    Gm changed from a flared fitting to an o-ring fitting on the power steering lines some time in the early 80's. You can use a stock 1986 power steering hose without an adapter, and it will work just fine.

    Hi guys, I'm in love watching you do the swap on the LS. I know that this trick work for me a few times. I don't know if it'll work for you but, but I take him the pressure regulator out of an old pump like I have a 68 Camaro and used it in a new modern pump, it worked for me. That way you don't have to use the adapter from summit. I don't know if it'll work for you. I can't hurt the check. If you look for it yourself it's a thought. Thanks again.

    And... if you want to give the steering wheel effort a boost-meaning make it feel less easy to turn, or give it more "road feel" by slightly upping the effort required to turn the steering wheel-you can change the flow control valve out to a 2.5GPM, or even a 2.0GPM. They are widely available on the internet and will greatly increase the steering wheel turning resistance. When I swapped my 70 C10 over to LS I found the steering was SOOOOO easy.. Like you could parallel park using just a pinky finger.. Then I swapped out the flow control valve and got the wheel to a point where it felt much more comfortable. It then lost the cruise ship steering wheel feel, and got something closer to like what a performance car, or even the newer import cars, feel like. I LOVE making these modern updates to the older vehicles. And.. if you really want to upgrade the steering, you can use a mid 80's truck power steering box that has fewer turns lock to lock! You can get 3 turns, or less, lock to lock, which is also a great upgrade to the steering. Fewer turns, and more resistance, make for a "tight" steering feeling going down the road. LOVE these old trucks. Great job on the video! You got a like from me!

      Great info! We have the close ratio gearbox on our 70 C10, and the LS pump made a huge difference in how it drives. But now you're making me want to play around with the control valve and see what happens. Thanks so much for liking the video! We appreciate you watching!

      Hey Salvatore. Sorry to just now respond. If you have a manual steering box. You will have to install a power steering box and just run a pressure and return line to it. You may have to adjust the tie rods afterward to make the steering wheel straight, but that is it. Thanks. Jerry

    Stupid question. I did my lines the same way you did, so I know they're right. When I first started my engine I forgot to put power steering fluid in (it was empty). It didn't make a single sound. It didn't run but maybe 10min without fluid. I have since filled it and worked my steering from lock to lock several dozen times with the engine off and with it running. I have zero power steering. It's full and doesn't make a peep. Is it a bad pump? I guess Ive never had a pump go bad on an LS with my other vehicles.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  11 місяців тому +1

      No such thing as a stupid question here! Your pressure valve may be stuck. It's on the back of the pump where the pressure line screws in. You can try turning the wheel back and forth with the engine off to free it up. If you can do it with the front wheels off the ground it's a little easier. Those pumps are really tough. You could run it without fluid for a long time before it would burn up. Let us know how it goes! Thanks for watching! --Jerry and Emily

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  8 місяців тому

      Hey Gary. There is a plug that is made specifically for plugging the vacuum port on those manifolds. They are used on the trucks with hydroboost. Here is a link for an aluminum one. The OEM are plastic. www.google.com/shopping/product/11535207499144862754?q=ls+vacuum+plug&sca_esv=0a002056b542477b&sxsrf=ADLYWIJttlR8oSBD2CGQtuApGQxG8B1_dA:1715799635621&ictx=111&biw=1231&bih=575&dpr=1.3&prds=eto:2326625722502819540_0,pid:9682403238389560163&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjY-Jztq5CGAxUw4MkDHR6yBHgQ8gII-wkoAA

    On the pump
    Which one is pressure ?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  11 місяців тому

      The threaded fitting on the back bottom of the pump is the pressure line. If your donor had hydroboost, it will have 2 return lines that just have a flared steel line for a hose clamp. You'll want to cap the return on the side of the reservoir and use the other for your return, if you don't plan to use hydroboost on your swap. Hope this help! Thanks Israel! --Emily and Jerry

    I have a new pump on a 383 for my 85 square body 4x4 the pump is a flare style I believe and my lines are o ring style. Do they make an adapter for that? I bought the one you mentioned thinking it would work and it does not

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  11 місяців тому

      Hey Shawn. If you still have the pump that you removed, you could take the fitting from the original pump and install it into your new pump. The adapter that I was referring to went from flare to o-ring. You might have to get a hose from a earlier year with the flare if not. The earlier hoses were flare and somewhere in the early 80"s they went to the o-ring. I screwed up in that video and gave the impression that they were all flare up until 87. Not sure why your pump would be the older flare though being an 85. Jerry

    I bought that high pressure for my 86 camaro. The fitting that goes into the steering box fits properly except when it bottoms out the hose is still free. Is there a fix for that? It will rotate freely and lift up and down. In the video it said it works with 67-87, are there exceptions to that?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Рік тому +1

      That 86 Camaro original hose should fit directly into the LS power steering pump without any kind of adapter. As long as the bends in the hose reach the pump ok. If it is an O-ring fitting I am not sure why it would move around in the pump after being tightened. Look that fitting over good and make sure it is the correct thread. Let us know what it turns out to be. Thanks Jerry

      I should have read your comment more closely. If your running just the computerized transmission it would probably be easiest to use the aftermarket controller. Probably not the cheapest though. If you were using a stock controller I would think that the ecm would just need to know rpm and the speedometer signal. That would be a question for a person that does the programming. Shift points would probably need to be programmed for whatever your running it behind. Thanks

    • @scottwithoutadoubt1405
      @scottwithoutadoubt1405 2 роки тому +1

      I’d recommend the stand alone controller, the stock computer uses inputs from the engine that one may not be able to map out of, and unless you can provide an alternative input it will mess with your transmission shift program. Unless you have a really good person to reprogram.
