One thing I like about this channel is when you talk about stuff like the Atari 7800, which gets overlooked. I don’t own one but it’s interesting to hear about. My favorite systems to play on are 1. My Asus laptop, since I enjoy classic PC games and Minecraft, 2. The Switch due to the big library of great games, 3. The GBA SP since I enjoyed all three versions of the Game Boy growing up and it plays them all, 4. Super NT, 5. RetroUSB AVS, 6. Mega SG, 7. Original PlayStation, 8. PlayStation 2, 9. Modded PC Engine Duo RX (although I don’t have much for it, games are too expensive!), 10. Probably either the Wii U or Gamecube. Not sure which. Great video as always.
For me right now, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, Gaming Laptop, Analogue Pocket, and 3DS, I have a ton others but those only come out if I have a specific game I want to play.
I currently only have my ps3 & ps5 set up to keep things tidy. Allows me to play PS1 through PS5 with backwards compatibility :) i have 7 other mainstream consoles in the cupboard.
The MSX2 was my first love. Metal Gear 1 and 2, Ys 1, 2 and 3, lots of excellent Konami games, the Aleste series, and so much more! The C64 was incredible as well (I have 6 of those now, as well as about 20 other systems) but for me gaming on an MSX2 is the ultimate retro gaming experience :)
I don't think I could list 10 physical consoles and computers I have used yet alone my top 10. The only physical consoles I have ever owned are the PS 2, PS TV and PSP. And the only computers I have owned are the Amiga, the Speccy and the PC. So that is 6. Now, regarding emulation (which may or may not count,) I would definitely add the Dreamcast to this list (probably my favourite of all of them,) the Neo Geo (love that console,) and the Atari 7800 and 2600. So, that's about it for me. Thanks for this video John. Delightful as always.
My favorites... VIC20, C64, Atari 8bit, 7800, Sega MS and MD, Saturn and Dreamcast; my ultimate modern age consoles are the Xbox 360 and the PS Portable. It all started on my older sisters VCS...
SNES was my childhood system. But recently I've been using the Retro-bit Super Retrocade. It allows me to play any NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games.
The 7800 is great not only for the backwards compatibility but the games made specifically for it are great too. Donkey Kong, Mario Bros Xevious are all great ports.
Love the ZX Spectrum, the Timex Sinclair 2068 was my first computer, many great memories of playing on that. I love the Atari 800 as well, I always wanted one growing up, but it was too expensive and then the SMS came along, and that was that, but I bought one a few years ago and I love it. My favorite console has to be the Genesis, with the SMS library. I had an SMS I got for Hanukkah in 1986, and then I got a Genesis with Altered Beast when that came out. Still love them, still have most of my games too. Love the original Game Boy as well, never got deeply into the later generations of the Nintendo handhelds. I also really love the Atari Lynx, I got it as a Bar Mitzvah gift and I still have it. Of the Sony consoles, I have to say I like the PS2 best, the PS3 library is too “modern” for me, I really prefer the more simple gameplay of the earlier generations, and the PS2 era is the end of that age as far as I’m concerned.
Intellivision my first console and so many cool games to pick up and play. NES, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Wii U, PS1, PS4, Xbox, Evercade. Colecovision.
Because of emulation, my list is only 5: 1) PS5 for Playstation exclusives, PS1, and better PS2 emulation for what's available, 2) PS3 for native PS3 exclusives, 3) Xbox Series X for same reason as you, 4) Switch for Switch exclusives, and 5) the Steam Deck for pretty much everything else.
I hear the baron talking... What sayeth thou ... I only got a 486 because of this game and Ultima 7. So much editing autexec.bat and config.sys until I had the right settings. I wanted a 386dx but 486 didn't cost much more so...
Great list, John. My list would include most of what you had, especially the older systems. I have a Steam Deck as well and I love what it brings to the gaming world. Thanks for the video.
