I WANT Sonic levels that stress me out. Because the rush of narrowly winning and the afterthought of "what the hell did Sonic just go through" is amazing
Some of the romhacks I've played do their best to recreate that feeling, but it's tough to pull off as masterfully as stages like this. Still, though, if you're looking to relive the magic, romhacks like Megamix and those collections might get you there. (And I wanted to add, I know exactly how you feel. Sonic games and sometimes Mega Man games give me that feeling. Love it!)
@@RedSpade37 The only reason why Sandopolis 2 can be tough is the endless sandfall if you do not know what you are doing. The timed doors are annoying but not tough by any means, bar the last puzzle in Knuckles story. Apart from that the level is fun and if you want a challenge do it with the ghosts at max strength
I love act 1 of this zone...but act 2....the ghost...the rising sand...the timing....that button pushing....it was a miracle if I made it to Lava Reef Zone
And that repeating vertical level wrap... I can't tabulate how much time it took me to get out of that sliding sand loop. Honestly that was the main source of consternation for me in this level.
I honestly love Sandopolis, The way how its currently being the most obstacle-used zone in the game and the obstacle it self out pretty creative, Especially the Timed Pully in Act 2.
Goddamit this soundtrack doesn't have one single miss. This makes the level even more anxious and claustrophobic, I'll always remember dying from time over on it as a kid.
I love how act 2 is literally just act 1 but slightly slower with a heavier bass and yet it feels like a whole new experience. Kinda like how visually, act 2 in the main game is just act 1 with a different background and yet it changes the whole atmosphere.

I always liked the songs from this zone but when it felt like it was taking forever, I’d get sick of it. Even though the timer goes up to 10 minutes before death, it still felt like it’s took me like an hour and a half to finish this zone. Sonic 3 is one of a kind❤.
I retract my statement about all bass (can even call that a bass, I mean seriously) and DAC combos are great. Because there are exceptions to every rule, like every desert level is cool.
I like this zone only because those those use to be cool to be back in the day even though it was a frustration but it wasn’t worse than trying to figure out the spinning up and down shit.
@@zzzenith_zzzone That might be the best description of it. Between the harsh grind of the bass line, and the increasing bite of the main line, it makes it feel like tomb is trying to consume you. If you don't see the tricks to make it through, *THE TOMB SUCCEEDS* . Interestingly, once I understood how to get through most of the puzzles, it became one of my favorite levels to try and speedrun or explore.
As someone who has really only played certain sonic games but left the classics to their own thing. For reference, heres what i've played in that field Sonic unleashed wii and ps3, sonic colours ds, sonic generations 3ds and pc, sonic forces, sonic frontiers and almost all of mania by no means are some of them good, i I decided to go play the classics and work my way up Sonic 1 angered me, close to how unleashed has when i was alot younger. Boring visuals, lackluster stages and music and a pathetic excuse for a final boss Sonic 2 was enjoyable, challenges final boss, best music. My favourate of the classics by far Sonic CD was actually really fun! i had lots of fun just wandering about, exploring the stages and their past and future variants and vibing with the music Sonic 3 & knuckles... i was expecting better to be honest, with how much everyone seems to butter it up. It wasn't bad per sey, it was just mostly uneventful. Had some difficult moments. I was dreading reaching the sandopolis moment that seems to scar all of you but i actually completed it my second try so get good :p Sonic adventure is probably the worst sonic game ive played to date, the controls, the look of the game, the voice acting and the gameplay are just somehow all equally as garbage as each other. I know it was their first outing into 3d but there are glaring issues at every turn and you gotta stop to think "how'd they not see this?" Still playing through sonic adventure 2 currently, its... worse than what i've heard though. very rarely getting to do anything fun at all. Hey! looks like you completed a sonic stage, That was fun right?! well tough shit heres a knuckles level then a tails level then a boss as tails then another knuckles level. that gravity section was awful, i was inches off of having an anxiety attack

The bass changes from act 1 to act 2 reflecting the fact that you get trapped in the temple with the ghosts on the second act.

I hated that part at the end of the sand, at least 3 ragequit moments
fast moving platforms, pushing a switch while sand rises up, that would probably make me shank my genesis
That DAC at it again!! I've always hated this zone but I can't say that this song doesn't fit it perfectly!
My favorite part is that different bass rhythm at 3:17 between other busy parts + broken beat pattern
