I was already laughing when the car was going GETUPGETUPGETUPGETUP, but then that loudass kookaburra sound effect started up, and THEN Billy started doing his HEY HEY HEY wardance, and THEN the car started going GETUPGETUP even faster. I don't know how you guys managed to keep it together. That was NO MERCY on my eardrums.
TV Tropes on the ridiculously large number of fatalities: "Each character had two to four unique finishing moves. All characters also had access to a communal pot of finishers, most of which involved stupid crap like falling DeLoreans or turning the loser into Whistler's Mother. There are also the Nudalities, one per character. The devs calculated the total number of fatalities by multiplying the communal finishers by the number of characters, giving a grossly inflated number."
His big was this communal pool because the match ain't adding up. If each character had four fatalities that's only 36. Even if the pool was 100 that would still add up to 900 fatalities. Yeah this game was full of shit.
You laugh now, but when your car begins shouting "GEGEGEGEGEGET UP AND FIGHTIGHT" you're looking at some pretty serious engine problems. Happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago and when he got up and fought, the mechanic used his expensive repair bill-ality.
I think they get the 2000+ number from multiplying each character's fatalities and each environment fatality by the combinations of characters possible in a fight. Or.. they could be outright lying.
Alright, it's about time devs create a kickstarter to finish/remake this game. I'd back it and disapprove of their choice of community manager any day.
This is why I love retsupurae. I started the video, and the first line, "trick or treat", already made me laugh out loud. Thank you, you magnificent bastards.
I gotta hand it to these people; Making a game entirely based on the thought "BABALITY WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS!" is pretty bold. And they stuck with it. 90% percent of development time was spent making up stupid silly shit. Until everybody got bored and abandoned the project I assume.
The reason why they had a DeLorean run over people in the "G-g-g-g-g-get up and fight!" fatality is that one of the produces/backers of this game was Bob Gale, who co-wrote and co-produced the Back to the Future movies.
Slightly interesting trivia: Truck is clearly supposed to be like Stone Cold Steve Austin; his tattoo is a snake, and Austin's nickname was The Texas Rattlesnake. After a fatality, Truck drinks a beer and crushes the can on his head; Austin was notorious for his beer guzzling and can crushing. Austin also often wore a black vest, blue jeans and athletic leg braces like Truck.
I love the intro screen to this game so much. Bald heavily tattooed middle-aged Asian man in what is clearly an adult diaper offers you a psychedelic bong.
Fun fact. Lyla Blue is Renee Hudson, the ex-wife of guitarist Slash. You'd think she'd have regrets about appearing in this game, but being in a game with best fighting game character ever Prism makes you regret nothing.
I think that's supposed to be the "Happy Thanksgiving" fatality. It wasn't supposed to hit the person who performed it, but the developers got such a laugh out of it that they left the bug alone.
I remember seeing this game in a magazine. It was just a tiny blurb with two equally tiny pictures. One was a nudality used on a female, and the other was the move from 11:06. I always wondered what in the fuck was going on in that second picture. Thank you Retsupurae, now I know just how awful it was.
That 2200 claim is made by multiplying the number of characters by the number of shared fatalities that every character can do, so the game has 2200 fatalities the same way Space Mutiny has special effects done by the same team that did Star Wars.
You guys need to do more of these bad MK clones from the 90s. Might I suggest Way of the Warrior on 3DO? (That one has the bonus of having White Zombie music for it's soundtrack)
Falcovsleon21 or the worst in the 3DO lineup: Shadow - War of Succession, which is infamous for a cheesy CGI intro, terrible MIDI music, and the godawful pre-fight lines (i.e. Gabriella's ''You were lucky I wasn't there that night! and now, your luck's run out!'')
I can't help but think that the random "wtf-alities" would better fit if this were some sort of Looney Tunes fighting game. Also I hope Retsupurae does Blood Storm.
The secret behind the over 2000 fatailites? They were bullshitting. See, each characters has a bunch of fatalities, and then there's lots of fatalities that every character can do. To get the inflated number, they took the global finishers and multiplied that by the number of characters.
Looking at this video, I realized that the last one featured the character that made the least sense. "Let's have an ice skater who wears her ice skates everywhere and give her super farting powers. Also...roses?"
