New Junk City - Earthworm Jim (Genesis version obviously :P) is another prime example. Probably because the bass line is near identical to Flea on RHCP - Higher Ground. The release date of the game and song both are suspect as well...but then again, during this era of VGM, there was quite a bit of ‘creative borrowing’ from other songs.
I love when PSG 1 finally comes in to harmonize with Channel 2! I found myself looking for the higher pitch before it finally hit on 6:47 and it was so satisfying
This music scared me as a little kid. Actually stopped playing the first time I got to mystic cave. Now i think it's one of the best tracks in the game.
I got this game for my eight birthday and I was so scared of getting through Hilltop Zone cause Mystic Cave was next and I was terrified of the music! Finally I got the bright idea of just turning of the sound when I got to Mystic Cave Zone and that helped me get through the level. Always died on Oil Ocean boss fight though
The thing I love about sonic music is that it always meshes so many elements of different genres together. This sounds pretty funky, while Casino Night Zone is definitely jazzy
Classic New Jack Swing style. I love how the Sonic games back in the early 90s incorporated the New Jack style into some of the background tracks, as it gave a more funky groove to the Sonic games and matched his personality. I know that times have changed but I miss those days and wish that Sonic games would still have those funky type of grooves.

Just want to say I’m loving these videos. I played these games as a kid at the age I was getting into music and remember trying to pick out the different instruments in my head to understand how the tunes were made. I’m now a programmer so it’s really interesting to revisit these from a development point of view. Don’t mean to be cheeky and ask for requests but I hope you’ll put one or two of these together for Streets of Rage. Stage 1: Fighting in the Streets is one of the best MD tunes in my opinion and I’d love to listen to the elements and hear them come together. Keep up the good work!

You know , i always related this song to sonic and tails in a way. The spooky slow parts are how tails feels , small and scared. The bass and beat are super funky and fun sounding whish is how sonic feels , like its just a fun party or smthn
A groovy song for a level that, to be honest, isn't hard when you play it again. Just take the bottom root and you'll avoid most dangers and in the mobile port find Hidden Palace. Also that bass made me move so fast that I might catch Disco Fever.
These videos are great. Even though it's not a Sonic game, I'd love to see deconstruction videos on Streets of Rage 2 tracks like Dreamer. That soundtrack doesn't sound like anything else on the Genesis and I'm really interested to see how it was arranged.
This masterpiece possibly convinced MJ to compose Sonic 3 music. The composer certainly was inspired by Michael's work, I can hear much of it here and there, all over the music. This is probably my favorite song from Sonic 2. This rocks so hard and gives the chills at the same time!
I never would have realized that Channel 2 and PSG 1 are mostly the same, but just *slightly* different before this deconstruction. Really makes ya think!

For those who don't know, the instrument used on Channel 1 (AKA - The Bass) is actually the same instrument used as the main melody of Labyrinth Zone.
