Nice Video! let me just say this from somebody who has gone full circle in the modding/custom scene in both the car world and to some extent in the motorcycle world, and as an automotive engineer working at a major OEM. You're right, there is a reason you don't see more custom builds, not only are they massive money pits, but you will also never achieve OEM level results, no matter how good the quality of your parts or work is. Custom builds will never be competitive on the track and will always be massively unreliable. We spend millions of man hours engineering stuff and still get it wrong sometimes. That being said, I can also state with confidence from personal experience that nothing... Not even an Italian exotic comes close to the pleasure of riding/driving something you built yourself, just know what you're getting into and the process of building itself can be a mind expanding process.
Also, if you do make a build out of what you flashed, be ready for a lot of hate from the fanboys, it is after all the genesis of the range up until recently... LOL ;-) (I have a fully restored successor to that, not sure if you caught my comment/photo on the other video)

The CBX literally gives me goosebumps to hear it go through the gears. I owned a 79 Silver CBX in the early 1990s. I regret selling it to this day. These bikes make music that NO self respecting motor head can disrespect. Thanks for you upload and all the luck with your build!

Since I first saw the CBX I wanted one. Finally, in the late 80s I acquired an 82 and then a 79 CBX. I still have them and at one point they were the only bikes I kept when I thinned out my vehicles. They are keepers! You are right.

My favorite memory of a CBX1000 was actually a "slo-mo" routine carried out by a true biker bad ass (rider unknown). While enjoying our weekend ritual of cruising through the twisty winding one way road of Flushing Park MI. this guy pulls behind us on this CBX1000 with it's HUGE engine...falls behind by 3 car lengths, pops a perfect 45° wheelie then revs the engine, pops the clutch and smokes the tire until the front tire so very slowly & gracefully comes down, touches off....then does it again and again treating the park to a bad ass demo by a bad ass bike...SO COOL!

I have owned a CBX for 25 years, they are everything you say and more, please note came with 6 into 2 as standard. Mine has a MAC 6 into 2 and sounds great, the original MAC I had had a bad habit of shedding baffles, and it doesn't improve the sound. I prefer mine standard, but wherever you go it turns heads, even when not moving.

I need 2 of them! 1 to build into a cafe racer with a modern sport bike suspension wheels and brakes. And another to swap the CBX engine into a modern liter bike chassis! The bike itself is worthless to me, but that engine! That sound! Makes it a must own someday!

I first heard this bike leaving a car show when I was 18 I didn't know what it was. I'm 32 now and five years ago I came across a vid on UA-cam called f1 sounding bike or something like that. Anyway I clicked and as soon as I heard the bike full throttle I got goosebumps and like flashes of the bike I saw that day back when I was a teenager just flooded my brain. Since then I've been hooked on this beautiful machine. And like you I too dream about owning one someday with the same mods.

Do your build, and half ass nothing! Its an investment in yourself in a dying age. That hot rod era, do it yourself, cut it apart and weld it back together mindset dies a little more every year. We seal the products shut and make em hard to work on, so it'll never be more accessible than it is now.
When I was a boy I had an 80s suburban, which is an odd project. And for the most part, even today, no one cares.
But I know, in my heart, what it felt like to sit on a fender well under an open hood and pull spark plugs from right under than manifold nbd. Chevy small blocks. Carburators, and 5klb trucks with no antilock brakes. Shits never looked the same since. Those memories are priceless. Old men will get rich and chase those golden days they remember.
This CBX series and the Buell series really tugged at my heartstrings, and made me feel old. Love your content

To be honest with you, it would come down to the price of it. And with the R&D needed to develop a new one, it probably wouldn't be cheap and they definitely wouldn't make it faster than the CBR1000 cause that's a recipe for internal competition.

I've got a 1998 Honda VFR800 and I've definitely spent twice the money on mods than what the bike cost me to buy. Swapped the whole front end(cbr954), cbr929 rear shock, Power Commander V, LED lights and replacing electrical wiring, brake lines and more. I still haven't finished the tuning and yet to even start the cosmetic side of mods... But its a bike I love to ride and love the reward of when it comes together and puts a smile on my face. It's definitely an addiction.

My brother passed away 2 years ago, he left it out in the weather years before he passed, made me ill to see it in the condition its in, it was running when I gave it to him. It is currently sitting in my garage, I would like to get it running, just need the funds to start. Great videos, I had open 6 into 1 pipes on it, it would rattle windows and set off alarms going through town, it was great.

Если авто моей мечты это Dodge Viper 3 и 4 поколений, то мотоцикл моей мечты пожалуй CBX 1000, очень интересный аппарат
А кастомы да, какие только не делали, даже V12 на основе L6 двигателя CBX 1000
If my dream car is a 3rd and 4th generation Dodge Viper, then my dream bike is probably the CBX 1000, a very interesting machine.

