Debut 1/6/68
Peaked at #1 for FIVE weeks!
Written by: A. Popp & P. Cour
From the LP "Blooming Hits"
This record was originally purchased by my sister Lynn, who then gave me the record years later.
This is the original mono mix as heard when this was a huge hit on AM Top 40 radio on stations like WABC New York.

................. 1968...................
one UNFORGETTABLE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song almost made me cry 😢 it reminds me of my parents and when I was a young kid. I was born in 1962 what a great time too be a kid!
60 for me. It was Camelot.
@@Californiadreamin715 1960 cool! But I don’t understand the Camelot comment?
This record doesn't need lyrics, the instrumental speaks for itself very well.
The Dells did a vocal version of this song with a children’s nursery ditty “I Can Sing A Rainbow” added to the mix.
This is the real thing - The pitch control on the turntable is set at 0.0 (see digital display),
and there are no speed changes made in the iMovie software I use to upload to UA-cam.
Thanks for listening! Spencer
This on 45 is the best version, I love how raw and original and gritty the sound is compared to digital remasters
Vacuum tubes nothing I can think of made it as loud and present
One of the greatest instrumentals of all time. You never hear instrumentals anymore and it's a shame. When I was in high school somebody in one of the classrooms was playing this record and you could hear it out in the hallway. I stopped dead in my tracks and listened to it. It's funny the things you remember. Everyone was talking about this instrumental when it debuted on the charts. It seems no one listens to music like this anymore. Kids today are missing so much.
Yo I'm a kid these days. Honestly it just seems hard to find tracks like these because no instrumentals get popular anymore. Which is a shame
Really enjoyed your comment, g bridgman. In the late 60s and early 70s, I remember "middle of the road" radio stations would play "Love Is Blue" when they had to fill, say, 40 seconds heading to the top-of-the-hour news. "Love Is Blue," "Java" by Al Hirt, "Alley Cat" by Bent Fabric, and later "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione --all these wonderful instrumentals that got big radio airplay.
Long gone are the days when you could hear Paul Mauriat, The Kinks, Who, Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot... All on the same station in the same hour! Great days they were because it was so varied & hip. We shall not see the likes of this again.
The first record I ever bought. It has special memories of my childhood. The most beautiful song ever. The song of my life.
mine too .....yet I was 4 yrs old when this masterpiece was #1 on the charts! song of my life too! LOVE IT!!!
I meant to thumb up your comment! I'm trying to change it. Thanks for sharing 😊 your love of this song!!
My Mom played the Paul Muriat LP album with this song when I was a child. I loved it from the first time I heard. Sounds just as great in 2022 as it did then. Agree, a short instrumental tune filled with meaning.
My dad used to play this when I was little. Now I'm sitting here listening to it again, albeit with a few tears. Wish I could go back to those days....
Early 1968.
I still remember falling in love with this song the first time it was played on the radio.
And I'm still in love with it 48 years later....
Yeah, just like me --- how come most radio stations no longer play that wonderful music anymore???
@@Quacks0 There still are, I assume-- stumbled upon a radio station one time over here in Hawaii that usually played songs from around the 50's and 60's.
I guess you just gotta look more thoroughly-
I loved this from the first time I heard it! Still love it! Oh, goes way back!
If this song doesn't get you into the Valentine's Day mood, I don't know what song would.
I FOUND THIS - (Paul Mauriat album) IN A THRIFT STORE. I BOUGHT IT!!! absolutely!!
I'm 41 (born in November 1971) and I first discovered this song in late 1987 on an oldies radio program. I've loved it ever since. It was a well deserved #1 hit in 1968. :)
This has to be one of the most underrated #1 hits of the 60s and of all time. It's also funny how the Tom and Jerry shorts ended shortly before the release of this song and it kind of has a melancholy tone to it
The best music mankind has ever composed
Such great childhood memories of this song with family summer vacations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and all our friends there. I could almost smell pine and taste root beer when listening to this. Thanks for sharing this beautiful song, its very personal for me !
