March 2022 update: My Grandfather Vincent (The Barber) is still alive, and very much well. He just turned 80 in September 2021. I wish I can add photos onto the comment here to show you guys. Believe it or not he still cuts hair for some of my family members in his home!

Maybe I'm biased but I think that early 90's "alt-rock" will be viewed as a classic age in rock history similar to "new" sounds from the late 60's and early 70's.
TackyRackyComixNEO Good point. After a decade or two everything gets recycled in the hipster bin. I'm just wondering, that as a teenager during these years, I'd I'm too nostalgic about the time period.
I mean, everyone gets nostalgic for the music with which they came of age, and there's certainly nothing wrong with still enjoying it. Just gotta remember not to let that blind you completely and be able to keep an ear out for further things that sound good to you, and to be able to look at older music or music from your time period with the same kind of critical eye as you might new music. Most importantly, though, just enjoy what you enjoy.
In 1992, I was talking to a girl called Kat and she said that in the future they will look back on the 90's like we then did the 60's. I wondered how anyone could know that ahead of time? But well, here we are, and the general consensus from those of the generation who then were only being born, or weren't, for a few years after, is that somehow, some of that same type of magic was transferred, at least in as far as the record of music from that time period is concerned, (but that was a pretty obvious comparison at the time, really!) I don't think the 90's were all that comparable to the 60's, because the 60's even now are recognised as an even more powerfully active time of change in many more areas still impacting on modern life today than ever were there any similar movements in the 90's, apart from the music (of course) and maybe some of the movies eg 'Fight Club' and these are all that exist today to judge the 90's by, since the importance of the 60's has been dissipated by the passing of the ideals of the hippies and the beatniks so there's not as much to compare the two by, but I guarantee you, as a baby born in 1968, there was more palpable social change and excitement in the air, charged as it was with the acid fueled anticipation of major social, political and cultural revolution than ever there was in the MDMA tolerance building 90s which, sadly, saw its end made even more bitter by Cobain's generation X betraying suicide and finally, the plastic cherry on top that was the anarchy quenching fizzer spoiling the 1999 NYE party to end all parties for the year 2000, during which everyone was slightly worried they'd wake up on Jan 1, 2000 to find a broken down world where every computer had crashed thanks to the dreaded Millennium Bug, which itself, like the oft and long promised 'coming revolution' of the 60's, never actually started. (Well, not yet anyway!)

I love this because it reminds me of when I was young and still full of promise. I’m 44 now and life has proved to be a giant letdown. But back then I still had so much ahead of me. I didn’t want to die. I miss the 90s.

