I have both type of plants, and like both. They are very different. Like the variety of leaf shape philos have, but do like the compactness of Anthuriums. Not so fond of how ugly Anthurium leaves can get as they age, and the lack of leaves that can occur, but nothing is as beautiful, except the black velvet alocasia, as the dark velvety leaves of anthuriums.
That's really true, 145 philodendron plants in my garden very recently I started to collect anthurium. sometimes philodendron are really headache when they climbed up to the pole
Loved this video it says it exactly as it is with Anthurium. Yes started out with the queen and no longer have her lol. It’s all a learning curve and plants are there to teach us the good and the bad. I’m now loving my little Anthurium collection, starting most of them off as seedlings, it’s so rewarding watching them grow from 2 leaved tiny babies into plants in their own right. 👍💚
Loved everything about this video- great production quality, contained information people NEED to know and perhaps a few more people will give Anthuriums a try. Thank you!!!
I love my philodendrons much more over my anthuriums but your videos have inspired me to venture into more anthurium plants…I recently have purchased a new Peru imported Anthurium Monster after I swore I would buy no more. My Queen is amazing and I’ve even propagated her but other than that I struggle with my Variegated Anthurium Pterodactyl 😓 She hates me. Her roots are AMAZING but she used to have many leaves and now only has one. And just stays like that now 😢 Mere is what I call her.
I hate to be a contrarian but due to the special Inzerra substrate my philos and anthurium get the same level of care and they both thrive! So ty for that 🙏
I only have anthuriums. My easiest have been all the ones you mentioned that are not :-) and they all were my firsts :-) I guess it depends on conditions. For me they all have been light thirsty. Yes, we can manipulate the lighting to make them darker but, if you notice you will see their neck (part that attaches to the leaf) turning to the light source. I have all in a moisture retentive, well draining, aerated mix under grow lights some almost right up under it (the queen is one of them) and she is loving her life. Growing in 50% humidity.
I think people are scared of Anthurium because they listen to others who say you have to put them in a cabinet and humidity is a must, which is sad. I am so glad I didn’t fall into that trap! My Anthurium are gorgeous and now that I learned they actually prefer lower light, no additional humidity, I am trying to make more videos about just that so others aren’t afraid. I am not a Philodendron gal I doubt if that ever changes.
Yes! Change the narrative! I showed a pic of my IKEA terrarium to someone and they saw all the anthuriums in it and said “oh yeah I heard anthuriums need like 100% humidity.” And I was like oh let me enlighten you.
Seriously, I was so scared of get an anthurium! But after finally doing some practice on semi hydro and no-drainage potting, i’m ready to give it a try!
I just discovered your videos today🎉🎉 I am a fan. I love the way you put your videos together mixed with some sarcasm and humor. It definitely keeps them from feeling boring yet they have a lot of good information for people like me expanding their plant addiction 😅
I'm Colombian. AKA Aeroid Heaven. I moved to Philadelphia and I'm just learning how to grow plants indoors. I know little about growing Anthuriums, other than they, just like Begonias, are finicky and they detest changes in growth conditions. You've empowered me. My goal for 2024 is to grow a couple of Anthuriums. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@@plantgayforlife It's very tourist friendly now. This is not the 90s. If you want to go, let me know and I'll make a few recommendations regarding places to visit that can offer guided hikes, a little bit of beach, a little bit of mountain, etc. We have everything from Caribbean and Pacific coastlines to snowy mountain peaks to desert. Who knows, you keep making these educational videos, you might even take a tax write off for the trip.
@@Anil18834 i plan to visit panama and do a vid there in the spring. i originally wanted to of to columbia but the US travel guide has many areas of Columbia listed under "reconsider traveling here" which sounded iffy. and many of the juicy aroid hotspots are in those remote areas. but id love to chat more about it on instagram if you have any recommendations! 😁
WOW! I just found you because I went to my first Equagenera pop up and was searching for videos. I am SO SO happy I found you! omg tho…I bought a huge Queen, pallidiflorim, amd and a beautiful …….. Something Maria!!!! I know you just said not to start with a queen but……..I have so much faith. And now will use no drainage when I pot up! thank you, My name is Mary from Boston 😂 and you will see a lot of me here! also, my daughter went to college in NY and I love it there
Yo! Wow! Thanks for this encouragement! Very clear, so new way of describing, so well put together info! I feel empowered enough now try hybrid Anthuriiums. Thank you once again!
Clicked for the channel name and subscribed for the sass, great video! I haven’t cared for an anthurium yet…mostly bc my home is slowly becoming a begonia forest and I have no say in the matter.
So true! I've rarely had any issues with my anthurium and honestly, in a pest outbreak, I can still bring them into the shower, unlike my almost 2 meter high 60cm leaf long Splendid... it takes so much longer to care for the Philos 😅😅
Love this video! Comparing anthuriums against philos was satisfying to see. I have a few anthuriums (crystal, veitchii, and a magxforgetii) and have been holding back from getting more because I've been thinking my philos are gonna get bigger, but they've only gotten more annoying! 😂 I'd love to see an alocasia video. I feel like alocasias have gone out of trend, but they are so beautiful, and a large percentage of my collection is alocasia.
Your videos definitely give me courage but I still haven't experienced any stress with my philos so it's hard to overcome the stigma of anthurium I guess 😅 Got my first one a Angamericanum and it's struggling a bit but I guess my biggest problem yet is that I cant really read it? Like are the yellowing margins a lack of potassium or over or underwatering?? Well see how I do ❤
Funny to hear someone say that philo growth is to fast cause I must just be impatient cause they still are very slow to me 😅 2 - 3 years till maturity is what I often hear?
Anthurium angamarcanum is not easy to care for. It’s similar to the queen anthurium. Try a hybrid, they are much hardier and better houseplants for beginners!
@@plantgayforlife oh welp already got it 🤣 But thanks for the comparison I honestly couldn't find much info online but I got it for 15€ so it's not that big a loss 😅

Yes, I find anthuriums easier than Philos because they're less temperamental. Philos just melt when you over water them and there's no going back. Also Anthurium hybrids are cool.
I completely agree with you on this! I was so put off of Anthurium for so long until I decided one day to give them a try and I absolutely fell in love with them ! For every single reason you stated here . 💯💯💯🤌🏼

In your experience, what are the cultivation differences between Anthuriums and Philodendrons? How do you cultivate one and the other?
What are you referring to exactly? They are both produced through seed, propagation, and tissue culture.