Yes this bring back memories of my childhood of Hew Hampshire all so
degrandmjr How funny ! Where in NH ? We were always in the Tamworth/Ossipee area
I grow up in Manchester but we would go to Sunapee ,bear brook state park but most of the time we would go to Hampton beach
I love it up there.. in fact, going in June :)
Cool in joy
Yesterday's music has memories...today's music has not achieved that yet, and may never!
Dennis B. well I can remember California Girls by Katy Perry and sitting outside with my ex Jeff three weeks before the shocking news that we were no longer a couple drinking red Kool-Aid
Dennis B. Bad memories will be achieved.
Everyone has their own memories to their own favorites. I clearly remember in the 60's the adults that grew up with big bands hated rock groups and the music of then as shallow and not real music (whatever that means). Don't assume that just because you don't like today's music everyone else feels the same.
Why not cause you don’t like or listen to it the kids and young adults will remember the songs with fondness. My parents said that our music would not have the same for us but we do. So give today’s artists and songs a chance. They are making a damn load of money with it.
This song always made me cry I found it so beautiful. At age 14 I so wanted to be in love. I cried from loneliness and I cried for the expectation of happiness someday....
I was 9 years old when I heard this on the radio. My mother loved "Love Is Blue," very much as well. We went to a store called Arlans and bought the 45 rpm just like yours. I always loved the Philips record label. Mr. WABC Radio, your 45 of this beautiful piece, is without any scratches, just like new!!! Thank you for sharing!!!! GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!
I have the exact same 45 on the original Phillips label of "Love Is Blue" by Paul Mauriat & His Orchestra from 1968 in mint condition. The record sleeve is included also in mint condition.
charlesrlassiter If you use Facebook, I run a fan group for collectors of the Philips label at facebook.com/groups/philipsrecords :)
WOW...Arlans was on Teutonia and florist street in Milwaukee Wi. The first Pick N Save Grocery store was also in that mall.
I love your oldie record player. THANK YOU VEEEEERY MUUUUUCH you have a good sense of humor for us who want to travel back to 60's time!
a few years ago I found the Love Is Blue album in a Thrift Store in Las Vegas. it was in perfect condition! Yes, I bought it! Still have it
I was 13 years old when this record came out...But, I haven't heard it until recently on 8/5th/2020!! Imagine... Now, I just keep playing it over & over again !!!
When I think of this song, it takes me back to my early childhood right before I started kindergarten during the fall of 1968.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, "Love Is Blue" proves that music alone can convey mood, feeling and message. So beautiful and yet so melancholy, it not only captures the feeling of a love lost or unrequited but also of a time in history and music now passed - they simply do not write or record songs like this anymore. Pity. I always stop when this one is on so I can fully appreciate it.
OMG this song has haunted me for years!!!! I was 7 years old when i fell in love with this tune! Sad part is i never knew the name of the song, so i went on a mission (at 6:15 a.m.) today to find it. hahaha... Thanks for posting! Absolutely love it!!!
Similar story for me. I'm now 40
And you can actually hear every instrument in the 45 other than a CD some the instrumental sounds are not there the 45 vinal was clearer REALLY BEAUTIFUL ❤️ 👍👍
Correct!
Technics SL-1500MK2 to be exact.
1978 vintage
Masterpiece~♡~touches the heart *the soul *the mind
albert arteaga perfectly said
From a great time to be alive, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever.
The instrumentals from the 60's are so incredible. I remember this I was 7 when it came out in '68.
Thank you for teleporting me to my middle teen years. Ah, the sweet memories. 🙏
That is it i am having my Thorens repaired! i am so sick of digital crap! there is something relaxing in watching a record spin and the whole process of playing it! this some how sounds better even though i am listening on a computer!! Thanks i really needed that!!!
Gotta love the "department store music" horns and the "kitty-cat" harpsichord riffs. LOL
A truly instrumental classic from the 60's.this one is no exception.
This song reached the 4th place in the ESC 1967 with Vicky Léandros. The winner was Sandy Shaw with Puppets on a string.
Vintage ESC was not that mediocre !
Jeff Beck version is just excellent ! Played with guitars is timeless.
The first time I heard this song I felled head over hill in love with it.I still feel same way about to day. Think you for sharing it.