Marc, I saw the same Lollapalooza tour that year too. It was in Austin, TX and Steve was up there singing in the blistering TX heat. Then out of nowhere some COMPLETE MEATHEAD, DOUCHEBAG throws a heavy, wet, rolled up newspaper that hit Steven directly on the top of his forearm while he was trying to play. Steven continued playing right through it, not missing a single chord and said something as non-offensive as possible about it, held his composure and finished their performance. I felt so bad for Steven and hoped he didn't think everyone else from TX was like that. Class act guy that Steven.
Grew up listening to this on 89X (Detroit/Windsor, the greatest alternative station ever). Would record to cassette and make mix tapes from the radio. Now there’s a lost art.
Summer 1994 … I was living in Seattle & playing with a band you’ll never hear of. My apartment on Roy Street .. Tending bar at the Mecca … a girl named “Ronnie” … I’d go back in a minute.
Saw them one summer at Pittsburgh's Lollapalooza in the late 90's. I think they were on the smaller, second stage, but I can't remember. It was sunny and hot- like sunburn hot. Relaxed atmosphere. Blankets in the field; people resting everywhere in small, nebulous groups. Nobody minded if you walked right up. This was before cellphones, so people would say, "how's it going, man?" and then offer you a... something or other. Everything picked up speed and energy as the day turned to evening, but that day seemed to take forever. The girls were slender and young. They wore Earth-toned day dresses, but often jeans with medium bells on the bottom. Their jewelry was also Earthy, and it tended to be visually interesting but inexpensive. Their styles were not at all as exaggerated as those 90's clichés will suggest, but it could be tacky and over-the-top at times; nevertheless, to my young male mind, they were as beautiful as they were intriguing. Lots of hacky-sack in the crowds: some of the circles would contain more than 50 people, all calmly playing in the field. Professionals would quickly show their skills, and then pass to give someone else a chance. Oversized hippie hats everywhere, just like the _4 Non Blondes_ girl wore. Nag Champa, Coppertone, and pot smells hung in the air. Big, baggy green corduroy pants, tie-dyed _Grateful Dead_ shirts, and that popular mushroom/sun album cover from _Sublime_ could be seen everywhere. The booths were stocked with hemp jewelry, Devil Sticks, polymer clay caned crafts, nickel bowl pipes, Kokopelli flute player knick-knacks, and sand-filled satin lizards. People were friendly, but strange. Never felt awkward, though. If you're still young, enjoy the weirdness of it all! Just be careful.
Remember in the 90's when the 70's and 80's folk hated 90's music, now the 90's folk hate modern music and I'm sure 10-20 years from now the nostalgia bomb will hot them to, people love shit if it reminds them of their past.
Rob Smith a lot of older folk love the post grunge 90s rock because it had similar energy to what we grew up with late 70s early 80s punk ,power pop new wave
Beavis: I hate it when you go to the barber, and it's like, he starts cutting your hair and then he goes: "Soooo, how's school?" Butt-head: Yeah. I usually say: "It sucks. Now shut up and cut my hair before I stick that comb up your butt!" Beavis: You know, Butt-head, um, maybe that's why you get all those sucky hair cuts, y'know? Maybe you should try being a little nicer, yeah. Butt-head: Beavis, I'm gonna shove a comb up your butt! My hair looks cool!
holy shit, your comment just instantly transported me back to the early mid-90s, seeing this episode right before I went to get my learner's permit. you've done the lord's work here. Thank you
Saw them live once; knew that song was gonna be huge when the lead singer walked back & forth onstage holding the mic out and the CROWD was like: "ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ….ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh. ooh ooh-h-h!!"
If you want to go back to the 90's and discover PAVEMENT, listening to MILLY (FURNSSS) will make it happen. I recommend Ring True. This MV is a scene similar to Cut your hair. You will definitely shed tears:)
This song is about worrying that in spite of your success where you've ended up these days is not all for the good and that it will change you in ways you can't come back from. Compared to tracks 1-3 and 5 on the album, this track (#4) seems zany and unserious, but if you listen closely the same emotion is there. The singer is reminding himself to remember who he is, not to let them turn him into something he is not. Listen to this song after "Stop Breathin" (track 3) rather than as a pure single and you'll hear it differently.
This is bringing back 90s memories I don't have, I was there but I'm hearing this the first time! This sounds like the intro song to a 90s teen sitcom that doesn't exist, and I mean that in the best way possible
The reason why I loved this so much when I first heard it is that I was stuck in a world of 90's mainstream alt rock and grunge. This totally blew my mind and they will always be my favorite band for that reason.
I'm here because I actually remembered the name of a 90's band! This song reminds me of a wonderful time in my life. I was in my twenties, making money, driving fast around the Beltway in DC and had nice clothes. Suddenly I want to go to the hairdresser! 😂

