Please do an update.. It should look pretty spectacular now.. I´m thinking of this technique to make living house, so.... I´d love to know how this turned out..
Hi, I loved your video, you make it look really easy. I'm going to try it. If I wanted the same hedge but 8-10 feet, would I use longer willow whips to make a larger arch with appropriate stronger stick posts? Or would your dimensions still bring me to 8-10 ft in time . Thanks
Great video and beautiful fence ~ BRAVO ~ Forgive me for mentioning one notable exception to your excellent advice and instruction: I'm afraid you will SO regret that landscape cloth which will be a real bugger to deal with when the shallow roots of the willow grow through it and/or when you attempt to deal with the encroaching lawn and weeds. My friendly advice would be to get it out of there now before it becomes a problem. Look forward to seeing your up-dates!
I know what you mean about that - I have a love-hate relationship with this stuff! If it grows over it can be a pain in the backside. Having said that the soft sort (which he looks to be using) does degrade eventually, whereas the thick stuff is a nightmare if you plan on leaving it. Best used temporarily, e.g. between crops to suppress weeds for a few months.
I'm having a hard time getting a consistent answer on the best type of willow to use to build a fence like this. What is the common name for the type of willow you are using here?
I've had more luck with planting them in spring than in fall. It's very hot and humid where I live (about 29 degrees latitude) and this is probably Salix nigra.

I’m going to try growing willows since all it takes is Rudely shoving them in the ground 🤣 ...thanks
to know what mud is you have to live up our Welsh hillside..hahahah. What is that hand tool you were using? Thanks
I used a hammer and a piece of rebar to poke a hole in the ground. I think that's what you meant.
Hi. What kind of the willow. Interested i nwant to make at Thailand. But don't know them.

Cool
Denim Daddy was right there for the taking. Missed opportunity brother 😪
That music is great
What kind of willow idid u used?
I’m thinking I want to try this around my property... think it can keep a fox 🦊 out?
I don't think it can keep a fox out, but you could use it to hide "ugly" chicken wire fencing.
Great video. Any updates?
Do you have an update now that it's been a year? :)
Yes, and I am about to do the final one.
Best time of year to do this?
Spring, while the leaves are still off the plants.
@@tedsbackyard thank u
I live in California, i want to move to Arizona can I grow williw fences
What willow are you planting?
Black Willow Salix nigra. This spring, I want to try planting Salix purpurea as well.
Awsome video love the jokes
Can you recommend the type of willow I need to use?
This is wild black willow Salix nigra. I am going to try growing Salix purpurea soon. That is the species they use for basketmaking.
Sublime
Thanks! That's a huge compliment!
Update !
What time of year is best to do this? (I'm in UK)

What if I do the same but it doesn't grow?
Have you done this and they did not grow?
So just got to this channel....... So how is the pine tree going?
Could you provide an update please?
It's there: ua-cam.com/video/SfLAbb5hJyw/v-deo.html
will it eventually become a forest?
It eventually became a mess. My latest update video will be out before too long.
Looks great already! can I ask where you got the idea?
Thanks! Probably on the internet somewhere.
It would be interesting to see a time lapse
I'm working on a willow-based, teddyd30-style timelapse right now. But, I think it is a 3-5 year project. Stay tuned!
Anyone who uses the word "cruddy" is OK by me! Very useful video, thanks :)