"Okay, so for this one fatality, the player turns around and farts out plates of curry!" "Yeah, sounds pretty good, but also make it so the other player also farts out plates of curry, and then they both bounce around farting out plates of curry."
I wonder if anyone is going to start a kickstarter to get this game remade and fully finished, with the aforementioned 2196 fatalities actually included.....
i'm actually going to guess that the 2000+ fatalities are the combinations of fatalities and characters they can be performed on. Like, every single fatality a character can do, performed on every single character. For all characters. And they count them all individually.
Pelvic thrust-based fatalities are the best you guys let's program at least a dozen of them into the game! What about stripping them nude? Yeah we should put that in too! Uh, and how about racial humor, since we're crossing all the lines apparently? I love this brainstorming section! Like a rain dance victory pose & a scalping pose for Billy! Doitdoitdoit!
arcticfox04 who wouldn't like to perform a fatality which spawns the unholy love child of Barney and Figment (from Journey Into Imagination from Epcot)
This has to be the funniest set of Fatalities I've ewver seen, the game should hjave been released just for the laughs it would have got, I'm only glad the ROMs are out there so this classic can be enjoyed. Remeberr kids, don't let the pinball division design your video games. I mean, what's next, Microsoft getting the writers of Office to design a game?
I'll still stick by the comment I made in the previous video about the tattoos giving the characters power. This game: Cool concept, terrible execution.
not gonna lie, had this been released in arcades I would have put a quarter in it. Several quarters, even. That's more than I can say for Mortal Kombat.
After the video I looked up the game in TVTropes... you could say the entire duration of making the game was a drunk night out. No boundaries whatsoever.
Tired of being constantly surrounded by death and destruction, Spinal decided to become a rock star. Although nominated for a Grammy for his first album, Spinal still has trouble finding roles that have meat to them.
"It's your alternate universe self, Marty! The game he's playing is so bad the universe will collapse! We have to prevent the game from ever being made!"
Bob Gale who co-writed BTTF was actually the one who thought of making this game to begin with. He went to Data East Pinball (Now known as Stern Pinball) to get a fighting game of his ideas going, and it became a bit of a mess as expected.
TheDabeavis Well, even the best of writers have off days. We all make shit sometimes. This doesn't excuse the fact it's a bad game, but eh I can't hold it against the guy. I write as a hobby and looking back on my early stories I wrote I actually cringe at the shit. Laugh at it, but also cringe.
I think Billy is a reference to Billy Jack, a native American character played by the white Tom Laughlin in the increasingly-70s films 'Billy Jack', 'Trial of Billy Jack' and 'Billy Jack Goes To Washington'.
So I'm assuming the 2196 figure comes from the fact that all characters have all the same fatalities, aside from the character specific ones? Like the, "Eat Ship And Die!" one, spread across all the characters, is equal to 8 or so total fatalities even though its the same one for all characters.
I feel like having fatalities that don't involve the tattoos at all is a little silly, but then again -- let's take a look at those tattoo fatalities one more time, and decide which is more ridiculous, two-headed Barney hatching out of an egg or just grabbing somebody and stabbing them.
I was already laughing when the car was going GETUPGETUPGETUPGETUP, but then that loudass kookaburra sound effect started up, and THEN Billy started doing his HEY HEY HEY wardance, and THEN the car started going GETUPGETUP even faster. TV Tropes is such a stupid site filled with inane information. Why people take it so seriously I will never understand.
GEGEGEGEGEGET UP AND FIFIFIGHT
GGGGGGGGGGET UP AND FIGHT
More like repair-a-bill-ity.
I like how the turtle was huge for some reason but the polar bear was tiny.
I think they get the 2000+ number from multiplying each character's fatalities and each environment fatality by the combinations of characters possible in a fight.
Or.. they could be outright lying.
+Terumi Yūki Either that or they don't know basic mathematics.
For some reason that one seems a lot more likely.
I was thinking the same thing...
At least Tak was self-aware and full of regret over his dumb fatalities.
You are *very* easily amused if you actually thought that was funny. 🙄
Diabetus saying "It's..." like Michael Palin when the giant foot stomps down made my day.

