    Just got it assembled yesterday just about a little over 2 hours. I will be spreading Kentucky blue grass and fertilizer tomorrow. You’re right why use a push spreader when I can sit on my ass listening to music.🤙🏽

    Great tips, sir! We just ordered the same spreader, so appreciate your input. Now I need to find a way to remotely open and close the spreader's feed gate, since I don't want to be losing product when I stop to check on the fill level. Thanks a ton.

      I've seen some use a pvc pipe rigged up. It is frustrating but otherwise a great spreader. Still works great! Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words!

    Thanks for the video. I found the adjustment lever difficult to operate while seated on my mower. That's not important when spreading seed but very important when using fertilizer or weed treatment.

      Aside from the assembly it's been a great tool to have. It has already saved us a ton of time.

    I am having trouble with mine. No matter what I am spreading I need help with clearing the material from the sides and as I get close to finishing, I have to stop about every 20 feet to brush the material to the center. Otherwise the product is good. I am thinking of going to a pull behind drop spreader so I won't have to keep stopping to brush the material to the center

      I wonder if there would be a way to make the agitator larger to help with that? Drop spreaders work good they just cover such a small area at a time.

      I saw a video once of a guy putting something on the top of auger part like a wire or something to help it feed better from the hopper. Sorry I don't have the link. Only time that happens to me is then the material clumps up and I just stir it with a stick.

    Thanks for the video. The fact that this doesn't have an auto-stop has me hesitant, but I'm happy to hear it has an edge accessory otherwise I was thinking of taking scrap plexiglass to make one. Do you still like using it?

    • @SixthDayRanch
      @SixthDayRanch  3 роки тому +1

      Glad to help. I love the plexiglass idea! Seems like it would be a simple mod. We've only really used it for overseeding our small pasture, but we've gotten great results. I'm interested to see how the larger granules do in this thing. I'll update if/when we try to use it for fertilizer.

    I have this spreader and a problem with when spreading fertilizer, it spreads more fertilizer on the right side than the left. Have you noticed this happening with yours?

    • @SixthDayRanch
      @SixthDayRanch  3 роки тому

      Ours spreads fairly even. Is it possible there's an obstruction somewhere?

    • @nperson
      @nperson 3 роки тому +1

      @@SixthDayRanch no obstruction. All broadcast spreaders favor one side. Numerous articles about it. This spreader seems to be worse than others I have used. Perhaps it is related to the type of fertilizer. I guess I’ll Just have to compensate for it.

  • @dennissmallwood9932

    I've purchased a couple of Agri fab products and each of them are a PIA to assemble....some need two people. Also You're not addressing how in hell you can reach the shut off lever from the seat of your tractor ??? No use having shut off capability/drop control if you can't reach it or it's unsafe to even try. If you stop and gate is open you just run a bunch of fertilizer onto the rotor and then when you start up it over doses ( burns ??) the immediate start up area. I'm looking for a spreader that has both a rotor and a gate that are remotely 12v controlled.

    • @SixthDayRanch

      I agree with you on all fronts. It is a pain and there is some waste due to having to get off the mower to adjust. I've seen some folks use pvc pipe to extend the lever to solve this. At the price point I'm not sure there's a better option out there. If you can/are willing to pay more I'm sure you could get a much nicer one with better features. Thanks for taking the time to give input I appreciate it! Have a great day!

    I think it would be a waste of time and money for me to buy one of these. I already have a walk behind push Scott's spreader that I can be very accurate with. If I had a really large lawn this would probably be good, but my lawn has too many turns and small areas. I would probably spend way too much time turning the thing on and off and trying to maneuver in tight spots. I might sweat a little bit and get a bit tired pushing my spreader around, but I can be much more accurate and precise with my spreading. Thanks for making the video.

    They need a way to be able to close it right before you stop. It’s probably easier on a lawn tractor than a ZTR. You’d just reach back there,...but you’re too far away on a ZTR.

      @@SixthDayRanch I’m seeing videos of guys installing electric actuators,...but haven’t seen any that could calibrate the flow rate. They’re all saying that they’re guessing, when it come to the application rate. They need to figure out a way to implement that wing nut stop, to control flow rate.

    To be totally honest - I had this exact spreader and it is junk compared to the Chapin brand
    of spreader. I'm not employed by Chapin I'm just trying to save you a lot of hassle and aggravation that the Agri-Fab will give you. The Chapin is a Cadillac compared to the Agri-Fab and I mean it's like night and day in everyway. I bought mine from Tractor Supply and they put it all together for you and it has ALL STEEL GEARS and not plastic. All TRUTH.