C64, Amiga, Sega Genesis and Master System, 3dfx PC setup from late 1990's, Atari 7800, Gameboy Colour, early PS3, would also love a Speccy or Amstrad!
Good list. No NES / SNES / N64 / GameCube/ Wii? I respect the 7800 pic. That system was great in 1986 when I got it. The NES wasn’t out yet and it had killer ports of Robotron 2084, Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga.
I didn’t know the Genesis could play SMS games. It needs the Power Base Converter peripheral, but dang…that’s some added value. I love the SMS version of the first Sonic game. I don’t even know if I have 10 favorite consoles. Like you, no particular order: Series S (which is what I have and use for retro gaming). The SNES. I loved this system. Sill a big fan. There were a couple unlicensed peripherals for it I enjoyed: the Xband modem so I could get owned in Killer Instinct and the Super 8, which let you play NES, Famicom and Super Famicom games on your SNES. It wasn’t exactly 100% compatible, but it played the games I had. The OG NES. Some of my favorite games to this day. I play them on my Series S with RetroArch now, as my NES finally gave up on me. I do have a soft spot for the 2600, despite never owning one. I loved Pitfall and Pole Position as a kid. The Dreamcast. It was a very fun system with an interesting mix of games. My personal favorites were Frogger 2, Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2. With MvC2 right on their heels. I turned it into an emulation system for my mom as she was a gamer too. Metroid on the NES hooked her. The PS2. Probably my second favorite console ever. I’m currently in the process of using a broken Japanese only Sakura Pink phat to play games off an SSD. Unfortunately, it’ll lose the ability to play PS1 games, but I have a PS3 for that. The Genesis. I may nag on its poor sound quality in so many games, but when the sound chip is properly utilized it blazes. Streets of Rage 2, the Sonic games, heck…even Mickey Mania all have great music. And there are a ton of great games for it. One I didn’t play until fairly recently was Ristar. It’s a pretty good platformer I’d never given a chance before. And Castlevania Bloodlines is in my top three Castlevania games of all time. The GBA for it ability to play Gameboy, GBC and GBA games. That’s a lot of games. Sorry this was so long lol
Genesis was also my first getting with my own $. Altered Beast pack in and bought Golden Axe and Ghouls 'n Ghosts with it. And Revenge of Shinobi shortly thereafter. All in '89. What an introduction!
My first computer was a Sanyo MSX , followed by a C64 . Had a Master System , Mega drive, skipped the Saturn but had a Dreamcast. Even had several Nintendo's. So for backward compatibility I would pick A Wii, a Mega drive with a Master System adapter. And if they ever bring out an MSX mini count me in .
My top 3 in no order are definitely C-64, Amiga and Arcade/MAME (I'm counting it as a platform). Second tier would be Atari 8 bit computers, Atari 2600, Apple II, 1995-200x PC Compatible. Third tier is everything else I own : Atari 5200, Atari 7800, VIC-20, Colecovision, Intellivision, etc. After the 2600, I got into computers and never had the money for another console. I probably could get interested in consoles, but there are more than enough games to play on the stuff I grew up with to keep me busy until I''m dead. So I watch channels like this to see how the other half lives, so to speak.
Most of my gaming recently has been The switch on TV. Both my boys play online regularly with theirs and have may classic ports set up for me so I can drop one in the dock and play for a bit. I've been revisiting the SNES library over the last year.
Honorable mention is definitely the Wii U. That system is cracked wide open so you can play everything and anything you want that was available for the Wii U (it's almost too easy to do), a replacement to the Wii to play all those games with an upscale to 1080p with authentic hardware mimicking, and you can play Game Cube games on it as well. Just takes a little bit of time to set up the Wii and Game Cube games. In addition, it can be used as a pretty slick and fast retro box.
Right now my gba has been a handheld that I bring with me everywhere. Being able to play gb, gbc and gba games is an easy pick me, especially with a flash cart. After modding my childhood gba with a backlit screen and rechargeable battery, it’s the most convenient handheld for me.
