Demilich is an acquired taste, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, the notes are in no way shape or form 'random'. That's an argument I'd expect from someone unaccustomed to the genre...the riffing is very unique here, and the only comparably bold approach I can think of would be Gorgut's Obscura, though they sound nothing alike.
You see your bowels in the air approaching the ceiling like tentacles Dying like your father when he was young Flying out of this world to another land...
This album isn't overrated at all, it's an absolute masterpiece of progressive death metal. The "uniqueness" you describe is exactly why it's so good-- it succeeds at creating an ominous, horrifying atmosphere of evil, as all great death metal does, yet bears no aesthetic relation to any other artist. Other albums, like Blessed Are the Sick, the Red in the Sky is Ours and Obscura are equal to it, but not better. Truly one of the most unique death metal bands, such a shame they broke up.
The whole sound is unique, and even the boldest imitators, ranging from Chthe'ilist and Blood Incantation (Which, by the way, are amazing bands) to Biolich can't grasp that something Demilich has that make everything sound so fluid and adequate. It is unlikely this album is ever surpassed again, even by Demilich itself. At least for this kind of metal.
@aaszx1 nocturnus - the key and thresholds albums, pestilence later albums, cynic demos in a way, dragon (fallen angel album from poland), ripping corpse, revenant...though each one has a different style, dunno if it will fit you but all are unique
@ThrashMetalForces Don't you think the vocals enhance the atmosphere? I'd say the strange vocals make the alien feel of the music even stronger. Regular metal vocals would ruin that effect.
Actually, alot of death metal is indeed very technical. There are alot of other bands out there that have a very strong jazz and classical influence in their music. You can't just judge on something that you don't prefer, and mindless you say? Yeah I'm sure there are death metal fans out there that may seem that way to you, but not ALL death metal is like that. Your statement is just a sour opinion, not a fact.
Well that comment sure sounded like you were; it's just insulting to hear that coming from other people that aren't particularly interested in death metal because not ALL of us are mindless and talentless. I love death metal all the way but I can see where you would get that impression. But that would be like me saying that ALL country songs are just depressing and boring; it's too much of an assumption. Well anyways, I understand your point now and it seems that you understand mine too, peace..
Still want to get into this... to understand why is this band so overrated... Am I missing something? I love death metal (Death Congregation, Ulcerate, Immolation, Death, Gorguts, Bolt Thrower and more) but I just fail to see how this is good, or masterpiece. All I can hear is decent drumming, unique vocals and horrible random-notes-playing-over-and-over-again guitars and bass... Oh my...
There isnt another album like this in existence, there have been many imitations (Cthe'ilist) that have failed to meet the immense alien sound that this album gives off, the closest other band i can think of that does this as well as Demilich is Timeghoul, and even then they only released 2 demos

They are still around playing live, just have no intentions of recording new material

Best song title ever.
awesome band. the vocals are lawltastic
change up the letters, and you get "the spine"
no lyrics here
happilydisgusted the album title is nespithe, -> ne spi the, -> the spi ne
@@deathmetal5156 he was referencing another track on the album that has an anagram title
actually, on the vinyl release it shows nespithe rearranged into "the penis", not "the spine"
god tier stuff
Amazing Death Metal album, and amazing song, favorite from this album.

This is probably the most out there band I've ever listened to. Their music isn't even from this dimension.
I wish I could do gutturals like this, amazing

i'm changing question, i'm looking for metal bands now which sound is so original and out of this world as demilich.

One major question......both Demilich and Archgoat are known to use this kind of low gurgled vocals......what is the technique to produce such vocals
Big neck
