I was very pessimistic when I saw the song title. I grew up listening to the original. But, I was blown away by Jamey's rendition of this song. He is so talented and how he managed to make this song into his own proves it to me.
I am NOT a "country" fan at all but was curious when I saw this so gave it a listen. I liked Meatloaf's original but felt it could be more. This has so much depth and emotion - love it.
Well hell, I'm late to the party!! Never heard this before. I've alway loved Meatloaf's original, but unlike some youtubers, I can appreciate both! Just my opinion, Meatloaf's was an incredible performance. Jamey sounds like he having a conversation. Thanks for the upload.
i wonder why he didnt put this on his new album I'm a huge meat loaf fan but this is a great cover I can't stop listening to this 👍👍👍👍👍 my my...such a beautiful voice!
It's all right you tubers if you appreciate Meatloaf's classic version better. I grew up listening to Meatloaf and love listening to him very much. That being said, you can't expect or even think for one moment that Jamey Johnson isn't going to sing any song in his own unmistakable and amazing style. It's unfair to criticize based upon how Meatloaf sounds. You can like it or not, just try to be fair about it.
This is excellent. Steinman has said in the past that he envisaged this as a Hank Williams-style country song so its certainly not a stretch. I still prefer Meat Loaf's version but its just a damn good song regardless of who sings it.
I like Jamey's rendition of this,, a lot. No need to "WAIL" (not "whale", unless you're talkin Blue or Sperm ;) Jamey keeps it in perfect 1st person 'conversational' so that you almost feel like you're right there,, listening to him speaking to the girl, with the added heart & soul in his depth of the lyrics.

he did this song live on the Imus TV show. it's on youtube.

Absolutely love this version but Meatloaf's original still a stunner. Two different styles but both at the top of their games.

Oh yeah I'd like that it would be a pleasure to finally have someone to lesson to what I say