1. PS1 = My favorite games started here, metal gear solid, resident evil, tekken, silent hill, etc...I love playing this era. 2. SNES = Great game library that aged very well, loved street fighter, mario, mortal kombat, donkey kong country, etc... 3. NES = The console I started with, had a ton of fun with super mario bros 3, my favorite game, and love finding hidden gems to this day. 4. PS4 = The console I currently game on, love recording my gameplay, and great modern games. The PS plus subscription is pretty good. 5. PSP = The greatest handheld to me, I still play it today especially modded which can play PS1, SNES, NES, GBA, GBC, GB, GEN, etc...Ambernic still trying to beat this 18 yr old handheld. 6. N64 = Nostalgic memories, I only had if for a few months back in the day but spent so much hours on mario 64 and mario kart. 7. Wii = Most unique gaming console of all time and spent hours playing all sorts of great games and weird games with the motion control. 8. Switch = The best Nintendo console, it's like a Wii U on the go, such a huge library of first party and indie games, love my Switch. 9. Dreamcast = The most underrated console, love the arcadey graphics and gameplay, such great fun. 10. Xbox One = This is the first and only xbox console I own and it's great, had some backward compatibility which is awesome and Game Pass is pretty good.
I currently play with my Playstation 3 (compatible with both PSOne and PS2 games) and sometimes with my Nintendo 3DS. I plan to one day purchase a PS5 (I have a growing library of PS4 and PS5 games--among them is Crash Bandicoot's N'Sane Trilogy, Mega Man X Collection 1 and 2, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2).
Love hearing your chooses. Atari 2600 was my first system. I'm a old goat at 52. I honestly started collecting systems about 10 years ago and collect them all. LOVE Sega genesis, have Sega CD, sold 32x wasn't a fan have Sega Saturn as well . Have emulators with all the hand helds. Just LOVE the older systems. Intellivision was tournament's at my uncles as a kid. I gotta play my 3DO more. Love the video, honest opinions and awesome!
My favorite console to play is the PS3! So many awesome games and my first console to buy with my own money as well. Playing Assassin's Creed 2 now by the way!
Love to hear what your favorite consoles are I know consoles from Sega will be on here I appreciate you and all of your dedicated work Immortal John Hancock
Great list! I agree on 9 out of 10, just would have swapped the Atari 7800 with the CBS Colecovision. Same compatibility with the 2600 (with an expansion module, ok, but still) but with a unique charm of its own.
I agree with most of yours… intellivision would definitely make my list as it was my first console. The Homebrew community is amazing with sine amazing games as you know… see you at prge in October 😎
Love my PS3 backwards compatible, series x, and also my retron 5. So many systems to play on with just those 3. Plus I love my Wii to play GameCube games as well, and retron 78 for Atari games
Awesome video idea John! I had to ponder on this one for a bit but here is what I think I would go with. This is just my opinion of course. 1st, The Xbox Series X for what you mentioned. That physical disc backwards compatibility with Og Xbox, 360, and Xbox One is huge. 2nd, PS5 for Backwards compatibility with PS4 stuff plus its own exclusives. 3rd, The original fat PS3 for what you mentioned again. That backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 is huge. Plus there are a ton of great games for PS3 not to mention the media capabilities it has with being able to play Cds, Dvds, Blu Rays, and 3D Blu Rays. 4th, I am going to go with the Wii U. I am going with this for the great selection of games, alot of which are on Switch but also for full backwards compatibility with all Wii software. The two E shops and downloadable games are great too. 5th, I am going with the Gamecube for the amazing library of games but also full backwards compatibility with all Gameboy, Gbc, and Gba games with the addition of the Game Boy Player add on. With there being a ton of Nes and Snes ports on those handhelds, that takes care of those libraries. 6th, I would go with the Sega Genesis for again all the things you mentioned. Having access to that library plus access to the Sega Cd and 32x libraries with the add ons is a game changer. Finally the backwards compatibility with Master System with the Power Base converter add on seals the deal there. 7th, I have to go with the Turbo Duo. You get access to all Turbografx 16 games, Turbo cd games, Super Cd games, PC engine Cd games, pc engine Super Cd games, abd with a converter, access to the pc engine hu card library as well as access to the arcade card for arcade cd games. What an incredible library. Now the last three are a little tougher because backwards compatibility is a non factor with my last choices so it boils down to what I would want to play most. 8th, I would go with the Sega Saturn. What an incredible library of games between what we got here and Japan. 9th, I would go with the Nintendo 64, some great iconic titles here. Finally and 10, the Dreamcast. Great library of games that continue to to get games to this day.