CBX's and spare parts are drying up. I remember buying up all that I could in the 80's and 90's. I could get a beat up runner 79 for as little as $300. At one time I had 9 79's, an 80, two 81's and an 82 in my sheds. I've owned 24 CBX's over the span 1983 - today (I still have my first - a now mint restored early 79 with a rare SuperTrapp Stainless 6-2, my mild custom 81 tourer, an I am building a modded 79, plus have another 79 frame, and two more spare engines and shelves of new and used parts. And with how rare and expensive the stuff is getting, plus Honda having basically discontinued nearly every part, I won't even sell a bolt from my collection now, except maybe to another CBX owner to keep his on the road.

I owned a 1979 CBX and also a 1979 Kawasaki 1300cc 6cyl., when new both bikes had their sweet sport but the CBX was my favorite the first time I lifted the front wheel it came down hard but even with stock pipes it sounds incredible. My plan is finding the right one, wish I kept the one I had!
The Kawasaki 1300 was setup with the fairing & hard bags rode from Ohio to Nova Scotia with a couple of friends R90S BMW & a Honda Goldwing, there was nothing that the Kawasaki couldn’t do but pass a gas station I could literally cruise at any speed. Great memories!

having owned 2 CBX's a 79 candy glory red and a 81 touring model I know lots about them. I tried to modify the 79 but frame and swing arm was crap. I put a Cal-Fab swing arm on but still didn't help due to toothpick like front forks. I bought the 82 which was in a accident sold the engine off to fund my project of putting the 79 motor with a OMT 1168 kit in it and Ricks Tricks 29mm smoothbore carbs. I modified the frame to accommodate the 79 bodywork put on CB1100F handle bars and front fender a Fox shock for the mono shock system put a 13 row oil cooler on it with braided steel likes also braided steel brake lines. I kept the original vented disc brakes put put on the silver rims from the 79 model even though the black Comstar wheels could accommodate slightly larger tires, they didn't look as nice. I put on Metzler ME99 rear and a Laser front tire. The bike after all this work could keep up with a GSXR until 110mph then the aerodynamics of a 8x4 sheet of plywood took over. It had so much silky smooth torque it would out pull the GSXR with 2 people on it. The other thing about a CBX they are so nice to wheelie you can wheelie them for miles but not recommended because you would go dry sump and ruin your crank and cam bearings. I used a Basani 6-2-1 header and sounded awesome. Did a mild port on the head which made a ton of difference. After it was all done the fuel economy actually doubled!!!

I remember growing up in the late 70s/ early 80s, my next door neighbor bought a Honda CBX, he revved the engine, rattled the windows, pissed off my parents, me??? I ran out of the house to check it out, I'll never forget that day, I had a motorcycle years later but the only thing my skinny young ass (back then 😂)could handle was a Honda CM 450, it was ok and kept me out of trouble but I'll never forget that CBX and the crazy sound it made😊

Next video can you speak about the Yamaha 97-99 ThunderAce 1000 cc
After watching your first video of the cbx1000 I got so excited on doing my own project.
I went out and bought a thunderace rolling chase with custom r1 fairings on it. Need to overhaul the engine
But with this type of bike you have so much room to work besides doing a few customizations on it.
I'm excited to see your next video's. If I didn't watch your first cbx video I wouldn't have found the passion to get another rebuild.

About 15yrs ago British Aerospace engineers were given blueprints for the 6cyl 250 grand Prix engine from the 60s, they were amazed at how complex the level of engineering was. If you want to see a brilliant engineer at work you should check out Allen Millyard on UA-cam, the guy is a genius, he builds all sorts of bikes from 5 cylinder two strokes to V10 monsters....

Thanks for your great video! The CBX1000 is also one of my favorites. The cbx sas also out of my budget, so i bought a Cx500 and built a pretty cool caferacer😁. You can check my bike on my channel.
Be careful with your K100 project, as i ended up spending double the budget a had planned at first.

As the owner of a full custom cbx1000 bike you do not buy a bike , you buy a halo motor and it's legacy other than a guzzi v8 there is no better wail of a motor. To clear things up f1 sound like a cbx 1000 at full noise. Nuff said

Always thought the cbx irrelevant, corporate masturbation, BUT your talk of making sensible power and handling hummm now that's an idea, although it will always be like riding a sideboard! Lovesya!

@@Theillestrator1050 :) I get around the webs. I'm sort of an engine sound nut, very particular. But that varies from cars, to airplanes, to bikes, to trains and ships etc.