Како је лепо видети оригинал плоче ове прелепе мелодије...
и чути мекоћу оригинала! Хвала лепо. Синиша од Срема лепог
I remember when this first came out in 1968 l was 9. Loved it then and still love it.
Love is blue by Paul Mauriat is such a great classic instrumental in my life and 1968 when this song came out was a great time to be a kid
Romantic beyond words.
I was 12 years old in Arica... Chile.. What a memories of my youth!
Perfect, great vinyl rip! The best recording. Don't be fooled by lame imitations.
❤ VERY GOOD ❤VERY WONDERFUL ❤❤❤
This is such a great song. and I love reading other peoples comments telling their such happy memories. I think I heard this when I was a kid but back when I was around, it was a classic.
+Mike Mathews Do you or have you ever lived in Ridgeland,Ms? I had a neighbor with same name &spelling.
+Mike Mathews : Same story for me. Even at that young age growing in Montreal, I already l liked lots of different types of music. Even had Mason Williams's Classical Gas on 45 RPM. Thanks for the memories.
Brings back memories of being nine years old and living in Freeport,Texas and hearing this on The Big 610 KILT out of Houston.
This stuck out on top 40 radio because it was so different from the pop and rock that was dominant then. To this day this song just sounds like a dream trip to Europe.
Very 1st record I ver bought, First .45 RPM recording, still own it today
What a difference a year makes.. in 1970. My graduation year.. this was our class song.. in 1971, the class song was I’m Eighteen
This song is a true masterpiece, so beautiful and well performed, it still chokes me up every time I hear it ( I was 6 years old when it came out ) and I certainly have not heard any of today's music that has had that impact.
Such a sad yet amazingly beautiful piece of music. A tear comes to my eye every time I hear this. Although released as a single in 1968, it was originally recorded in 1967, the year I was born. I love and miss vinyl. The audio of this sounds great with earbuds. Thank you, Paul Mauriat and thank you for posting. Watching records spin while listening was always fascinating to me.
Beautiful, beautiful, I’ve always loved this song , since the day it came out. & still have the single. I was 13 years old then.
Love is bleu was sung by Vicky Leandros in 1967 for the first time. Nice to hear younger people love this song people. People will still listnen to this song 100 years from know. Th song was sung in french originally. The first time I heard love is blue was when I was little on stormy weekend record my dad has.
Beautiful. This song moves my heart. It also brings back so many memories.
# 1 in early 1968-Classic instrumental!
Beautiful memory of yesteryear that no come back more
Just a great record!Only in the 60's would a record like this get released. Certain boneheads control what they want the public to hear through most media outlet's. Nowadays this music would never get recorded.
So Much Money just to get the players to show up to a session. Technology killed that cat. It gives Zappa's Concerto for Violin & Low Budget Orchestra much more meaning than only a musical one!
Man does this bring back a lot of memories, ahh the childhood days in the sixties !!
nice song and a very nice sound system
*AT THE TIME, THAT THIS SONG WAS RELEASED, AND I WAS 4 YEARS OLD, MY MOM BOUGHT THE ALBUM, WHICH HAD THE STEREO VERSION, AND SHE PLAYED IT THROUGHOUT THE DAY, AT RANDOM, BEING HER FAVORITE TRACK* ....... *SHE HAD A HAD TIME, GETTING THE ALBUM COVER FROM ME, AS I COMPLETELY, FELL IN LOVE 💖, WITH THE MULTI-COLORED PANTED NUDE CUTE HONEY N THE COVER* .........
*THOSE WERE SOME WONDERFUL DAYS* .......
Many of these albums by those (for lack of a better term) 'pops-orchestras' featured beautiful pin-ups on the covers.
Remembrances from my childhood...Beautifull...!!! thanks...
💙💙💙 love is blue beautiful song my favorite song 💙💙💙
WABCRADIO77 This came up out of nowhere and here am I, all of a sudden in my teenage bedroom, waiting for my first love to call, surrounded by books and doing homework. My parents and I listening to this song on my old record player in a rainy afternoon... Memories arisen from music, smell or taste, as Marcel Proust has already explained so well. Such a sweet moment you've given me. Thanks a lot for this lovely video.
