I agree. Omega is a great athlete but I dont think he is that great. Some wrestlers in Japan got a good match out of him and I really enjoyed his match w/ jericho. But everything else isn't memorable. I once saw him get tagged in during a tag match, punch his opponent, then tag back out the nxt second!! Talk abt lazy......
Well, because up until he started so aggressively dying on the hill for AEW at all times, he kind of was. A 5 star rating was thought highly of, his reporting, even now, is usually pretty spot on, his historical knowledge is near encyclopedic. Then he gave Omega a 6 some star match and he just gets worse and worse every time he opens his mouth. He earned a lot of goodwill and built a major platform, now, unfortunately, he is misusing it to piss all over what wrestling should be by praising the sorry state it currently is in.

Given who voted him in and who didn’t, it proved my point pretty well.

Funny how Meltzer constantly dismisses Jim's views on modern wrestling, saying he's out of touch or not with the times, and because of that no one should really listen to him. But then he keeps harping on things Jim says, bringing attention to them. Why would he care what Jim says if he's so "out of touch" or "working" people as a gimmick (which has also been alleged by several personalities, not sure if Meltzer was one of them)?
Disappointment. Dave feels that he has "evolved" with wrestling and that Jim is stuck in the past. Meltzer seems very disappointed that Jim is dismissed by most, when he's one of the most brilliant wrestling minds out there, because he stands his ground on certain concepts. If Jim could "evolve" the way Dave has, his legacy would be set and he could have a job anywhere. But Dave also doesn't understand that Cornette doesn't care about any of that. The guy just wants to make money and reminisce on the sport he use to love. He has no desire to play the game anymore.

Jim Cornette is the star of the show, it's hard to find anyone smarter or more articulate in wrestling history. But Brian steers the ship on these shows. His research is on point, and although like most, he doesn't agree with all of Corny's opinions, he doesn't combat them in a confrontational or condescending manner. It's clear that they're friends off the air. You can't be a scrub if you want to talk wrestling with Cornette, he'd eat you alive.
Tony Khan owns Meltzer now, Vince never gave him access, Bischoff has said on his podcast with Conrad that when he first took control at WCW that he tried to make a working relationship with him but he realised that it was a terrible idea after a short period of time after Meltzer went into business for himself. Dave is a mark fanboy, he only likes NJPW because of the level of access he had there and now in AEW he's actively on Tony Khan's payroll he is 100% fake news, I don't think Meltzer gives a damn about his "integrity" anymore and is just happy being behind the scenes, getting mudshow wannabes kissing his backside and stroking his ego, Meltzer is deluded enough to think he is now "one of the boys" and to him that is more valuable than anything. #MabelWasTheThirdMan

Omega is already being overshadowed by a lot of wrestlers in aew and the show isn't even two years old yet. Even pockets had a better push in 2020 than omega.
Here's the thing - NOTHING Dave is a part of is legitimate. He runs a wrestling gossip site and publication. He calls himself a journalist, but rarely fact checks things or asks for comments from people who are the subject of stories. He reports "news", but puts his own opinions into it to influence how his readers / followers feel about a certain subject. He doesn't just say "ABC Wrestling Company drew 76,902 fans at the XYZ Arena." Dave will say, "ABC Wrestling Company drew 76,902 fans at the XYZ Arena. That's lower than what attendance was this time last year - a sign that the company shouldn't be pushing Joe Schmo." He knows his audience is full of armchair wrestling bookers who think they know everything about the wrestling business and they're conditioned to hate anything WWE or mainstream and encouraged to like independent wrestling and companies that he speaks favorably about. The Hall of Fame was supposed to be an alternative to WWE's HoF, but he's allowed someone who wrestled a blow up doll and a 9 year old girl into it. Those two things aren't going off his record. Say what you want about what wrestling should or shouldn't be, but those two things should never be appreciated and haven't helped the wrestling business at all. Like Joey Ryan's dick spot, they've helped people make fun of wrestling on social media.
It's hilarious that he didn't make it in previous years, when he'd arguably peaked, yet when he's done nothing significant in the past 18-24 months, he gets in. Even his peaks weren't that great. He was carried to greatness by Okada and others.

So retired wrestlers didn’t vote Omega in, historians had him eighth on the ballot but he got in based on reporters and whatever other current people in wrestling who read the newsletter voted him in and people told me last week I was out of line for saying “that Omega being in Dave Meltzer’s HOF is the very definition of a circlejerk”.
Given who voted him in and who didn’t, it proved my point pretty well.

Funny how Meltzer constantly dismisses Jim's views on modern wrestling, saying he's out of touch or not with the times, and because of that no one should really listen to him. But then he keeps harping on things Jim says, bringing attention to them. Why would he care what Jim says if he's so "out of touch" or "working" people as a gimmick (which has also been alleged by several personalities, not sure if Meltzer was one of them)?
Disappointment. Dave feels that he has "evolved" with wrestling and that Jim is stuck in the past. Meltzer seems very disappointed that Jim is dismissed by most, when he's one of the most brilliant wrestling minds out there, because he stands his ground on certain concepts. If Jim could "evolve" the way Dave has, his legacy would be set and he could have a job anywhere. But Dave also doesn't understand that Cornette doesn't care about any of that. The guy just wants to make money and reminisce on the sport he use to love. He has no desire to play the game anymore.

Jim Cornette is the star of the show, it's hard to find anyone smarter or more articulate in wrestling history. But Brian steers the ship on these shows. His research is on point, and although like most, he doesn't agree with all of Corny's opinions, he doesn't combat them in a confrontational or condescending manner. It's clear that they're friends off the air. You can't be a scrub if you want to talk wrestling with Cornette, he'd eat you alive.

Here's the thing - NOTHING Dave is a part of is legitimate. He runs a wrestling gossip site and publication. He calls himself a journalist, but rarely fact checks things or asks for comments from people who are the subject of stories. He reports "news", but puts his own opinions into it to influence how his readers / followers feel about a certain subject. He doesn't just say "ABC Wrestling Company drew 76,902 fans at the XYZ Arena." Dave will say, "ABC Wrestling Company drew 76,902 fans at the XYZ Arena. That's lower than what attendance was this time last year - a sign that the company shouldn't be pushing Joe Schmo." He knows his audience is full of armchair wrestling bookers who think they know everything about the wrestling business and they're conditioned to hate anything WWE or mainstream and encouraged to like independent wrestling and companies that he speaks favorably about. The Hall of Fame was supposed to be an alternative to WWE's HoF, but he's allowed someone who wrestled a blow up doll and a 9 year old girl into it. Those two things aren't going off his record. Say what you want about what wrestling should or shouldn't be, but those two things should never be appreciated and haven't helped the wrestling business at all. Like Joey Ryan's dick spot, they've helped people make fun of wrestling on social media.
It's hilarious that he didn't make it in previous years, when he'd arguably peaked, yet when he's done nothing significant in the past 18-24 months, he gets in. Even his peaks weren't that great. He was carried to greatness by Okada and others.
He hasn't had a single good match since he left NJPW and didn't have guys like Okada, Ishii, and Tanahashi to carry him anymore.
