This was such a cool vid idea. I would love more of these vids that have a bit of historic element to them, I ran to my sax halfway through this!

I always point this out to jazz saxophone students who only listened to jazz saxophone.

It always amazes me when jazz guys hate on classical music when the people that created and developed the music enjoyed it. Sidney Bechet said he got his vibrato from listening to the singers are the opera house in New Orleans when he was a kid. Although when I hear jazz players say they don't want to study classical I just assume they mean they don't want to study technique.

Ronnie Cuber quotes it on his "Moanin' Mambo" solo. Of course, after I heard that, I always tried to work it in somewhere.

Yeah, the Carmen lick is a legendary quote. Another one I like to use is from "Rhapsody in Blue", I used it at a gig and the trumpet section said "Whoa!".

The baritone saxophonist uses this as his opening phrase on his "Moanin" solo, Mingus Big Band - Nostalgia in Time Square (1993). I listened to it 100 times in a row when I first heard it. LOL

I always comment to my students that you can draw a direct line from JS Bach to Bird/BeBop

Hey Jay, it would be great if you could organize the same kind of event you are doing in Manchester in Barcelona. The people at SaxOn (Big Sax store here) might be interested and the studio bricks factory is like 2 miles from where I live. I would be glad to help out as well. Think it over.

Calling jazz the classical music of the future is very wrong

Both genres aren't enjoyed by anyone except by insiders. Why not.
