Logitech was AFRAID to send me this webcam - Logitech StreamCam Review (vs C920 vs Brio vs a7sii)

- Well, an entire MONTH after release, here's my review of the Logitech StreamCam - Logitech's latest foray into the "streamer" space and latest webcam entry. But it looks... somewhat different than you might expect, and yet so familiar... Here's my Logitech StreamCam review along with a comparison to the Logitech C920, Logitech BRIO, and my A7s ii - because why not?

Logitech has sat on the throne of being the only webcam manufacturer making worthwhile webcams - and that's turned them into a sleeping giant. They don't seem to be innovating much, or at least, they're confused what that innovation means. The Logitech StreamCam Plus (which is the same thing as the normal StreamCam) supports 1080p up to 60fps - but only in MJPEG, and with no other "improvements" over the normal Logitech BRIO camera. There's "AI autofocus" but the focus range is far too shallow for that to be useful.
Logi Capture (or Logitech Capture) has seen some improvements, but it still has uselessly terrible audio quality and doesn't give you access to the manual webcam settings.
I'm just confused, guys. Really.
Thanks for watching!

Pst, you wanna see my review of the unnamed webcam? Sneaky sneak: ua-cam.com/video/__ipwng5TnE/v-deo.html
Pst you leaked teh name of the cam in the video
@@TehBrownie he puts the "unnamed webcam" on camera at 26:08. Whoops.
@@realbenactually pssssst, at 6:40 too!
@@realbenactually seen that too. Made me laugh
@@TehBrownie lolz
I love honest reviews like this where the reviewer hasn't been bought by the manufacturer
To everyone wondering about the "unnamed" 4k webcam, it is the Avermedia PW510, if you go to the Avermedia site they actually have a product page for it already. Also Alpha Gaming has a review up of it (the best webcam you can't buy). Looking forward to seeing Epos' review and comparisons since i know he will be extra thorough! :D
Keep an eye on this space tomorrow ;)
@@EposVox Def will do, I look forward to it!
That 4k cam is looking pretty fresh.
Do you know what is that 4k camera?
"Cheeto in the Brio" needs to be the title of your first mixtape.
Funny how little progress webcams have made over the years.
Even the ones built into laptops.
@Hallucinogenichusky Probably cause he is spoiled but uber nice dslr cameras? idk.
right? only logitech cares and even they kinda stopped (lack of competition I guess) but like, why cant a GoPro, that is already a tiny camera not just be hooked up and used as a webcam, why not add that extra functionality?
@@Decenium That's an excellent idea! GoPro is perfectly positioned company for entering this market. Already have a good name brand and make small compact cameras.
Phones are growing exponentially while webcams are, well.....
If you've bought any webcam for its microphone, reevaluate your life choices haha
Love the color and skin tones in the AVerMedia one
I like that unnamed 4k one I'm now waiting for that review
Evermedia 4k. He said it
Finally... after checking 8 reviews videos someone actually includes the captured audio. 08:11
I have had the Stream Cam for about 6 months. The stream cam is perfect for business applications in my opinion. I agree that it is likely not good for streaming. In a WebEx, Zoom, Teams, and so on, the Stream Cam's Auto Framing feature in Logitech Capture zooms in on the person and not the background. My monitor is at a greater distance than many of my peers and the stream cam's auto focus keeps me appropriately centered and filling the appropriate percentage of the image. When I move to focus on another monitor, the camera adjusts and keeps me centered. I especially like the ability to lean back and put my feet up during a particularly boring meeting. The Stream Cam zooms and focuses and I look like I am close to the desk paying full attention.
I wish the virtual background was controlled by the Logitech software. Using a virtual background with the auto framing, moving around locks the background and looks incredibly fake.
I am not impressed with any feature of the Stream Cam, beyond the narrow field of view and , it is no better than the built in camera in my 4 year old Dell laptop. I still would buy it for the Auto Framing and narrow field of view for my intended use: WebEx meetings.
I didn't notice the cat at the beginning the first time!
I can't be the only one who wishes there was a middle ground between $500 DSLR (plus $150 Camlink) and $150 webcams... like $200/$250, self contained, large lens for a bit of DOF. Doesn't need much more than 1080p30/60 and good light intake. Doesn't even need autofocus, make it static/prime lens functionality.
Dont and I repeat DONT GET A CSM LINK NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH BANDWITH!
This dude is obviosly kinda pissed because Logitech dint send him a review copy and had to buy one. The stream cam is really good.
Not super pissed, buying one wasn’t a big inconvenience. Just providing context of them breaking precedent. My review falls in line with most of the other reviews that came out about it.
well that does it. Just bought a C920 on Ebay right now. thank you for the review.
