I love hearing these stories, but also totally get Jon Cryer's feelings of seeing somebody crush the role and you can't be upset
"Any of us can have anything, but none of us can have everything" ~ Robert Downey Jr.
GREAT QUOTE
But we can't*
The desire to have everything, shouldn't even be a thought. As it reveals the absence of humility. Having everything that necessary, isn't the same as having everything just because.
It's not his quote. He's paraphrasing Peter McWilliams quote.
You can’t gave everything… where would you put it?
That Seinfeld story ironically sounds exactly like a situation from the show.
I get where Sarah Silverman is coming from about AMC 😂 Back in the day it was one of the few channels that played movie classics all day. Like being asked to audition for a serious show on TV Land
But her ego got in the way of a lot of roles 💀💀💀💀
@Victor Alexander this, whatever entity looks over us saved one of the best shows from getting completely ruined by her
I don’t.
AMC means American Movie Classics… 😅
Bob Schimmel blowing the Constanza role was the most Constanza thing he could have done 😅
Should've hired him for plot ideas
Whoever decided to do this compilation format, please make it a regular thing!
"Any of us can have anything , but we cant have everything " agree
I’ve never heard that..I like that..Agree.
I like how Robert said you gotta leave before you flip out. Absolutely, good life lesson.
Stern staff finally doing some work! Brilliant collection! More like this please!
Claire Danes in Homeland is irreplaceable. Such an awesome acting performance on a very complex character
She is beautiful.
Memorable.
“Gonna pickup some beer, stay at home and stare at my Claire Danes poster!” - Size 14 (1997)
Emily seems so grounded & focused and I really loved hearing her perspective. I found it inspiring 😄
Kind of funny watching Howard project his jealousies onto these actors.
Exactly.
He repeated the same question “don’t you get mad?” 😅😂
😂👍
Well radio in general was so cutthroat in his time coming up that you had crush the competition.
Hes projecting common emotional responses to loss or failure. Obviously you have some weird bias about stern and his motives.
Wow Jon Cryer being offered to audition for Reservoir Dogs is outta left field for me.
Tarantino wanted Travolta for Vincent so why not Cryer for Pink?
@@toddpeterson2992 he looks so young i didn't realize cryer was almost 60 lol i thought he was in his 40s
His brain must have been fried after making hot shots.
I can imagine him as Mr Pink, though. I can see why QT chose him to audition.
Goodness gracious Scarlet Johansson is gorgeous
Edit: so is Emily Blunt and Claire Danes
I love that Howard confirms IMDb trivia.
howard: were you pissed you didn't get the role?
everyone: no. it's fine.
Howard: Really?!?
Everyone: Yeah
Howard: But when you see it are you angry?
@@SammyCamilleKyleEveryone : no
Howard : Don't you think you would have done a good job
@@AhmadAneeq Everyone: No.
Howard: If it were me, I couldn't handle losing out on all the fame, money and awards.
I'd say things turned out okay for Scarlett Johansson even without that Jumanji role.
Yeah, she's bigger than Dunst and Lohan now
All thanks to Home Alone 3
@@Robcobes Johansson was in Home alone 3???
They turned out okay only because she was able to screw over Emily Blunt.
MOST HUMANS take things "personally", when they shouldn't.
EX:
skill isn't why most actors get cast.
The director / casting agents HAVE SOMETHING IN MIND INSIDE THEIR HEADS......and whichever actor FITS THAT Vision, is the winner.
I've cast loads of people, and I have to remind them that they don't get it or fail to get it based on SKILL etc etc.
The marlon impression is spot on!
Robert Downey Jr's outlook and words are wise beyond his years
He's in his 50s. "Wise beyond their years" is something they generally say about young people.
@@Nathan-gd7xq 50s the new 30 look it up silly 😜
You can thank someone at one of the treatment centers he visited for that quote. lol I dont mean that as a dig, just thats probably where he heard it.
Interesting hearing Emily Blunt saying all she has is the choices she makes, as that was a central theme of a movie she starred in with Matt Damon.
@Wynn _The Adjustment Bureau_
I can't imagine Two and A Half Men without Jon Cryer.
I think a perfect actor for a perfect role.
Mediocre actor in barely mediocre show
Jon Cryer looks astoundingly good bald. I'm shook.
He was bald for Lex Luthor in Supergirl tv show :)
The reason they are not bitter is because things worked out for them with other roles.
Downey can be dismissive wrt $70m because he gets that from Disney.
x 5 !!
99% of Howard's interviews:
Howard: "Isn't it true that ?"
Guest: "No, where did you hear that?"
Asked in a whiny voice.
The most interesting part was Emily Blunt talking about being contractually obligated to do Gulliver's Travels
i know! that's sooooo weird and rare!
She was willing to do whatever to be in a movie w/Meryl Streep. That’s the deal. She made that deal knowing it would make her career. She got paid for Gulliver’s Travels. She just felt after DWP it was beneath her.