Thank you for making me 9 years old again. WoW !!! what a great time for me back then.
Trés belle melodie! M´emport a les jours lontaines de m´infance!
Thanks ! Music of those beautiful days !!!
20 years ago, when I was 4, my father always played this music~ It's so beautiful!
I was a high school student when this song came to my years. And I loved it since then. I can still recall it was Marty Robbinssinging this song, with his signature hit "Don't Worry(about me) " together in that same album. I don't know who was the original singer of this song. Just remember Marty's rendition. Quite impressed. Paul Mauriat made this Orchestra piece years later.
January 1968 and we were expecting closer Mexico Olympics games ! In october it was still airing on radio !
...I share the same sentiments...whenever i hear/listen to this Masterpiece,it always reminds me(entering Memory Lane)of how lovely and peaceful the life was then in the '60s,early '70s. Luv to listen to this piece of music all the time.
Mr.Paul Mauriat,(you are a Boss)...a Great Rendition....an all time CLASSIC.
Thank You,Thank You,Thank You.
Your dedication to sharing these gems is unparalleled.Thanks.
Whenever I hear this song I picture my grandmother sitting in the rocking chair praying with her rosary.
perfect and a classic for all time..........
Great song. Remember it from many years ago but the Millennium episode reawakened my interest. Thanks for sharing
This is the best version/ arrangement wise.
The intensity of the Brass section really made it swing.
Ahh the 60's The decade of great insturmentals. I was born in 1969 so I missed it first hand. But by 10 years old I had already listened to most of them. Had it not been for "Hey Jude", this would have been the # 1 song of 1968.
This, along with “Theme From ‘A Summer Place’” by Percy Faith were great instrumental songs from the 1960’s, and don’t forget “Love’s Theme” by the Love Unlimited Orchestra featuring Barry White as his arranger.
another one of my FAV pieces of music ! :) i remember when this came out.
So do I.
Amazing! I can almost taste and smell 1968!
Natural Sound
I used to listen to WABC from Phila when I could get the reception... I remember your countdowns on Sat Afternoons (or am I confusing something? mebbe..) after watching Mad Men tonite I had to post to my FB page... Thank's for the memories... I wish I still had all my 45's....
Just a beautiful instrumental on this song.
I've been watching your video and listening to this song since April, 17th 2012 and i just stop watching !!!!
J'adore !!!
Depuis deux ans je me drogue à cette chanson qui me redonne le moral et me booste pour la journée !!!
Merci pour le partage -- Thanks for sharing !!!

One of the most beautiful sad love tunes I have ever Heard. And so true love can be blue when we are apart from the one we love for one reason or another. We miss her and would like to be with her but sometimes business trips take us away and it is a Little hard to go to sleep into an otherwise empty hotel room alone.
1968...on AM TOP 40, this and Jumpin Jack Flash in the same hour on
the same station...variety...and we liked it!
Wow. I remember this great hit from back in the day and it still sounds fabulous today as it did when it first came out. It's a beautiful piece of music from Paul Mauriat and his orchestra.
...grazie !!!!

I come here to your channel for a dose of the way things used to be thanks.
...that's right Mike! Me too!...
True story
This version is beautiful.
"gray, gray my life is gray, since the day you went away......."
This was popular when I was in Japan in the military (Air Force) decades ago. At that time, the music of various bands seemed to be the popular thing to listen to. .
as a 7 year old in 1969. I remember asking my Mother to play this song on the record player when I was home sick on the couch.
Todavia tengo discos de acetato y el sonido es espectacular... con sus chrrrss suena increible, mi equipo de sonido es un Technics... uno de los mejores de los 80's.
Love this high quality sound.
Nothing like listening to a LP, MP3 is just pitiful. This song is a classic just like summertime
25 cent movies, 12 cent comics and don't come home until the street lights come on!
# 1 in early 1968-Great instrumental !
Love this song!!!! Thanks
Sad and emotional song from back in the day. 1968, the year I was born.
Memories of my Dad playing that on the piano.
This somg makes me think of my grandmother sitting in the rocking chair and saying her rosary.