PS: you mentioned the brand of the "secret" camera a few times in this video. :P
Anyone else catch the glitch at 6:42? Literally like one frame, upper left corner. Great review Epos! I will probably stick with the C922 for now!
rendering problem from Premiere, Davinci, obs or the cam ? at 7:12 too
@@willowjiggy2339 probably hardware trying to keep up with 4 feeds.
I really like the image of the unnamed 4k webcam
The unknown webcam is extra crispy
Is that unnamed on the new upcoming AVermedia 4k webcam?
Keep an eye on this space tomorrow ;)
@@EposVox You actually tell it at some point in the video. :p
I am just looking into buying a new webcam and this has been SO helpful. Thank you.
Very nice title choice ;) I'm glad to see this video up. I need a new webcam and this is definitely going to help me choose.
4:46 Probs for Unreal Turnament 2004 - Best FPS ever made
I have the Brio and it is rubbish. I run a live model railway youtube show and it constantly freezes or drops off.
I cannot find a solution
I use Streamyard to push into UA-cam.
I like the Q2n4K for a webcam. USB powered, hdmi out. Anyhow, I just wanted to comment on what a great voice you have... born with a newcaster's voice. Hope you have looked into and are doing voice-overs, voice acting etc. People would kill for your voice.
Which webcam would be best for sit down vids for youtube? and does the Logitech software come with the camera?
I love how you talk about not being allowed to say what cam it is and then say "the avermedia cam"
C920 variants are also f/2.0 and focal distance of 3.67mm. C910 has f/2.0 with a focal distance of 4.3mm, with a slightly larger sensor - 1/2.3" for C910 vs 1/3" for C920
Thanks for the review. As we are in the middle of this COVID-19 environment, Logitech is laughing at us since people are paying way too much for webcams since the supply is almost gone. I am waiting...since a c920 is going for over $300 on Amazon...crazy! But, I wish Logitech would get rid of the microphones and focus on FOV, detachable cord like you said and a usb c to usb a adapter! I don’t understand! Maybe in a few months, webcams will come back down! One can hope!
I'd assume portrait streaming is for VR Streamers so you can get a full body view of what they are doing. Not seen any reviewer for this product even think of the usefulness with VR streaming
Really disappointing from Logitech. So still absolutely no reason to upgrade from a C920.
60 fps man. Better video quality, better colors. I really don't understand why everyone is shiting on Streamcam, but's the only one in it's price category that does 60fps. And much better colors than c920.
Can't wait for the Webcam alternatives video here. I have the C920 and elgato camlink 4k waiting for something to happen!
I was debating about the StreamCam and or Brio. After watching this the unnamed camera looks so much better to me.
Thanks for the great review and comparison, thanks to this I know to save my money and just use a C920
Great review, wondering what's the song playing at 10:50?
I needed a webcam asap and given the current circumstances I grabbed whatever I could as everywhere was sold out of every type of of webcam!! First webcam I found after a month of searching was the streamcam, bought it and really like it 👍🏻
It's so strange to me because I have the Streamcam and have a totally different stock color balance than you got. Mine looks quite normal/good with zero pink hue
Grats on the baby, buddy.
hi, what adapter usb we can find to have 60p on windows ? thanks
6:42 What happened to StreamCam here?
Oooooh i know what the unamed is :) lol i just saw it and worked with it in our labs at my work. Love AVERMEDIA .... heehee...but i have to say the StreamCam and the Brio are way better....but putting them up against the Sony A series or say a M series Canon (50 or 200) in CamLink mode or Even a GH or G85 Panasonic, is like not nice hahahaha just kidding. DSLR / Mirrorless just dominates...but then again, not designed as webcams... :) Love the video!! :) Keep it up!
Streamcam used to type c to usb 3.0 and go to 60 fps?
The red hue in the picture is certainly a problem.
I wonder if for some reason it's picking up the red hue from your red mic cable. I would physically pull back your box light a bit to reduce hot spots then use a white piece of poster board to bounce white light on the right /front of your face. It doesnt seem to be getting a good white balance. As I am sure you know, the best picture quality comes from setting good scene preparation before taking the shot. Metering, white balance etc. You have a dark environment with multi color lights and monitor light bathing the scene. Every cam is going to compensate differently for that. Some will give a washed out, greenish or yellow hue. Logitech Stream cam seems to like red. Overall it seems to produce a nice quality image aside from the red problem.
Neither pulling back nor bouncing are an option in my space.
Also yes the background is difficult - but the trend for streamers is to have even more harsh colored light than I have now, so it's a realistic test.