Just be careful.
pocket83 what a comment, thanks for that journey
pocket83 sounded like a good time man
That sounds like my youth. I was one of those professional Hacky Sackers :)
cringe
Remember those days well, ah the 90's
Remember in the 90's when the 70's and 80's folk hated 90's music, now the 90's folk hate modern music and I'm sure 10-20 years from now the nostalgia bomb will hot them to, people love shit if it reminds them of their past.
Hit*
Rob Smith a lot of older folk love the post grunge 90s rock because it had similar energy to what we grew up with late 70s early 80s punk ,power pop new wave
Pat White That's awesome
I love all old and modern music.
Rob Smith then why do i like 60-70 rock the best and hate the music from my youth years (naughties)? lol your theory has some holes
One of the classic MTV Videos, they don't make them like this anymore. So off kilter and yet fun, and the band's cheesy acting hit the mark too.
+Bored Now cause alot of mainstream music videos now are overproduced and take themselves too seriously
indie bands still make videos like this. check out weakened friends or charly bliss
@@miked4309 like The Chats
they look so laid back too, you can tell this was a ton of fun making this video.
I know right? Now it's all greased up naked girls all the time.
Esses caras são originais de mais queria muito ver um show do pavement.
This video tells the truth of that no matter how you change your outward appearance you're always YOU 💯
I just love this song the first time I heard it was on The Brady Bunch Movie and I saw the music video for it later on on MTV these guys rock😇😇💕💕❤☺☺
Mlk! Pavement é pica!
NO BIG HAIR!
one of the coolest music videos ever
Beavis: I hate it when you go to the barber, and it's like, he starts cutting your hair and then he goes: "Soooo, how's school?"
Butt-head: Yeah. I usually say: "It sucks. Now shut up and cut my hair before I stick that comb up your butt!"
Beavis: You know, Butt-head, um, maybe that's why you get all those sucky hair cuts, y'know? Maybe you should try being a little nicer, yeah.
Butt-head: Beavis, I'm gonna shove a comb up your butt! My hair looks cool!
The CPW Network HuHuHu
holy shit, your comment just instantly transported me back to the early mid-90s, seeing this episode right before I went to get my learner's permit. you've done the lord's work here. Thank you
Love this
Mrs. Brady and David spade salon scene.
I saw them at Tree's in Dallas back in the mid to late 90s. They were the main act and BIS opened for them. It was a great show!
I saw the cat and I fell in love with this video
Things come and go ,that's life ,that's beauty of it
I'm a boy and I got a haircut today. I identify strongly with this song.
There is absolutely no one let out of the eternal circle after this song. What a great song.
I love it when he trips over the table lol
Wow...tiny little houses must of worshipped this band😎
Esta música marcou a geração do rock alternativo nos anos 90. Uma das melhores bandas do gênero, na minha opinião.
When I was young, I was thinking: "Man, Corey Feldman sure plays some good bass."
If you want to go back to the 90's and discover PAVEMENT, listening to MILLY (FURNSSS) will make it happen.
I recommend Ring True. This MV is a scene similar to Cut your hair. You will definitely shed tears:)
Wowow! Thanks for the great discovery😊
"Did you see the drummers hair?" Ha, brilliant song, and rad to cover. I'm really diggin' the shimmy he did before lifting that table too.. ;D
Beabadoobee introduced me to them with her song about Stephen. Now I too, wish I was Stephen Malkmus.
WHAT NO SAMEEEEE
Damn I completely forgot about beabadoobee
@Di Di i thought it was cracking the pavement-
timeflower how would that make sense
ME TOO
This is bringing back 90s memories I don't have, I was there but I'm hearing this the first time!
This sounds like the intro song to a 90s teen sitcom that doesn't exist, and I mean that in the best way possible
90´s the best decade EVER
mario velez true
no, 80s is
No the 20BC's were
Every one says that about their coming of age decade. But i agree :)
90's were fun.
Thank you Graham for introducing me here
The reason why I loved this so much when I first heard it is that I was stuck in a world of 90's mainstream alt rock and grunge. This totally blew my mind and they will always be my favorite band for that reason.
The ALL-TIME Best. Pavement for President!
La palabra "clásico" no cabe en está canción. Demasiado bueno!
Greatest song of the 90's
What would you give to live one month in the '90s again and what year would that be?
Still groundbreaking music today..awesome track..ageless brilliance
머드가 노래 추천 해줘서 왔어요!
This was one of my smoke sesh songs for a while. I love it ❤️

Quirky classic. Great era for indie. Thanks JJJ Australia
명곡이다 진짜..
Just bought tickets to watch them at Blue Dot festival in July 2023 ❤

Hey look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Pavement. they're cool, its a newer band from my home country (new zealand)
wow blast from the the past..had forgot this tune
It’s so funny him putting the crown on Malkmus the king of indie rock
I'll never forget Michael Palin picking this video as his favourite on UK TV's 'Live & Kicking' with Zoe Ball in the 90's.
I fucking luv this shit and always will TIMELESS!!
Look around, around, the second drummer drowned.. LOL I love this video, it's so surreal.
The beginning reminded me of charmless man by blur
Great video and song. Awesome band.
KOREA KOREA KOREA
+teeheesamson heh heh
+teeheesamson That's what I always thought he said too. I was living in Seoul when I first heard also. HA
HURRY UP HURRY UP HURRY UP
:o
He says both career and Korea. Interchangeably, like the alternations between "night" and "knife" in _New Orleans_ with Silver Jews.
I'm here because I actually remembered the name of a 90's band! This song reminds me of a wonderful time in my life. I was in my twenties, making money, driving fast around the Beltway in DC and had nice clothes. Suddenly I want to go to the hairdresser! 😂
Beavis: "So, how's school?"
