side of the windshield for?
Windshield wipers (motor)
