There are so many little details thrown in there like Tom being unable to refer to the actual name of the location due to UA-cam censors. This is masterful writing we're witnessing here.
AI isn't this clever. It needs to be given an outline, told exactly what to say, all the cleverness and humor will be supplied by you, write your own funny parts word for word, but with a little patience you'll get something you can edit or completely rewrite into something this good. All it's really giving you is something randomly generated that IT can't detect as randomly generated when it scans it back over. It really struggles with nuance and cadence and will plagiarize whatever you feed it instead of properly rewriting it to something completely different.@@galacticboy2009
The sign is a subtle joke. The shop is called "Sneed's Feed & Seed", where feed and seed both end in the sound "-eed", thus rhyming with the name of the owner, Sneed. The sign says that the shop was "Formerly Chuck's", implying that the two words beginning with "F" and "S" would have ended with "-uck", rhyming with "Chuck". So, when Chuck owned the shop, it would have been called "Chuck's Feeduck and Seeduck".
The mannerisms are pretty good (He has a very distinct rhythm and plosive sounds) but the overall accent is actually pretty off. As tom has said a few times he has a (IMO fairly uneasy) transatlantic accent at times, this ends up with a quite posh "Hooray Henry"-esque RP.
It's probably because most of þe commenters are Americans or oþer non-brits who aren't as familiar wiþ þe accent differences over here so þey sound more or less similar to þem. Still, I agree, it isn't a convincing Tom Scott due to þe accent.
The AI only maps the tone of one voice onto another voice recording. It doesn't change the accent or inflection, so it doesn't sound good unless the person is already doing a Tom Scott impression. In this case it's not very convincing
>Nobody knows anything about the former owner >Literally sits the whole day outside the shop bullying city slickers Scott should just really improve his research smh
AI Tom Scott has a different accent which gives it away. This accent is clearer to understand, which leads me to believe it's easier for contemporary AI to learn from clear audio just like it is easier for humans to learn a new language when listening to proper, adequately paced speech. I wonder if this is also something AI will eventually overcome and be able to learn from literally any audio data.
The AI just maps the tone of one voice onto another voice recording, it doesn't change the accent. That's why AI Kanye covers of UK drill songs have him rap in a London accent The person who made this video is a posh southerner, whereas Tom is slightly northern. So this is how Tom would sound if he spoke in a more posh accent
"Clearer to understand" is subjective. More accurate would be that that accent is more standard and well known, which is more likely to have more data for the AI to be trained on. It's only "clearer" to us because it is more standard and maybe because it uses less sound reductions, but the AI doesn't know that
Im convinced the comments are from people who aren't used to English accents. This doesn't sound like Tom Scott, it sounds like a generic English accent.
@@ZestyLemonSauce thank you I've taken to that software like moth to a flame.... I'm really disappointed just how expensive it gets. I would kill for speech to speech synthesis. This has been the only thing that can make my own voice sound good
Aside from some minor noticeable artifacting this is actually a good recreation of Tom Scott's speech patterns and excited mannerisms. Very nicely done. Although, as with all of these AI Tom Scott videos you would have to ask why Tom Scott is reporting on this. It's not exactly on brand for him ;). But then again, most people don't stop to ask questions like that so maybe that is what makes it a bit scary ;).
I can see why many are confused so let me explain. Sneed rhymes with feed and seed, all of which end with -eed. therefore if you were to apply this rule to Chuck's you'll find that the original name was Chuck's feed and seed.
It's weird how all of the people who are trying to explain it won't say "Chuck's fuck and suck" like they're afraid to say it. It's only a proper explanation if you actually say it
If you listen closely there are moments where the A.I. voice stops TO BREATHE. You can hear it mimicking the way humans often inhale right before speaking at length which is both impressive and terrifying.
According to a former(ly Chuck's) camera operator of Tom's: The reason no video exists for this clip, is that it was one of the lone few which Tom simply could not complete in a single take. Again, according to hearsay from the (ostensibly scorned) camera operator, Tom kept "devolving into uncharacteristically racist and transphobic tirades, disgressing from the subject of the video". What you hear is - supposedly - a clever splicing-together of several different takes, cut together in such a way that the aforementioned "rants" are absent. Is any of this true? Well, you just lost the game, that's all I really know for sure.
Why on earth are people saying the AI voice is good? It doesn't sound like Tom. For a start, the accent is far too strong. It sounds like the queen's English, which Tom certainly doesn't do. The inflection and tones are very off too.
It took me almost the entire video to realize what the old name was, if that was just a passingover shot in the show i would have never gotten it. Thats a clever joke
Why are there so many comments saying how good the voice is? It sounds human, but it barely sounds like Tom Scott, just generic. I'm amazed by the progress that AI has made, but I doubt I would've guessed this was Tom Scott if it wasn't for the writing style. Not a knock against the creator of course.