God I love Billy's win animation.

This game's shit 'cause Stone Cold said so!
Maybe Stone Cold Steve Austin was based on Truck, since this game is from 1994 and Austin became Stone Cold in 1996.
All that was missing was flipping the bird.
Keegan
This game was developed by the same company that made Fighter’s History and Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty.
Steve Austin also used to shit out food and damage both him and his opponent, I think.
Man.. Billy's gone a long way since his paper route days...
I love the intro screen to this game so much. Bald heavily tattooed middle-aged Asian man in what is clearly an adult diaper offers you a psychedelic bong.
Tak just never seems to be happy with his finishing moves. "Dammit, dammit DAMMIT!"
I think he's just angry that he's still in Tattoo Assassins.
Fun fact. Lyla Blue is Renee Hudson, the ex-wife of guitarist Slash.
You'd think she'd have regrets about appearing in this game, but being in a game with best fighting game character ever Prism makes you regret nothing.
11:07 Looks like that really BACK fired on Truck.
I think that's supposed to be the "Happy Thanksgiving" fatality. It wasn't supposed to hit the person who performed it, but the developers got such a laugh out of it that they left the bug alone.
Shadow Hog In all honesty that was the best fatality in the whole video.
Definitive proof that Mortal Kombat is a harder formula to crack than most people give it credit for...
I thought the lipstick was a rocket and was seriously disappointed
A group of hooded figures are called the "Color Guard". Hooooo boy.
Half the nudalities looks like they've just been punched in the gonads.
the thing at 9:58 is actually kinda cool
Jaa du schaust retsupurae ^^ o/
I remember seeing this game in a magazine. It was just a tiny blurb with two equally tiny pictures. One was a nudality used on a female, and the other was the move from 11:06.
I always wondered what in the fuck was going on in that second picture. Thank you Retsupurae, now I know just how awful it was.
This is funnier if you imagine that the Billy in this game is actually billymc.
Alright, this convinced me. We need to do a kickstarter to finish and officially release tattoo assassins...
This is what Tim and Eric would have designed had they been commissioned for a Mortal Kombat game.
The stuff on plates that came out of that guys butt and hit both himself and the other guy.. I admit.. made me laugh and say "WTF!".
It could be a reference to making a pun of "Pu-pu platter".
Yea I think you are correct on that one. :P
CaptinTrips
It was probably one of their more crappy ideas.
Fartality
IT'S...
Tattoo Assassin's Flying Circus
I am legally changing my name to "Truck Jones".
Still has a better plot than Mortal Kombat.
pretty much
it's funny because it's true
But you gotta admit, Nightwolf was more culturally sensitive than BILLY.
RocMegamanX Hell, even T Hawk, who holds up his right hand and says "hau" after every match, is more culturally sensitive than Billy.
+SmiteSA Better than the new plot?
That 2200 claim is made by multiplying the number of characters by the number of shared fatalities that every character can do, so the game has 2200 fatalities the same way Space Mutiny has special effects done by the same team that did Star Wars.
"My day has been made"
"Go ahead, make my day"
I love this game, but I'm not sure whether or not I'm glad it exists...
Tak's actor must have pissed off someone in the art department, even by this game's standards his fatalities are just utterly ridiculous.
Very underrated gem
Good concept, awful game.
Well, we must admit, the many fatalities does add a lot of possibilities.
You guys need to do more of these bad MK clones from the 90s. Might I suggest Way of the Warrior on 3DO? (That one has the bonus of having White Zombie music for it's soundtrack)
I also suggest Survival Arts as well.
Or Kasumi Ninja?
OH! And also Rise Of The Robots
Falcovsleon21 or the worst in the 3DO lineup: Shadow - War of Succession, which is infamous for a cheesy CGI intro, terrible MIDI music, and the godawful pre-fight lines (i.e. Gabriella's ''You were lucky I wasn't there that night! and now, your luck's run out!'')
figment1988
They did that one.

The dreaded Emca corporation are at it again!
My favorite is Whistler's Mother: the Fatality.
I'm here after watching the last Angry Video Game Nerd Episode. Was intrigued to see all 2149 fatalities.
I don't know what to make a stupid comment about first, but the car fatality being a DeLorean is somehow entirely fitting.
KingOfElectricNinjas it is, because it's a reference to Bob Gale (who wrote the Back to the Future movies) who wrote the story for this game
I can't help but think that the random "wtf-alities" would better fit if this were some sort of Looney Tunes fighting game.

squirrels: about the same size as a polar bear

Another great video guys, but that wasn't actually 2200 fatalities.
Also 100 yen really isn't a lot of money.
"Okay, so for this one fatality, the player turns around and farts out plates of curry!"
"Yeah, sounds pretty good, but also make it so the other player also farts out plates of curry, and then they both bounce around farting out plates of curry."
tbf the plate farting one was pretty funny lol
I thought "Color Guard" was a thing they put in laundry detergent.
Dasyati or a military group who brings the American flag to most sporting events like the Super Bowl.
I waited for the whole video for Prizm.
10:43 God dammit, tonight is supposed to be TACO NIGHT!
I wonder if anyone is going to start a kickstarter to get this game remade and fully finished, with the aforementioned 2196 fatalities actually included.....
I just came to watch the native american dance
Truck would be my main.
His win pose is drinking beer and has a shotgun and farting for fatalities.
i'm actually going to guess that the 2000+ fatalities are the combinations of fatalities and characters they can be performed on. Like, every single fatality a character can do, performed on every single character. For all characters. And they count them all individually.
I think they didn't include Prizm's fatalities because it's literally impossible to lose to Prizm.
Guys, the old lady in the rocking chair is a reference to the painting "Whistler's Mother".
Mr. Bean totally ripped this game off

There's something really Uncanny Valley about photos of real people clothed in MS Paint outfits.

I still can't believe it took me five fucking years to find the Retsupurae Channel!
What the hell was I doing with my life?
Tak is my new favorite character after this video.
Mine too. He's clearly very angry with the game.
arcticfox04 who wouldn't like to perform a fatality which spawns the unholy love child of Barney and Figment (from Journey Into Imagination from Epcot)
Guys 100 stegosauri isn't a lot of HR Geeger from Switzerland, and that octopus isn't a squid, either.

I'll still stick by the comment I made in the previous video about the tattoos giving the characters power. This game: Cool concept, terrible execution.
The guy turning into a lady in a rocking chair got a genuine chuckle out of me.
took me a while but that was a figure skater as a fighter wasn't it? Seems an underused type of fighting character >.
smof1 yep. Of course, the story for Karla Keller is an obvious reference to Nancy Kerrigan.
"My day has been made" is likely a reference to Clint Eastwood.
As in "Go ahead, make my day."
2:01 why is the Apache tracker from nightvale in this game?
4:21
Betus loves that sound effect.
Can i get a loop of the food shitting fatality?
Some of those fatalities were pretty good in comparison to mortal kombat.
