Back to the Future with a De Lorean!
The De Lorean is perhaps the most iconic car of the 1980s. Let's take a closer look at the car, and the man.

This is the Firebird Pontiac Didn't Want to Build!
Переглядів 37 тис.12 годин тому
This first year Pontiac Firebird is the car the company didn't want to build. They wanted something to compete with the Corvette. But in the end, the Firebird likely sold a lot more than a Corvette-cousin would have. As always keep me honest! Let me know if I've gotten something wrong or if you have a comment. Correction: 1:02 Falcon not Firebird! 3:46 Traction bar not torsion bar!

Back in the 60s, slot car racing was huge... until it wasn't. Then, in the 1980s, it tried a comeback.

Another fascinating tour of automotive history.
You are very good at presenting this type of material. Nicely done.
The headlights, in my opinion should have been rectangular or square, or at least had hideaways. The round ones don't work at all with the front grill. Thats a sad thing considering they did it differently for the rear
I'd still take Eleanor instead ot it though😊
De Lorean’s neighbor sounds like a real wankel.
Museum car, but those door gaps! OMG. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s a convertible, but holy, hell. That’s not “OK”.
Thank you for this and being accurate, few know the story of the Banshee, you missed one vital point, GM stole the Banshee and she became the 68 Stingray Vette, Delorean was livid. The Firebird was always the better car, better looking too. I own a 67 Firebird 400 Ram Air conv tribute.
The Pinto wagons? Gassers
That’s a very nice saved example of a Firebird convertible there in that museum. I owned for 29 years a 1978 Firebird Trans Am that I bought new. What was disappointing about the late 70’s vehicles that I learned later was that they were built with lower compression detuned engines in order to meet emissions. That 400 in that car actually had less horsepower than my current ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible with the Pentastar V6 engine, 200 vs 283 horsepower.
Although the First Gen Camaro is a decent looking car, the First Gen Firebird is a show stopper.
When I was in Highschool in the early/mid 70's , there was a kid that had a Firebird with a Camero front end on it... We called it the Cumbird...
Mustang was built on the fa,con chassis. Not firebird. I get it but please edit
I bought orig 67 convertible w blown up optional 400, dual scope 400 hood and that cool factory Pontiac tach . I ended up putting an L 78, 396 in there and rally rims from Camaro😂 . When I put this car up for sale with the blown pont Pontiac engine it sold in seconds. Should have never sold it lol
When I hear self professed experts make such glaring mistakes I turn the clip off. Seriously did this guy even watch his own video?
I owned a 1978 Trans Am, a black T-top identical to Bandit's Bird. Had a lot of fun with that car until baby #2 came along and Mama insisted on a four-door something for child seat access. Sold the T/A for more than I paid for it - a good thing in those days!
I’m a Mustang guy, I’m not into Camaros much but damn I love a first & second gen Firebird.
If u can buy it today it’s a 2024😊
You can buy a 2025 now. Cars are sold 6-3 months in advance.
That's not a 2025 mustang
It’s not 225k for 1300hp, it’s 225k for 1300hp and a warranty
Always wondered about the LaSalle. Thanks a Bunch.
New to your channel. Mesa Resident. Where is the "Martin" auto collection and are there others in the Valley worth visiting?
I owned and restored a 67fb 400 automatic hard top. A real head turner and good driving car. Also had a 69fb 400 4spd, with a couple suspension mods was very fun to drive. Was tempted to put a 428 in it but it was all original like my 67 so I kept it all original as well.
1300hp for $225k ………. Tell me you don’t know shit about cars 😂
I test drove a Camaro in 1973. It had touchy power brakes & over-powered steering with no feel of the road. The Firebird had more of a sports car feel. I Ended up buying a "74 Firebird Formula, and then a '76 Trans Am. In 1979 one of my girlfriends bought a black Firebird with T-top.
BAD SOUND - one channel DEAD
215 cu inch six?
mustang built on a FIREBIRD chassis wash your mouth FALCON
Still watching. Hopefully, I will catch up soon. What I've seen so far, you've nailed it as to interesting vehicles that had the chance to change automotive history. We have to wonder what could have been. Had Ford stayed the course, rather than react to the moment, what would a 2025 original concept Thunderbird be like?!?!?! The 1957 Thunderbird, IMO, maybe be the greatest styled 2-seater American sports car ever.