@@EposVox
I agree with you. it is a realistic test as most people want something they can just plug and play with a few modest tweaks. No web cam in my opinion can deliver that without some sort of compromise. I think you have better control with your Sony camera.
Great, now there are FOUR Epos's!
This is getting out of hand!
hahaha
Please!!!!! Answer my question!!!!!! I got this camera for $71 brand new at gamestop, i have great video cameras but i want a webcam is this worth what i paid??????
I got Logitech StreamCam for like 109$ plus C-type adapter. Idk for the price that I got it I am really happy ;D
I really just use the C920 and the CAM LINK with an old NEX-7 cropped so you don't see any of the UI elements. Logitech seems to be trying or at least throwing things out there, but really I've never seen a great reason to upgrade from the C920.
Yo dish out the name of that 4k webcam lol. Don't keep us hanging :P EDIT: not the avermedia 4k webcam is it? EDIT2: 23:20 ez, it is the avermedia!
Teehee full video tomorrow
yeah it shown and I don't know if it was s slip but @6:38 he calls it out
@@S0L1DUS1 Good ears!
Philip Chan definitely interested to hear what vox has to say about the avermedia. Harris wasn’t too happy about it so it should be interesting to see Vox’s point of view
The unnamed 4K webcam is an Avermedia PW510
It's on their website and has been for a little while now, I seen it on the site a week or 2 ago so not too sure why its under NDA (thats if it is under an NDA)
It's on the website but not available to buy anywhere yet
Keep an eye on this space tomorrow ;)
hello,
I want to use this camera for freehand drawing.
when I set StreamCam parallel to the horizontal plane, on the monitor the image starts to turn upside down alternately, without being able to stop it.
do you have an idea how can i stop it?
thanks
I bought a Streamcam because of the current c920 shortage and they were currently the same price. My problem is that my 2015 Macbook Pro doesn't have a USB-C port and I'm struggling to find an adapter that would be able to do the job here. Hopefully there is a kind sole around the comment section who can point me in the direction of an adapter that would make this work for me.
Halo background FTW!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently bought a StreamCam, and, comparing it to the C920, it’s all blurry. I’ve played with the settings and still no luck. Anybody else having this issue?
Logitech may own streamlabs but xsplit is a gold sponsor of the OBS project...
I can see why Logitech wouldn't send you the cam, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. LOL. Your general response to the product is "not impressed!", which I appreciate. Thanks to your honest review, I'll be avoiding this camera. Maybe a Brio in the future, until something more innovative comes along.
I have a c922 and it's too washed out. It can't get the exposure right. What's the next upgrade I can do?
C920 holds up very well for new streamers. Have you tried a GoPro? Those seem to be popular now days and having a dual purpose camera would be nice.
As someone who seems very familiar with webcams and related devices, are you aware of any audio interfaces for a mac where you can control the audio latency to enable syncing with video on skype/zoom usage. This seems such a common issue that I am really surprised that it is not a more common feature. I was looking at getting an ATEM Mini as a capture device to use with my A7iii camera but I understand that will result in audio/video sync issues and as I understand it, the ATEM Mini, despite having Audio controls in software (fairlight), it does not allow tweaking the latency to sync audio (either via HDMI camera input or an external Mic). I am aware of a solution using some software called Audio Hijack and Loopback, but this is way too expensive.
Well, a year later I need a Webcam for home office and c9xx are overpriced or out of stock in my country, brio is like 220 when is in stock, guess steam cam is the best option for me since is the only I can get fast and close to msrp
Keyboards and mice are the only things I buy from Logitech, and even with those I've had quality issue more than once, I keep buying Logitech keyboards and mice because I think that's the one thing they are actually good at making.
How did you do to make the logitech lws280 software to work with a non-logitech webcam?
I was stupid enough to buy this because I thought this was similar to elgato's facecam (not the pro, that came out later). TO be fair, I did get it for 75€, which is much less than the usual 150€ price for this thing (and elgato's products never go this low lol). It served well, 60fps is noticeable even if the rest is not great, but I will be happy when I replace it for a proper digital camera (especially after this review :D )
I need webcam that has field of view settings that are more narrow - not wide screen - to frame me when I am recording video or livestreaming for video converencing and making Utube videos
any suggestions
I need portrait mode on the streamcam but I am having trouble finding out if it can stream at 1080x1920. The Logi capture virtual camera with my Brio tops out at 720p (not advertised that way). I'd pay for 1080x1920 in a heartbeat.
Has anyone tried hooking it up to a usb c phone to test it?
