So nice to see you guys bring along to all the oldest places which I never noticed or knew. Thank you so much guys 😊. A bird 🦅 poop on your hair… it’s sign of good luck. Glad you 'discovered' Taiping. More visitors should, but I like stepping off the tourist trail. As you say, one rarely encounters other western travelers while in town. I splurge on accommodation when visiting, but in fact the Novotel is only slightly more than US $30 per night for a near 5-star experience. And the hawker center you visited--Larut Matang, I believe--is my favorite in all of Malaysia. Can't wait for August!

Civilization started there from 788 BC and said to have the oldest iron ore smelting site in Southeast Asia, catering to trade between India, the Arab world and China. Peace 🙏

Chinese Mid-Autumn festival 2023 is just around the corner on September 29, 2023.
A symbol of unity, mooncakes are typically savoured with friends and family.
While traditional mooncakes are golden-brown and filled with lotus seed paste and sometimes cured duck egg yolks, popularised in the last few years are snow skin mooncakes, covered in a delicate skin made from glutinous rice flour.
Whether you prefer traditional varieties or unexpected flavour combinations, we have you covered with our complete round-up of where you can find the best mooncakes in town.

They sell those empty bags at Asian markets. You fill the bag with loose tea or coffee and drop it in a cup or pot to make hour own coffee. Beats hotel coffee. Or you can buy 2 in 1 (cream and coffee) or 3 in 1 (sugar, cream, coffee) sachets. They are pretty good too and better than hotel room coffee.
Moon ages come out in the fall for the festival. I like the one withbthe lotus paste, comes with egg yolks in it too (not a fan of the yolk).
We are heading to Malaysia next month. I thought we'd been everywhere, but never had desire to visit Taiping. Maybe this time?

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated in Chinese culture. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.[1] On this day, the Chinese believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of autumn.[2]
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of Chinese New Year. The history of the festival dates back over 3,000 years.[3][4] Similar festivals are celebrated by other cultures in East and Southeast Asia.
During the festival, lanterns of all size and shapes - which symbolize beacons that light people's path to prosperity and good fortune - are carried and displayed. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean, egg yolk, meat or lotus-seed paste, are traditionally eaten during this festival.[5][6][7] The Mid-Autumn Festival is based on the legend of Chang'e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.

You can find those "instant" coffee bags in supermarkets everywhere. Guess it is a thing in Singapore and Malaysia LOL. Doubt they use butter to roast though. Most of them use margarine. Most famous fried kway teow is the Penang version. Kway teow soup from Ipoh is very popular cos of their "spring water" said to use to make their kway teow and grow their bean sprouts.
That dark soy based noodle is called dry wanton mee with char siew. Char siew has some sweetness from molasses/honey/sugar perhaps all depends on how the vendor makes it😂Is boiled egg wanton noodles not pan fried.
Singapore has a Sun Yat Sen memorial hall. He is very popular in this part of the world.

Sun yat sen is a revolutionist in China against communist. He went to Taiwan. In penang island, there is a museum about him. He used penang as a place to plan his move in China and Taiwan.

You may have gotten some of your facts incorrectly. Sun Yat-sen is actually a revolutionist against Qing Dynasty, the Imperialism. He may have visited Taiwan but he surely stayed on and passed away in Beijing in 1925 long before China embraced Communism after Democracy failed to work there.

Great place where i belong but most of those needed places to be preserved are ignored, damaged , altered the origin. Like Railway station becomes food centres, century old rest house opposite primary king Edward school and hope the market opened after rebuild as original let the market operated as it is and hope not becoming like central market in KL becomes gift stalls etc. And there are many more....
