Seems quite startling at times the aural difference! I like the overally warmer more open sound from the QY70, in contrast the rather "overcompressed" tibre of the Qy100. The QY70 greatest indeed possibly the only weakness with it IMHO is the distinctively older (GM/XG) patches that cut through - especially the pre-2000 XG guitars and drum kits!. The QY100 suffers from a strange habit from Yamaha: this is subtly worsening some of their products inadvertently while trying to improve things. The Motif series is a prime example -MOTIF ES vs XS vs XF just lose something ([playability/functions/sonic character) as the series goes up. Same thing with the PSR's that came after the 8000/9000. Brilliant video otherwise👌
I absolutely love the punch the QY70 offers in the drum kit department, no doubt. I have a large collection of samples and some drum machines, but as you very well put it, they surely cut through the mix. I will receive a QY100 in a few days, can't wait to compare and try out mix and matching stuff with both.
Why does the QY70 sound better then the QY100? are the EQ's the same? usually something that is newer should be better? I remember the QY300 sound better then the QY700 I guess it's the same here?
The EQs are the same, yes. I think the differences aren't exactly in the quality of the sounds (if you compare single sounds QY70 vs QY100 you will hear that the 100 sounds a lot more realistic) but in the way the sounds are polished. The 70 has a much rougher and by that more characteristic sound while the 100 sounds just neutral.
QY70 has the more cheesier 90s sound while QY100 has cleaner "studio" oriented sounds. its a toss up though. some tracks the same snare sounds so fat on the 70 and thin on the 100 but quickly swaps around on other tracks. if i had to use one word to describe each: QY70 dirty, QY100 clean.
Hi. How do you Export / Import MID files fron your QY70/100. I have downloaded your MID files and like to run them in my QY70 but I cannot find a way to import them. I have a UM-ONE Midi-USB interface. Also installet the Data Filer but it cannot communicate proparly. Do you use some other software? Or maybe you are copying from the Smart Media card?
The Data Filter has an option "SMF to QY" or something similar. If you established a working midi connection between the QY and your PC there should be no problems sending them. Things you might have done wrong are: Swapped in and out cables, set the "To host" switch to something else but MIDI, set the QY's MIDI In filter to "sysex" (can be done from the utility menu). I, however, always use the smart media card. Simply copy the mid via a card reader onto the card and load it using the QY100's card menu.
Imagine if they built these 2 together as a mod with both old and new sound presets omg!
For me is absolutely clear the best sound of the QY70, also in the midi files made for the Qy100! Thanks for the review!
So and now we hear the Sound is near the same, but the QY-100 have better "Low End!"

Strangely, i thought many of,- escpecially the intros, sounded better from the QY70...?! (with the 70,s instruments)
feeling these differences as well. qy100 seems more substantive unless you prefer a watered down sound, which can be nice.
I have a QY100 which is great , but was real upset when my old QY20 died , something about the QY20 was magic.
me too
Same for me
Yeah the way you worked with the patterns was a lot better imo. I used the QY20 for four albums until it died.
I remember the first day I got my qy20 when they first came out , it was like a little magic box .
Not so with the qy100 .
Ahh the good old days 😀
Now I know why I thought the music for every last anime had the same guy making the music! his name is Ceuw Whye

What if you played both together like layers it would sound like 👌
Звук записывался с микрофона видеокамеры? Может поэтому мало низких частот ?
по мне так наоборот дофига баса на протяжении всего видео, что отвлекает и немного мешает

Did you ever make the tutorial on mounting backlight on the QY100?
MrKeys57 Yes, on my main channel, JayB.

Do you need a special adapter to use these in the US? The ones I see for sale are from Japan. Thanks!
Anything that outputs 9-12V with at least 300mA on a barrel plug with + in the middle.
Yamaha QY70 better sound
70 better