Rick, realizing you had a YT channel, I had to investigate further. No doubt, your public speaking content is invaluable for a very limited and competitive market. If you're trying to make a living, this is more like it. Understand, the masses like me are essentially brain-dead but love meaningless crap. I do have half a brain cell left and love stuff like this. If I felt I had anything to contribute to your further success, I would gladly do it, without question. You're a good man, Charlie Brown. 😉
When I saw the new Chevelle, I felt like throwing up…. A joke really…
Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick? Uh, excuse me, NO! I'd rather have a Pontiac. GM's most iconic brand sent to the scrapyard. Genius move, idiots.
$64 more that would be like $6000 more today…. Just a distinction…. Beautiful car.
71+ year old FUD here. Seat belts were available before 1965. Although not required by federal law until 1968, all U.S. states had laws requiring all new car to come with front seat lap belts by 1965. My 1965 Studebaker Commander has seat belts. So did my parents 1965 Dodge Coronet 440 which they purchased new off a dealer lot, not a special order. Also my grandparents’ 65 Ford Galaxy 500 and my uncle’s 1664 Ford Galaxy. Nash offered seat belts as an option in 1949. My father had aftermarket seat belts installed in our 1957 Ford in 1962. He got me into the habit of always wearing them when ever I got into a car. That kept me from being seriously injured when my 1970 Plymouth Duster was rear ended by a heavy pickup truck when I was driving to work one morning. FYI. Technically the only two engines available in the 1965 and 1966 Studebaker, the 194 cu. In. inline 6 cylinder and the 283 cu. in. V8 were not Chevy engines. They were built by McKinnon Industries Ltd. in St. Catherine’s, Ontario Canada which is not far from Hamilton, Ontario and very close to Niagara Falls. McKinnon became GM Canada in 1969. I have read some reports that the blocks for the Canadian built 283’s were somewhat different or heavier than the U.S. built versions but I can’t verify that.
Rick I was druellling over firebird but I had to settle for 67 442 oldsmobile
Thanks for the Firebird blast of nostalgia. Awesome. Had a 78 w/305 ya, flat cam lobes, lol. And 80 Tbars Esprite in dark dark blue had 3.8L Grand National special factory order 2nd hand…. Built a small block Chevy for it 333hp , most WS6 components. Sweeeet ride for a college dude. Ya man, best memories. Thanks again man! All the best.
Gotta love (or hate) the YT algorithm. Rick's one of my all-time favorite guys. From auction fame. At least that's how I know him. Rick, I had no idea you had a channel. Of course, I subscribed before even watching. And the channels I subscribe to are few and far between. Love the subject. In the early eighties, I bought a '67 Firebird convertible 'Flintsone edition' - no floor board. That's how bad I wanted one. Spent a ton on a Frankenstein restoration. I loved that car. My wife sold it for pennies on the dollar. Domestic relationship issues at the time. 😢
When these cars first came out, I was more in love with the firebird over the Camaro. I am still PO-ed at GM for Axing Pontiac.
Similar to the Camaro,,,,
The 67-69 Firebird 400 HO with a set of headers and the carb secondary stopper removed was one of the fastest hot rods you could get. Low 12s. Install a true roller timing chain and upgrade the distributor to HEI and you would beat 99% of any stock-engine hot rods you come across. I'm a GTO guy but these 400 birds are blazing fast. I like the 1968 the best.
Oh fuq off with this garbage. Headline is misleading. Pontiac built the f-body version. The concept car was what Chevy stole to become the C3. Anyone with an ounce of knowledge of GM history knows this. The morons in the comments section giving this video high praise is why the internet sucks.
Shits getting too crazy. Im out. Getting a van....down by the river.
I sold my 68 firebird 3 speed in the floor with a 350 under the hood for 1300.00 back about 1989. It was a hardtop.Everyone has a car they've sold that they'd like to have back, and that's mine. So much fun to drive.
And it's still just a Ford
For 225k on top of the car price I know other shops that will get you so much more power and everything else it would need
I went to the factory in 1967 and saw firebird being built.
Wasnt the Firebird, with the basic Camaro body but originally with the Pontiac OHC Six as its base engine, and the 326 2bbl V8 as the lowest output V8, until 1969, forced to take the Chevy 250 Six as its base engine for 1970 through 1977, and a 307 2 bbl Chevy V8 as the lowest V8, until you got the more "performance" Pontiac V8s (350, both 2 bbl and 4 bbl versions), and 400 and 455 Super Duty?
Desert Valley is a ripoff ...... you can find whole running driving cars on offerup cheaper period
That 1971 Torino Convertible is awesome
292 Ford V-8 was a solid boat anchor.