Love how you are cutting these stories together.
Always fascinating hearing what actor could have been in some of your favorite things.
Love the compilation!! More please.
Christopher Reeve was born to play Superman.
James Caan, who is a great actor, would have been a horrible choice for Superman.
That would have been the quintessential case of miscasting.
James Caan would have been a typical choice back In the 1960’s
They teased Robin Williams to play the Joker to get Jack Nicholson to take the part… I actually would’ve really liked to see Williams’ performance as the Joker, because he’s such an amazing actor. Same with Riddler… he was already cast as the Riddler when Tim Burton was gonna direct Batman Forever but was let go and replaced with Jim Carrey when they replaced Tim Burton with Joel Schumacher as director
Lol a young James Caan as Superman. That would have been AMAZING
Love it, only Howard can get away with asking these questions
RDJ: "Any of us can have anything, but we can't have everything". Well said.
Such a great quote from Robert Downey Jr.
To hear that from Scarlett about Parent Trap is so interesting because I’ve said a million times that if Lindsey Lohan had kept her shit together she could have easily played Widow. She was natural red and already had a relationship with Disney from PT and Herbie.
At the time, Marvel wasn't owned by Disney yet so that relationship wouldn't have helped. I didn't see her Christmas rom-com from last year so I don't know if she's still got it but I'm rooting for Lindsay and I'm hoping she has a great comeback down the line.
I agree if she did not rebel so much against being one of America's Sweethearts she probably would have gone on to grander things as she got older, instead of being fodder for the paparazzi for years.
Too much, too fast, too early. This is probably what Claire Danes meant when she said she didn't want to do Titanic because she wasn't ready for the fame it'd bring her.
One thing Sarah Silverman hits on here that I think has been forgotten a bit over time: "Friends" is a _terrible_ name for a TV show
It's better than the original.
So is Seineld. Even after it was changed from The Seinfeld Chronicles.
All I got was these actors for one reason or another couldn’t do or didn’t want to do these roles and all worked out as it did. All of their careers worked out in another way
Always interesting to hear stories like this, great compilation!
James Caan would've been all wrong to play Superman. Christopher Reeve being an unknown at the time was actually perfect for the role since he didn't have any baggage of knowng him in other roles before being Superman. If James Caan was Superman it would feel weird seeing Sonny Corleone as Superman.
That was very entertaining. I want more.
James Kan cracked me up with the Superman story!
There’s an interview with Paul McCartney on the show where he says the director for the original Romeo and Juliet movie wanted him to be Romeo. The director insisted for a while as he really wanted Paul for the role but eventually gave up after Paul said he couldn’t act well enough for the role
😂
That would've been very distracting anyway. That and the actor they went with was much better.
4:38 Howard gets caught making up a story that he heard 💀 😂
“I really needed… another experience” 👀
Mr. Pink was a good role.
It was no Mr. White, or Mr. Orange, but it’s was a good role.
i can't picture anyone playing Alan then john cryer
The thing is if a different actor gets a part, then the role can be molded towards a different direction that fits the other actor better. So maybe Cryer's Chandler doesn't get to be iconic for his sarcasm but for something else. Having said that, the whole series might tank or not be as popular because the character doesn't connect the same way.
Holy shit that Emily Blunt one broke my heart
Love this compilation! Do one on how people are affected by fame, you’d get VIEWS ON VIEWS
Nothing against Claire Danes but I think Kate Winslet was great in Titanic.
She was ok but the movie was a chick flick
Claire Danes is just so beautiful
Absolutely. Naturally too
I'm trying to imagine Claire Danes as Rose and it's just not making sense to me. Winslet was absolute perfection. I can picture most of the other substitutes but not that one.
🎯🎯🎯
I think she couldn't see herself as rose either but she just couldn't say that. lolol
Claire Danes deep thinker love it
I think she'd have been fine. Same role as Juliet basically. That movie wasn't about the acting.
Will Smith was the first choice for Neo in the Matrix, but Keanu Reeves ended up with the part… I could actually see Will Smith as Neo believe it or not
For these compilations - need VO of the guests name before their segment. (for blind people, or audio only listeners)
Title should be "Stern telling actors how badly they messed up" lol.
1:38 - RDJ is so color-coordinated here.
I remember I was offered the role of Johnny Bravo and Greg Brady got it. Oh wait! That's a recurring dream I have.
The Rock was supposed to play Johnny Bravo in a live action movie but it was never made
😂
I would cast scarlet Johansson as my wallpaper if I could. Absolutely nothing wrong coming home to that sight everyday I tells ya.
Auditioning and not getting it is not the same thing as turning it down
Nor is declining to audition for it.
There are no roles that Steve Buscemi plays that could have been played better by any other actor. None.
