I just love the Gold Coast / Surfers🚇Paradise Trams / G:Link from Broadbeach South 2 Helensvale Station via Surfers Cavill Ave & Southport - it was a nice sunny day the day I visited from the Sunshine Coast 2 watch an Aussie Rules match @ Metricon Carrara Stadium (Essendon Bombers - vs- Gold Coast Suns) - pity that the proposed Sunshine Coast Stage 1 Light Rail (Maroochydore - Mooloolaba) of the eventual Maroochydore -Caloundra route has met with some strong local vested interest opposition from the business owners, exclusive apartment owners & surfers @ Alexandra Headlands (that the light rail proposal passes thru) - !!! - Don (Wingco) P.

Thank you so much for your excellent comments Don. It’s so nice to hear from people who are supportive of light rail and I agree, I think the Gold Coast System is excellent. I wasn’t aware that they were trying to get a tram through to the Sunny Coast, although I personally think it’s a brilliant idea. Getting to anywhere on that coast by public transport is currently a nightmare, requiring a bus link from the inland rail line. I would have thought hat business (especially tourism operators) would be in complete support, so it’s really surprising that it’s being knocked back.

Re : Sunshine Coast Light Rail - Council pushing hard 4 the light rail (& I support it) but there seems 2 b a lobby from Alex Headland businesses concerned that the light rail will "cut the beach off from the suburb / apartments & prevent their customers parking their cars right outside their businesses" - !!! - The secondary non-argument against Sunny Cst Light Rail seems 2 b currently "We live in true paradise We Don't Want 2 Become the Gold Coast - spreading fears that the Council push 4 the Light Rail will b the start of a Massive Wall of Skyscrapers marring our coastline - !!! - Don (Wingco) P.

@@donpaterson9159 Interesting arguments eh Don (or non-arguments as you put it!)? Couldn’t the council reassure the locals that tall buildings won’t be allowed? And wouldn’t a well patronised light rail mean traffic problem were alleviated? I remember visiting Mooloolaba on a public holiday some years ago and it was impossible to find a park. I’d have much rather ridden a tram there and back. Mind you, some people are just inherently anti public transport. Here in Townsville, bus usage in minimal. I think we’re the only ‘major(ish)’ airport I know that doesn’t have a public bus service to and from the city (the nearest stop is almost a km away!) let alone a tram. Yet there’s a railway line that passes right past the end of the runway that only hosts four trains a day!! And that line goes right into the city, although it’s been cut off from the old station in the city centre. It would be so easy to lay a spur to the airport and relay the tracks down to the city centre and over the still standing bridge straight to our post new stadium, and put trams on it. But there’s little to zero public support for such a scheme, meaning that visiting fans have to use taxis and ubers to and from the airport.

Re : Sunny Cst & Townsville - thank u 4 Ur interesting insights on similar issues in Townsville - !! - I think here on d Sunny Cst it is mainly a bazookas @ 40 paces situation between the Pro-Development Lobbies (or Council & Mayor & His Councillors) FOR Light Rail vs Anti-Development Lobbies (most likely with the Noosa Parks Assoc & similar Greenie groups & Surfies & some store-owners) Agenst light rail - It's sure brewing up a v malicious cantankerous storm down here - !!! - As sum1 dependant on public transport 2 get places I sure hope d Light Rail gets d "Yes - !!" wen all is said & done - !! - I noticed how appreciative the elderly & pensioners were & r on d Gold Coast G:Link Light Rail 4 ease of access, safety & user-friendliness - !!! - Don (Wingco) P.
