I love you so much. I JUST bought this camera and loaded my film in and i noticed that problem with the meter. I was worried i had gotten a faulty camera and stuff and i was litteraly about to cry because im big broke. You saved my day and i reward you with the highest respect from some random teenager who loves photography. I hope you wake up well rested for the rest of your life and may luck forever be in your favor
Just put a new battery in a Nikon FG I bought in thrift store. You just explained why without film the light diodes are stuck flashing at 60 and 125 second ! Thank you I knew it had to be something only the internet utube could tell me! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much. I thought the metering needle was broken in my FE2. I was quoted £85 for repair, but luckily you have saved me a lot of money. As soon as I advanced to frame one the needle worked. I’m so pleased. Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much! I just bought a Nikon FE2 (for my brother) and it had the same thing. I already have a Nikon FE and never had that issue, the meter just always works. Thank you very much. Whoever at Nikon ever came up with that ... idea ... must be a very, very smart and thoughtful person. :-P
What if my light meter still doesn't work when it passed count "1"? A few days ago I inserted the batteries in the wrong direction (wrong charge). Could it caused a circuit burn or something?
Thank you so much Jeffery i was starting to freaking out thinking my camera was broken hahaha, thanks you very much my friend for taking time to explain this little solution!
Thanks, I was ready to chuck the camera I had purchased for re-sale. I had forgotten about cocking the shutter three times before the metering starts working.
Can you only see through the viewfinder if the batteries are on it? I changed the batteries (a 3V DL 1/3N) but am not able to see through the viewfinder. I am able to cock the lever and roll the film on the Bulb or M90 setting (or so it seems). Maybe its just defective?
Hey Jeffery! I'm trying to solve a metering issue I'm having and stumbling across your informative video. My light meter stopped indexing with my aperture halfway through a roll of film. So, it's not this film advancing issue. Do you have any tips on how I might solve this? I took the lens off and its fins are moving correctly when I move the aperture wheel, and that little piece on the inner rim of the lens that communicates with the body is moving well, too. I'm wondering if my camera is dead... Any insight would be great! Thanks!
Just discovered this video. Helpful. One question.Should the shutter work at all speeds as you advance the film lever? I put a new 3 volt battery in the camera and I can see the metering indicator but the mirror locks up when I press the shutter. It only comes down if I move it to the M90 or Bulb setting. Thanks
@@JefferyAHoward Thanks for the tip. I did load new film but when I press the shutter at any speed it freezes in the mirror up position. I have to rotate the dial to bulb or M90 for the shutter to close. Will have to get it checked out.
Recently I bought The Nikon F3 with AF Nikkor 50mm F1.8D , but when I checked the inbuilt light metre with my sekonic light metre (external metre) the Nikon F3 reads two stop under for example , The Nikon F3 reads 1/60'th & aperture F8 with ASA 200 AND my sekonic Light metre reads in that particular situation reads as 1/60'th & aperture F4 with ASA 200 so u can see the difference. Do u think it's good idea that I should always adjust my aperture with two stops based on my sekonic reading Because The Nikon F3 didn't work without Batteries & when I put batteries inside F3 it's reads wrong ? The Nikon F3 is a semi manual Focus camera. I have to put batteries inside or else it won't fire shutter.
It think a would shoot a test roll of film.I would use the Nikon's meter and see how the photos come out. You will easily be able to tell if the Nikon is under exposing the film.Thank you for watching.
Great video! Thank you. Is it normal that the meter doesnt work after advancing the film ? The Needle doesnt react when camera is ready to shoot (but the meter seems to choose times correctly).
hello ... I don't speak English but I think I understood you about the photometer at the beginning ... but is it normal for the photometer to flicker like at the beginning at any moment of the film? Maybe it's a caractristic problem of this model or maybe my camera (I bought it recently) is wrong ... thanks and I hope you understood me I used the google translator
Thank you for the nice comment. Your channel and your work is amazing. I am both humbled and flattered that you would notice and like my small corner of UA-cam. Thanks again!

Many thanks. Saved me a lot of time. Not used to old Nikon cameras and their quirks.

The shutter should work at all speeds when a lens is connected, the lens cap is off, and the film had been advanced to frame 1 after loading.

@@gcnphilly The same has happened to me, I think it is because it has some kind of current problem, because I have also put new batteries.

Hello. Tell me please, from which camera the lever for Nikon FG can come?
This really saved me for a camera project! 🙏
Great video! Thank you. Is it normal that the meter doesnt work after advancing the film ? The Needle doesnt react when camera is ready to shoot (but the meter seems to choose times correctly).
Thank you for commenting.
I don't think it is normal for the needle not to move.
My FM2 Light Meter only shows the Minus sign. Do you have any suggestions?
I have never used the FM2 so I am not much help there. Best of luck sorting it out, and thank you for watching and commenting.
Did you manage to solve it?
Thanks for this my dude, thought my lovely FG was broken :')
Thank you for commenting. I am very happy to hear this video helped you. I love the Nikon FG.
By the way, it clearly says that in the instruction manual on page 11.

That doesn't sound normal.
SIR I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Can i use external light metre while shooting with this camera in manual mode?
Yes I think that would work.Thank you for watching.

@@JefferyAHoward Oh I am a nobody ㅋㅋ No worries, keep up the good content, us smaller channels gotta stick together
my counter frame nikon fg wont reset to "S" , its stuck at 20 whenever i open the back, its still stuck there.. any help? thankyou before
It might be something inside of the frame counter linkage is stuck. Thank you for watching.
It's not a problem though and nothing to solve, it's the way the Camera is designed, maybe if people actually read the Manual. FFS
