The Reason Rare Plants Are DARK & VELVETY
I just found your channel and I love it 😂 I’m sad I just found it. Could you share any Carla care tips for us riding the Carla struggle bus 😩 please
Welcome! In my experience they can be slow growers and slow to root. If you could be more specific with your exact struggles I might be able to help. I also just put out a video on the fascinating discovery of carla that you should definitely check out. It’s my latest video!
@ yes I watched it. I loved it. So cool that you got to speak to Miss Carla Black herself. She’s a queen! I find them to be rotting on me really easily. I usually put all my anthurium in perlite then transfer to pon. I never had a failure doing this until I met Carla. lol. I have 3. two had rot and no new roots and the other is growing new roots doing really well. I did suddenly add nutrients and didn’t slowly introduce them so I wonder if that had something to do with it?
Maybe try sphagnum moss or tree fern, I use that or a homemade aroid mix where I add a little of whatever I have on hand like charcoal, pumice, small bark, things to loosen it up, but probably half of it is tree fern and moss. My Carla got root rot when it flowered on me and i almost lost it after growing it for a year. I rerooted it in moss and now it’s finally putting out big leaves and flowers, though it still needs time to bush out and look pretty. I find it doesn’t need a lot of light. Kind of light a dressleri or pap. I grow in vases and keep mine moist all the time. I don’t worry about humidity. And I don’t fertilize a plant while it’s rerooting. If I’m rehabbing an anthurium that has a bad root system I tend to blast them with light to the point where they get just a bit bleached on the leaves. I don’t care about looks, I want them to capture as much energy as possible and grow out that root system as quickly as possible. Once they have secured a good root system and have put out a healthy leaf or 2, then I feel comfortable chopping off ugly old leaves and putting it in a more medium light setting.
Loved it!
She is my wish….that doesn’t have anything to do that my name is Carla 😂😂😂
That’s a bonus!!!
All those plants are tiny, lol
so is your foot
Amazing discovery! ❤️❤️❤️
Is that something you would be interested in doing or is it something you’d have to go to school for?
I have no interest in becoming a botanist. I just love growing plants and exploring nature.
@ Ah I think you mentioned that before in a video
I much prefer making UA-cam videos and music:)
Your voice is perfect
I love your content, especially this type of content. Learning about the plants and their origins is really awesome to me.
Never knew any of this information and I thank you so much and I have been sharing your channel and will continue. I would like to see you with over one hundred thousand before end of year . I have my goal and your worth it . ❤❤❤😊 love you
Thank you so much for saying that. I appreciate it so much.🙏I’m hoping to hit 10k before I go to Colombia in March 🤞
@plantgayforlife your most welcome babe I felt I needed to give back for giving me so much . I just can't listen to one more message about politics which I have followed always but in the past almost 10 years has made me physically sick. It can be addictive and you are here to give me positive information I'm much more interested in you have come along for the health of many . Don't know what else to say . Your videos are a treasure.
@@plantgayforlife ❤️🌈
I’m glad you’re here🫶
Your voice is soothing, so relaxing ❤
Ive been waiting 3 years for variegated Philodendron billietiae, I thought price was going to drop and Its not happening, it upsets me because I know sooo many people has it now but prices are still in high 3 to low 4 figures in Poland, I hate gatekeepers and people trying to inflate prices sooo much higher than the actual worth of plants
I hear you, I too would love to grow that one but I can’t personally pay that much for a plant.
Pls make more of these vids I love them so much
What a legend
OMG! What's that dramatic violin that matches perfectly with those dark velvet gorgeous leafs! 😮 Congrats once again!! 💐
I love drama🎻
What mix is ur terra cota pally in ?? I have mine rooting in tree fern . Bad root rot . Has two yellow root nubbins currently. Looks great in terracotta
This was a while ago so I can’t remember, but it ended up not doing well in that setup long term so I wouldn’t have recommended it anyway 😅
Love these informative videos 🥰
Amazing, love this style of video Jake!
The carlablackiae has been on my list for a while. I really enjoy these videos for their information and I love seeing the plants in their natural habitat.
