Just stumbled across this. David and I were friends between 11 and 16. We lived in the same street in a small country town in Bedfordshire and used to muck around together. Music was an important part of his teenage life. It's great to see he has done so well in a tricky and really tough industry. Take the beard away and he hasn't changed much at all. Still has those steely blue eyes. He wasn't that bad at school. His Mum was lovely and always happy. His brother was smart and his sister ended up singing in a successful pop band. Lovely to hear him reflect on his life. Well done David.

I love this format - them speaking to their reflections in a mirror, yet arranged to look like a split screen. Clever. And the naturally casual yet informed approach by Ms. Stoppard is refreshing as she is responding to what is being said, not forcing the direction of the chat by refrering to a fixed set of questions.

This interview seemed like psychoanalysis... which he was willing to subject himself to. Lent it self to great sharing and insight. BTW: Banging drums means something. I know what he meant, but nothing human beings do is without meaning.
