They may have lost some fans by not continuing w/the grunge thing..but they also gained a whole lot more by reinventing themselves and growing creatively. They're my favorite band, but there's no way I'd still be listening if they still played the same tired old music from the 90s. I prefer not to know what to expect next from them. Keeps it exciting.
I appreciate the upload very much outofphaze, I was almost thinking there wasn't an interview with mtv to air. Good looking out for such a awesome band! I do wish they would release straight lines on trl that would give them more of a push to us here in the states. I can't wait to see the guys in NY.
how is he not successful? 5 #1 albums, more awards than any other Australian band in history... i'd prefer they don't get too big in the States though because I like seeing them live in smaller venues.
I think he changes his voice up for each album to suit the style of the music. Because there's less rock on the new CD, he tones down his voice and uses different techniques of singing. Also, he smokes now so that has added a raspy feel to his voice. But if you check the shows from Lollapalooza, you'll hear that his voice is just as good as it was during the "Diorama" era.
Haha, I didn't realize this the first time through. It almost seems as if he's getting emotional, but I think that's just the way he talks. He's a very mellow person.
I miss silverchair! I've been a fan ever since they started but when the band broke up it felt like my life had ended. They've been a huge infuence to me growing up and until now to say the least but gotta move on...lol But honestly, I like how the band have evolved. Different eras, different styles and well...different looks for Daniel😂. When the band broke up it seems like for Daniel it was the start of his creative freedom. Maybe that's why he have been doing stuff randomly bec its just the way he is. Dan is a kind of artist that you can't just let him sit and do the same thing over and over again. He always wanted to learn something new on which he did and succeeded. I hate the fact that I actually understand him. For thinking that silverchair is a thing of his past, a childhood memories full of angst that he grew up with and have been doing for almost half of his life. Not that he hated it but he has to move on from it. He's just being 💯 real but sadly some of the ex-fans and purist don't understand.🤷🏻♀️ I remember Josh Wakely (Beat Bugs/My mind's own melody) had said, Johns is a musical genius and he is a really great leader and really instictive about people. Because Dan is so fearless about work and he lifts everyone around him. That's why maybe till now even if I'm not a fan of his front image (that majority of us were most focused on), deep inside, the real Daniel that I chose to understand is more deep so I will still support him 💯. Not because of his obviosuly gorgeous look all throughout 😂 but because of his artistry.👌🏼🔥 I will always say he is a f*ckin virtuoso!🙌🏻
aight. so i keep reading "daniel is on drugs...daniel + drugs". please people how do you know he is on drugs? maybe he does talk slow? or seems stoned? but other than anti-depressants, do you people really think he was on coke or heroin? post some links. btw, do you think that his voice really has gotten worse? and if so, why?
wow does he ever stop twitching? i mean the guy was great, and theyre totally awesome, but sit on your hands or something, makes people think hes on something.
If you see any interview from the very beginning he's always scratched his head, touched his eyes, or something, he never stands still and it's because of his anxiety.
Well he still looked like Daniel Johns, now he looks like some random douche bag, which doesn't really matter, it's the music that counts, but Diorama was way WAY better than YM.
I could just listen to his voice forever :) ah happy.

LOL Daniel once said that he hates doing interviews by himself cuz he gets really nervous. He's VERY SHY.
Wish Silverchair would come back.
Great interview! Thanks so much for putting it up.

Kelly Lane Watch/listen to Emotion Sickness Melbourne Park 1999 compared with Emotion Sicknesd during the Young Modern era. Huge difference.
Wow the fidgeting isn't a big deal some people just do it
He doesnt have to be on drugs
Specifically type in "Silverchair- Without You @ Lollapalooza" and you'll hear a great example of how beautiful his voice still is.

HungarianMafioso actually he’s super nervous, he just sounds “ mellow “ because he speaks with a soft voice
:O he loves brian eno? legend
He seems soooo nervous. ;___; Poor thing!
UniQueLyEviL Anxiety. Some people get more anxious talking about personal stuff.Especially if they already have anxiety.

@TheSmokingCrows beautiful sentiment! I have to say I feel the same way, but selfishly I still want more neon ballroomesque music
all i see is same ol fidgety dan. it's just his nerves.
oh my god, he looks like an actual man now
*sigh* ... silverchair(1995-1999)RIP
u ever notice how he scrathes his arms whenever he has to speak in almost ALL interviews..lol
katmun2 nervous tick
Anxiety and anxiousness
the old silverchair is much much better, i feel sorry for their new album
He looked hotter during the Diorama era :(
I just knew cause I do the same exact thing and my father thinks I need help. It's just a habit is all.

he's admitted that he used pot to help write his albums...to break down the mental barrier
because it's 2008 now and not 1997
why would he want to make the same kind of music the rest of his life? how boring is that?!
Damn... here I am in 2021.
Almost 10 years? Try like 13 lol. Thanks outofphaze.
They sound like Coldplay now. I don't hate it, but it's clear that they have evolved.
wow does he ever stop twitching? i mean the guy was great, and theyre totally awesome, but sit on your hands or something, makes people think hes on something.
Je551maca he had crippling anxiety and agoraphobia at least he brave enough to sit thru this interview by himself
If you see any interview from the very beginning he's always scratched his head, touched his eyes, or something, he never stands still and it's because of his anxiety.
write some more Grunge songs like pure massacre and israels son
too bad he's older. he was so sexy even though he was so thin.
bahhahahahahahaahhaa
he should be called mumbles
Well he still looked like Daniel Johns, now he looks like some random douche bag, which doesn't really matter, it's the music that counts, but Diorama was way WAY better than YM.
what the fuck is that??????
He should try to speak english...
He looks like a gay Spanish swordfighter.
See Daniel Johns now? This is what happens when you spend too much time hanging out with George Micheal and Justin Timberlake.