Might I add that Buscemi isn’t a big actor, he’s a character actor which means he only plays supporting roles and small roles in movies but that’s probably better than being a big movie star
Agreed.
Crazy Eyes esp 👀
facts
Hey. What’s the significance of the 8412 in your name? That number is part of my phone number.
Silverman being in school of rock is a bigger flex than anything
She killed in that film.
@@spinflux lol her role was minor
@@Seryma86 She killed in that role.
@@Seryma86 It was one of the roles of all time
Love Robert Downey. I bet he'd be great to sit and have coffee with ... just chill.
I'd be imitating Kirk Lazarus the whole time.
13:44 notice how different Howard talks to non A list celebs
It was glaring....
but not surprising 😕
He has always done that.
Stop projecting. Howard had robert on the show frequently, and the had a RIP on the show when he died.
@@OptimusSatanas obviously not projecting
That Mario Puzo Superman movie with James Caan would have been awful.
Love what RDJ said
ESTO ES UNA PXTA OBRA DE ARTE! 🙌✨
Steve Buscemi is awesome
RIP Bob Schimmel and Jimmy Caan.
Howard projects his own shit so much. He's so out to lunch
Agree. He has a negative bitter vibe & pushes it onto his guests.
@@HollyHargreaves It’s funny though. How the 1% lives.
Howard always looks for the bitterness and pettiness because he is bitter and petty.
But it does lead to more interesting answers. Without a dramatic conflict, a script or story isn't interesting, and Howard will manufacture a conflict if one doesn't exist.
So many actors showing how not petty they are and how they know their own business, despite Stern baiting them.
My favorite is hearing juilette Lewis almost had Lydia Deetz of Beetlejuife but it went to Winnona Ryder.
Now that’s a role that I couldn’t see anybody else in except Ryder… she nailed the quirky, gothic girl character
… same with Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, he’s so amazing and played that character so well that I definitely can’t see anyone else on that role… not even any of the big time comedians
Wonder why Coppola didn't pull in Lewis for Godfather III when Ryder backed out instead of using Sofia.
RIP James Caan
Im really curious on that Emily Blunt story being contractually obligated to do that movie
Scarlett is a pure delight
I would have loved Claire Danes in Titanic ❤️
her and leo hated each other on romeo and juliet
Chemistry...Leo and Claire didn't particularly get along in Romero and Juliet. They didn't speak outside of work. Leo and Kate hit it off immediately at the reading for Titanic. They both loved practical jokes, hung out after shoots, and are still great friends to this day.
@@tmac2798 when she said “I really needed another experience “ 👀👀👀
@@tmac2798 which one didn't pay their taxes?
@@tmac2798 Probably the real reason she turned it down but she didn't want to say it.
I think Howard Stern is missing the fact that some of these movies turned out to be successful because they were cast perfectly. And some of these actors would have been tied up with projects that may have prevented them from their own major roles.
Being told to audition isn’t close to being offered the part
Interesting to see how many of those stories apply to regular life.
Prob Laurence Fishburn turning down pulp fiction was a big what if
Baz Luhrmann admitted in an interview that Leo and Claire hated each other on the set on Romeo and Juliet. I reckon Claire was being polite on why she turned down Titanic.
Howard rubs it in !!! Lol
Thank god Claire Danes turned down Titanic. Not the same movie with her in that.
I’m fairly certain that Kate Winslet was cast in Titanic before DiCaprio. There’s footage of her doing a scipt read with Jeremy Sisto as ‘Jack’
They could've been auditioning people while they waited on LD.
Reading a script does not imply already being awarded a role.
A lot of different actors read with each other to narrow down the process and see the chemistry or lack thereof. Leo didn't first read with Kate either.
Any of those roles would’ve turned Sarah Silverman into a superstar
Jon Cryer really would've fit both characters
Howard wants them to bitter 😬😬😬
I want some pink sunglasses like robert dwny jr
Could he beeeeeee a better Chandler 🤔
@Monty McCarty. Yes, I agree, he woulda been fine, but no way could he have been Mr. Pink! 😆
AMC & Mad Men dodged a bullet!
James Caan for Superman? That worked out.
RDJ would’ve been really good in that Gravity role
Oh, Howard Stern once offered a part in Halloween franchise, i wanted to know how he feels for not able to take the role.
Ya sarah cuz we all know your acting range knows no bounds
Schimmel missing out on Seinfeld wow
I love how pretty much all the actors seem to avoid getting annoyed or bent out of shape by Stern’s deliberate taunts. He’s such a 💩 stirrer!
It's his trade.
Matt Damon turning down Avatar has to be the biggest one
Anyone know what RDJ sunnies are??
Reba was supposed to play Rose's mom in Titanic. Although it would be hard for me to see Reba in such a role. It didn't match her personality. She is nice and generous.
Linda Hamilton would’ve done good
How can any guy avoid being in love with Emily Blunt?