Great video. Your knowledge and enthusiasm for gaming is why I continue to frequent your channel. But did I miss something, or did you actually leave the legendary Atari 2600 off the list?
Series X is amazing. In addition to all the Xbox backwards compatibility, you can also emulate ps1/ps2/n64/gamecube/dreamcast/etc and many more without even having to use 'dev mode' anymore. So many games/systems playable on Series X
@@tr1bes its much newer zen based architecture and grafics. One X is a powerhouse but series X is much faster and has raytracing. Because my TV isn't that powerful regarding Hz I'd take an series s though which is much cheaper...
Yes its better than Nintendo and Sony effort but 20% of back compat isn't anything to praise. If you told someone a console will not play 80% of a catalog, thats not exactly something anyone would call "Amazing" in a good way. Its also emulation not backwards compatibility. The last true backwards compatible console was launch ps3
Mine are Dreamcast (favorite console of all time), Original Xbox (a great machine), PS3 slim (for the great library and PS1 compatibility), and PS4 (not because of its modern games, but because of all of the great remastered versions of 90s games and gems like House of the Dead remake which is my new favorite). As for my old school hardware from the 80s and 90s, I now emulate NES, Genesis, Sega CD, 32x, and Atari games simply because I have a large in box collection and don't want to cause any more unnecessary shelf wear to my old cartridges, discs, and consoles. I am a diehard Sega collector who has been buying hardware for 30+ years, and am trying to preserve all of the stuff I've had since the 90s as best as I can (that also includes Nintendo and Atari), so I just emulate the old hardware to preserve my original cartridges, discs, and consoles.
Game Boy Advance SP 3DS XL Switch Xbox 360 PS3 GameCube Dreamcast Wii U PS4 and I actually really enjoy the Retron 5 and most things from Hyperkin.. love the Retro mini consoles too. I have yet to play a Ps5 and haven't played Xbox Series much.
I would say my Wii is my number one console because it is a pre order model that I played with my grandma and because of the games I downloaded from the Wii Shop also the fact I can play GameCube games on mine so if I had to chose one it would be that. I can't really think of 10, but I love the Genesis Mini, the Genesis Mini 2, the SNES Classic, (because they have a lot of the games I loved as a kid, but i don't have to try to afford the cartridges, I don't have to worry about battery saves, and I don't have tons of games taking up space. I also refuse to hack mine, but to each their own.), the Switch, the Xbox Series S, and the two newer Mario and Zelda Game and Watches. They are great to travel with. The ps2 and ps3 were awesome, but everything else that's above are things I will go back and play.
Great to see you're still rockin' with the red ZX Spectrum +2, do you also use DivMMC? Would be good to see a video about this very cool looking custom colour and what tapes you own etc.
Glad to see the Xbox Series X get mentioned, because it's my favorite modern console. Plays games from every Xbox generation, and it's a beast of a console in terms of overall power as well.
spectrum- mega drive (palys master ststem and game gears games too) - sega saturn - 2005 era pc (plays pc exlusive games nver out console or steam even) -xbox one (play dreamcast exlsuives xbox 1 xbox 360 game too). ı dont see to get series console if you have modern pc. maybe series s black version with disc drive maybe on future. series x and ps5 too big its like pc cases.