I manged to snag one of these for 50% off about $120 US (products in Australia are always a bit more expensive compared to the US), so at that price it seems a bit more reasonable. At the MSRP, it seems overpriced for the features.
I have a Logitech Brio but I can't get it to work on my computer. After a windows update, it stopped working. Any help would be great.
Color on my Streamcam is better than my Brio. Hate the Brios orange cheeta coloring. But Streamcam USB C is a dealbreaker damages the cable, and your done. And the USB C connector is weak. I'm my 4th camera under warranty. With a detachable cable, it could be a good option. Get a C920, C920 or just use a camera with a capture card.
Audio is bad but any condenser mic a few feet away will be terrible. Get an ATRR2100x-USB mic or a SM58 run through a USB interface.
Actually at 1:32 it is clearly visible that Streamcam gave much better image than Brio, isn’t it?
Thank you, this was extremely helpful. I'm going to go with a 920; the extra $$$ to buy the StreamCam doesn't seem worth it for my needs. When it really counts, I can use my Sony RX100m6 as a webcam with a $25 generic HDMI-USB converter I purchased, which works great and doesn't require any special software.
I came here for the cat cameo.
It's sad these companies clearly do 0 research before making a piece of hardware. We can only hope that one day a company makes a webcam that is actually what we need. Do you have any fixes for the distance focus thing? Even on manual focus, I'm quite far from my webcam (C920) so everything is just blurred. I even considered giving my webcam glasses to see further away, but I recon that will take from the quality.
Just on initial viewing, the "unnamed" cam looks WAY better? Just me, or..?
I've been waiting on the unamed webcam to release. ☹️
what would cause this webcam's recorded video in capture keep flashing/jumping and why does the camera seem to intermittently auto focus for no apparent reason
Nice in-depth video, thanks!
I'm guessing they've pushed Brio updates since then. Mine looks more natural like the other cameras in this video.
Logitech needs to sort their software or people will move to competitors. Or simply will create a competitor.
Keep an eye on this space tomorrow ;)
@@EposVox I have logitech powerplay, g703, g935, 2 logitech brios and circle 2, the software for all of them is glitchy as hell. Since circle 2 camera relies on software, sometimes it does not even work randomly.
I sure the entire Logitech organisation must have been shaking with fear over this one channel revealing their big, dark secrets. 🤦🏼♂️
You need to upgrade to the Sony A7R IV it's a way more powerful camera and it would give you way better video quality.
@26:27 you mention "this" camera, which one are you referring to?
What lens do you use for the Sony? =)
Congrats on the Baby Shower!
I always wanted my own kids. That is one regret I've made.
...also, CAT!
Thanks for this test. The real shocker was how poor the A7S2 looks considering that it's WAY more expensive than webcams. If the White Balance were adjustable in the Brio, by far IMO would be the best. Is it? No Stream Cam for me. What's the "unnamed" camera? I especially liked the audio quality of the C920.
that brio one looks amazing
What kind of mount are you using for the Brio? Thanks.
i like the unnamed 4k cam, which cam is that ? can u give me plz the amazon link, thx
I just needed a max zoom comparison, as that's something I'm looking to compare. My distance is on the "far" side.
It's all digital zoom so you could just crop in as much as you want and it'd be the same
Is the Streamcam compatible in GHUB too?
Is that an RE-20 you are using on this vid? You need to pull out some low mids, the mic sounds dead, which is kinda an RE-20 thing
I heard and read about the Logitech c921 awhile back and now I went to order it but it is gone! I can't find a trace of it anywhere
Nice! 😳 Just opened the box, but not used it yet. It was £75, so I’ll give it a try…..
Logitech is the Intel of webcams, refreshing their old $hit and calling it new $hit, LOL!
they have like 90% market share probably
Well they DO make excellent products. Their headsets, and mice and VERY hard to beat. They take a licking and keep on ticking. I have been using a MX Performance mouse for over a decade and and no problems. Also am using the ORIGINAL G15 keyboard ( the blue light one is the original ) and no issues with that either.
I am amazed that You still get artifacts... I mean did Logitech do nothing to get rid of that in the last 10 years???
Love your channel! Subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing!
I want to buy the Unnamed! do you know where?
the cam have jumped in prices!!
6:41 the stream cam flickered for a sec
The Avermedia on top right looks best to me.
I want the unnamed camera.. link please..keep us informed
I have looked up the Sony A7SII and it's not a webcam. It's a actually camera. Why did you put that in there?
Because the next step (which many have already taken) past these $200 webcams are using “real cameras” with capture cards as webcams and it’s the contextually relevant point of comparison
portrait would probably be great for people who stream old games.