Before my console gaming life style I was exclusively a PC gamer but having to upgrade your memory,CPU,sound card and video card almost every year or two(Mid 90's to early 2000's) was costly and annoying.
Great list! Thank you for sharing! Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck would def be at the top of my list! A modded PS Vita is a really nice emulation device too!
Interesting list! I suppose as a child of the early 80s living in the good old midwest my list would be drastically different. For me in no particular order: 1) NES 2) SNES 3) Sega Genesis 4) Sega Saturn 5) PS1 6) PS2 7) PS3 8) GameCube 9) Switch 10) Wii
I love the DS as well but am really looking forward to the upcoming DS Consolizer from Game Box. I would love to be able to play the DS library on my TV on real hardware. Here's hoping it ends up being a good solution. I am curious how it will handle the input for the bottom screen in games as that's seemingly one of the larger hurdles to overcome for consolizing the handheld.
Oh my list is so easy. any modern day comp, a 286, win 95 for older big box games, x360, xbox, genesis, saturn, dreamcast, 3ds. I know thats only 7 but there is nothing else that I would play regularly. Yeah, so Im a sega baby through and through so not a nintendo fan at all. The 3ds is the only handheld that I use. Like you I had the commodore 64 back in the day but I cant think of but a few games that I would play on that today.
I wish they would make a switch console just for playing on the TV. I only play portable if all my screens are being used. And how come everybody and their dog had a C64. I'm 46 and all I had was a Vic20. I had Gorf and Radar Rat Race cartridge games and a Krazy Kong cassette game. Not to mention the ones you could program in from the book. 1 hr for a smiley face. I had more patience when I was 5-6 yrs old.
I want a SteamDeck badly! So I'm going to get one this Spring! Top 10? That's so hard but I will give my top 5 right off the bat....1. PS4 because of its Insane amount of Awesome exclusives! 2. Sega DreamCast because of so many unique nostalgic games! 3. My PSP! 4. My Switch and 5. The Apple 2E I had as a young teenager! John I praise your inclusion of the PS3 but for different reasons, some of my favorite games of all time are on it like KillZone 2 which is an Awesome and criminally underrated FPS! Uncharted series, TLOU, GOW 3, Heavy Rain, Red Dead Redemption, Infamous 1 and 2 plus so many other great titles!
The Commodore 64 is my top pick of all time. I already had a Coleco Telstar (Pong), Coleco Gemini (Atari 2600 clone), and a Vic-20. There is a special place in my heart for all of them, but the 64 is the first system that truly had me hooked. While I had several 2600 and Vic games, I had thousands for the 64 and never had a time when I was tired of playing on it. With the exception of the Gemini (It died), I still have them all. The 2600 (or Gemini in my case) would be second. Although I only had a few games back then, my collection has grown significantly in the last 40 years.
I use my Switch the most, followed by my Series X, then probably Genesis, NES, N64, then PS2. I have a PS5, but I've been mostly meh about it. I haven't played GoW yet, but I am finding little reason to play it other than a couple of exclusives.
PC (absolute no brainer) Mister FPGA (covers most the retro consoles/computers/arcades) Analogue Pocket (covers most the retro handhelds) Steam Deck (PC Gaming on the go & amazing emulation) PS3 BC Model (covers PS1, PS2, PS3) Series X (covers Xbox One & Series X plus many Xbox & 360 BC Games) 3DS (covers DS & 3DS (& GBA Native once Modded) Vita (covers PSP & Vita plus amazing Homebrew community) PS5 (covers PS4 & PS5) Dreamcast (cant leave the Dreamcast out) Honorable mentions: Switch (pretty cool handheld) Wii U (Virtual Console & covers Wii, Wii U (& Gamecube Native once Modded)
I haven’t read others comments(yet) because I want to say my list without being influenced by reading others stuff… and I haven’t watched this video until I write this out as well… with that said here’s my list. 1. N64 2. Wii(Gamecube compatible) 3. PS3(Backward compatible) 4. Xbox 360(Backward compatible)and arcade games I have 5. Gameboy Advance(I’d update the screen but I’d want the original for the wide grip) 6. Sega(to play the sonic and knuckles with sonic 1,2&3) 7. Nintendo 3DS 8. Xbox series X 9. Nintendo Switch with the online pack for some easy backward compatibilities with the original controls. 10. And lastly the NES for the games that just respond better on an original system.
Great list forgot some of those until you mentioned them here. As for me aside from the PC I'd have to say that from personal experience and affection my list would be. 11.Original Xbox 10.Game Cube 9.PS2 8.Wii 7.Xbox 360 6.Wii U 5.Xbox One X 4.PS4 3.PS5 2.PS3 1.Nintendo Switch
My ten systems to game on: 10. Sega Game Gear, 09. Sega Genesis, 08. N64 07. Atari Lynx , 06. C64, 05. Colecovision , 04. Nintendo Original, 03. Evercade , 02. Super Nintendo , 01. Gameboy Color
If your going to include the 32x and CD as Genesis accessories, then don't forget there was a 32x like device that gave the Genesis backward compatibility with the Master System!
I like the Neo Geo, but honestly play compiliations(samurai showdown anthology)of Neo Geo games on other consoles these days. Also is emulated quite a bit so there is that. Top 20 for me but my top 10 I went with consoles and computers with larger libraries
10 is probably too much for me. 1) Nintendo DS. Huge library of fantastic games, great art style in most of the games, and the device itself with dual screens and some vibes of Game and Watch is just lovely. 2) Nintendo Wii U. It`s so hard for me to understand why it was a failure. Absolutely amazing games, backward compatibility, many accessories... This console provides so wide range of gaming experience. 3) Xbox Series X. Technically amazing, but not a lot of great new titles yet. But still, great way to play older games, including very nice ps2 (and many other consoles) emulation. 4) Nintendo Switch. Not as amazing for me, because I have a Wii U, but nevertheless.
1. Sega Genesis 2. Sega Dreamcast 3. PlayStation 2 4. Nintendo GameCube 5. Nintendo 64 6.Super Nintendo Entertainment System 7.Nintendo Entertainment System 8.Sega Master System 9.Sega game gear 10.SG-1000
Even though the SX accepts discs, it's not physically playing them - it detects the game and then runs it entirely off an emulator The Xbox 1 games via disc are true backwards compat like the PS4 games on PS5

Im the 1st to watch! Nice video sir BTW I use the backwards compatible systems often Xbox 360 for the OG XBOX games and the ps3 is just great
@JohnHancockgGiveaway doesn't seem legit 😕
The Spectrum is such a great computer. I have so many great memories of playing with it when I was a child.
I have a new Spectrum Next MiSTer box sitting on my desk, unused. Gotta get to it!
I thought "great" had a different meaning. 🤔
Thanks for the reminder about PS1 compatibility built-in to all PS3s. I had forgotten about it.

Awesome. I’d have to think long and hard for me some forsure picks would be the PS2, SNES, Switch and Xbox series X.
Pac-Man and Galaga.
bro that altered beast hat is AWESOME.
great videos i love watching
Great coverage of some of the most classic (and modern) gaming systems ever.
I didn’t know the Genesis could play SMS games. It needs the Power Base Converter peripheral, but dang…that’s some added value.
I love the SMS version of the first Sonic game.
I don’t even know if I have 10 favorite consoles.
Like you, no particular order:
Series S (which is what I have and use for retro gaming).
Great topic for a video, John! Commodore 64 and Amiga will always be special to me. Hope all is well with you and your family!
Thanks, you too!
MSX is so underrated! I'd love to have an MSX mini.
You're a legend. The only things I play these days is my backwards compatible PS2 and sometimes my PC if I want to play modern games.
Thank you!
@John Hancock I just saw u on the retro collection documentary. Curious, would u consider doing, lets plays of these games
Great topic. I have a hard time picking what to play on now that have 20+ systems.
I understand
Great list! I agree on 9 out of 10, just would have swapped the Atari 7800 with the CBS Colecovision. Same compatibility with the 2600 (with an expansion module, ok, but still) but with a unique charm of its own.
Great list John! I personally would’ve added the Wii U and kinda expected the Evercade to be part of it as well.
I agree with most of yours… intellivision would definitely make my list as it was my first console. The Homebrew community is amazing with sine amazing games as you know… see you at prge in October 😎
I loved the 7800 ! Do you think you'll be able to do a versus video between the 7800 and the XE? I always looked at the XE as a upscaled 7800.
Possibly!
WiiU was the king of backwards compatibility.
Great list
Thanks!
The 7800 plays 2600 games ;)
Awesome video John!
Thanks!
Series X is amazing. In addition to all the Xbox backwards compatibility, you can also emulate ps1/ps2/n64/gamecube/dreamcast/etc and many more without even having to use 'dev mode' anymore. So many games/systems playable on Series X
Would love to know how to do this!
I have Xbox One X. What is the significant difference between series x and One that make it a buy?
@@WilliamSmith-ex9et Search for RetroArch Xbox Retail Mode. I hope this helps!
Game Boy Advance SP
3DS XL
Switch
Xbox 360
PS3
GameCube
Dreamcast
Wii U
PS4
and I actually really enjoy the Retron 5 and most things from Hyperkin.. love the Retro mini consoles too.
I have yet to play a Ps5 and haven't played Xbox Series much.
1- Mega Drive/Sega CD/32 X
2- Nintendo Switch
3- SNES
4- PS3
5-Arcade
You bought me with Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K, C64, Amiga etc.. ;-)
Good choice!
@@johnhancockretro 'Rainbow' (ZX Spectrum) my very first computer back in 82. Still love it! ;-)
I love my fat backwards compatible ps3 exactly for those reasons! Still my favorite console and I grew up with the 2600!
Hard to argue with the PS3 for all the titles it could play!
I played on everything, but,pc.nes,ps1,ps2,ps3,snes,genesis, saturn,Sega cd,too many to name only 10
Great to see you're still rockin' with the red ZX Spectrum +2, do you also use DivMMC? Would be good to see a video about this very cool looking custom colour and what tapes you own etc.
I do and did a video ;)
@@johnhancockretro who is that giveaway guy? Scammer?
Amiga 1200, 2000s Pentium 3D Graphics computer (can emulate PS1 etc. ….), NES, Atari 2600, PS4, PS2 & Xbox360 (with Kinect), 3DSXL, Switch, Game Gear….
My top 3 are the NES, SNES and Atari Lynx. Of your list I would pick the 7800, mainly for the backwards compatibility.
Ps2 thru 5, xbox 360, snes, win xp, sega cd, 286 and 486 pc and game cube
Before my console gaming life style I was exclusively a PC gamer but having to upgrade your memory,CPU,sound card and video card almost every year or two(Mid 90's to early 2000's) was costly and annoying.
If I had to pick 10 my 60gb PS3 and Commodore would be included too
Great list! Thank you for sharing! Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck would def be at the top of my list! A modded PS Vita is a really nice emulation device too!
Good choice!
I've become too lazy to hook up my retro gaming consoles so only play the current gen systems 😆
I primarily game on my door bell. I’ve got it set up like Simon.
Interesting list! I suppose as a child of the early 80s living in the good old midwest my list would be drastically different. For me in no particular order:
1) NES
2) SNES
3) Sega Genesis
4) Sega Saturn
5) PS1
6) PS2
7) PS3
8) GameCube
9) Switch
10) Wii
always a sucker for a top ten.
Zoo Keeper is a sensational puzzle treasure, the iOS version is great still play that one, works great on an ipad!
If I had to narrow it down to 10 I'd have to buy 2 more.
Onexplayer 1s and now the onexplayer 2. Really powerfull handheld pcs with 8.4 inch screen. 7 and 6 inch screen handhelds are just too small.
Having picked up a PS5 recently, I honestly only use my Series X as a retro emulator now.
PS3 backwards compatible version and a PS5 make a great pair - thousands of games.
Great video John, but you can’t exclude the PS5 and it’s amazing first party titles!
The Amiga and Atari St. The colors were so nice
They are!
My number 1 would be a reliable gaming laptop, followed by a 3DS, GBA, PS4 and SeriesX, probably a switch too.
I have a Wii, PS2, N64, PSP, PC and a Gameboy Advance SP.
John, have you ever had any reliability problems with your playstation 3 console? Thanks
My personal #1 the past few months has been the evercade exp + evercade vs. So many great memories and new experiences.
PC (absolute no brainer)
Mister FPGA (covers most the retro consoles/computers/arcades)
Analogue Pocket (covers most the retro handhelds)
Steam Deck (PC Gaming on the go & amazing emulation)
PS3 BC Model (covers PS1, PS2, PS3)
Series X (covers Xbox One & Series X plus many Xbox & 360 BC Games)
3DS (covers DS & 3DS (& GBA Native once Modded)
Vita (covers PSP & Vita plus amazing Homebrew community)
PS5 (covers PS4 & PS5)
Dreamcast (cant leave the Dreamcast out)
Honorable mentions:
Switch (pretty cool handheld)
Wii U (Virtual Console & covers Wii, Wii U (& Gamecube Native once Modded)
I haven’t read others comments(yet) because I want to say my list without being influenced by reading others stuff… and I haven’t watched this video until I write this out as well… with that said here’s my list.
1. N64
2. Wii(Gamecube compatible)
3. PS3(Backward compatible)
4. Xbox 360(Backward compatible)and arcade games I have
5. Gameboy Advance(I’d update the screen but I’d want the original for the wide grip)
6. Sega(to play the sonic and knuckles with sonic 1,2&3)
7. Nintendo 3DS
8. Xbox series X
11.Original Xbox
10.Game Cube
9.PS2
8.Wii
7.Xbox 360
6.Wii U
5.Xbox One X
4.PS4
3.PS5
2.PS3
1.Nintendo Switch
My ten systems to game on: 10. Sega Game Gear, 09. Sega Genesis, 08. N64 07. Atari Lynx , 06. C64, 05. Colecovision , 04. Nintendo Original, 03. Evercade , 02. Super Nintendo , 01. Gameboy Color
If your going to include the 32x and CD as Genesis accessories, then don't forget there was a 32x like device that gave the Genesis backward compatibility with the Master System!
I mention that in the video ;)
Uhg! Sorry, guess I have to listen better!
I agree about the Fat 20gb or 60gb backwards compatible PS3, but Neo Geo isn't on your list John?
My favorite console is still the NES. I still think it looks good as well since there is no video game sticking out.
1. Sega Genesis
2. Sega Dreamcast
3. PlayStation 2
4. Nintendo GameCube
5. Nintendo 64
6.Super Nintendo Entertainment System
7.Nintendo Entertainment System
8.Sega Master System
9.Sega game gear
10.SG-1000
My fav systems...all time..
Atari 600xl
C64
Megadrive
Amiga 500
Saturn
Gamecube
Xbox 360
3DS
VCS
Even though the SX accepts discs, it's not physically playing them - it detects the game and then runs it entirely off an emulator
The Xbox 1 games via disc are true backwards compat like the PS4 games on PS5
9:10 there is not really a multitude of exclusives on the PS5... specially when most of them get PC or PS4 releases