I'm glad you like these videos😊
Good stuff Jake! Such a precious story to our community 😊
Thanks for watching!
My anthurium villenaorum has been trashed. My Queen is easier than that plant ever was. And CONGRATS Heather!!!!!
We’ll see what happens with mine
Another great video with great content! Thanks.
My pleasure!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
yay we're learning today!!! 💚💚 love it😊
Beautifully decorated home !
Thank you!!🥰
OMG I just love, love this video.😍😍😍😍
☺️
Anthuriums are pollinated from fruit fly’s
Some may be, especially those with foul smelling inflos, but according to Tom Croat Anthuriums are primarily pollinated by Euglossa. That being said, there’s been very little observation of this, and even some botanists have claimed to see hummingbirds and moths visit anthurium inflos. So it’s probably a community of pollinators.
@ Ah ok. Thanks for the information
Best video😮😊
Hey Jake, this documentary was very entertaining. You are a good story teller indeed!
I appreciate that!
I love all your videos but your docs brought me to the channel and everytime one comes out I immediately watch it.
Glad you enjoy them! I enjoy making them😁
Absolutely fabulous video! I know how much work goes into this level of editing, and the contributions from Carla Black really take it to a whole new level! Good stuff!! 😀😀🌱🌱🌱
Thank you! Carla really elevated this one with her storytelling (much of what I said was her exact words).
Great video Jake! Thank you 😊
Thank you! 😁
These videos are so informative and my favourite. Thank you from an Aussie anthurium collector.
Appreciate it😊I still can’t get over the fact that my videos reach people so far away! I know the internet ain’t new…but still 😅🙏
Always the best. I love my Carlas! A women going into that narco territory? Bad ass. She stuck a few in her backpack in Peru and hiked around for days and I panic when it ships in 3 pounds of stuffing. Kinda sad we buy them for $300 and those people have nothing.
Plants are resilient and so are the people who discover and collect them in the wild!
Oh yea Queen of Carla has about 15 🤣😂😂
My Carla refuses to extend her stem so I can propagate her and make more!😂
Another wonderful video!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and doing all the work that I'm sure goes into such comprehensive information.
Much appreciated! These videos usually take only a few days to a week to make. But this video has been months in the making cuz I wanted it to be perfect.
@plantgayforlife it's very thorough, and all the footage was fun to watch! You really have a skill set here. And growing plants, of course.
Thanks for making so detailed educative plant videos 🫶 warm greetings from Costa Rica 🏳️🌈🌴🏝️🏡
Costa Rica is on my list of places to travel to see aroids! Where in the country do you live? Have you gone on any hikes and seen any cool plants??
@ I live in a wonderful place Turrialba, close to a volcano area y lots of mountain area, summer rayne did a a video in “el catie” if I’m not mistaken, love leaving here ! Lots of orchids and aracea in general growing everywhere!
I’ll look into that area to see what I can potentially find! I definitely wanna see Anthurium scherzerianum when I go to Costa Rica😍
Another awesome video Jake. Thank you! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Love this Jake!!! I finally have some history behind the name! Keep them coming! I get so confused over the Anthurium names.
It’s amazing how much you can unpack in a name😃
I got bvep x red crystallinum seedlings from fb marketplace and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I think I’m gonna cross itself back to bring out hopefully the antalokii traits once it matures
Nice! Sounds like a plan😎🌱
Bro this shit has me tearing up ❤❤ so beautiful
I’m a geologist and roadside is how we learned!!! Keep a safety vest in your bag for next time :)
We were trying to be discreet and quiet just in case it was private property, there was a house not too far off, vests might’ve given us away😅
I love these videos! It gives me great respect to realize how we came to have these amazing plants in our homes.
Yes! There’s so much to appreciate!😁
Love this, keep up the good work!
need information about composition of NPK fertilizer please Thanks
In my opinion, you don’t need to worry about the NPK ratio for aroids unless you are trying to grow them really big and breed with them. If you’re growing them as ornamental houseplants then they are not very fussy about their fertilizer in my experience.
I absolutely love your story telling and it is very educational especially, with going down the anthurium rabbit hole. I just love the solace the plants bring me and I enjoy providing their care.
You have the right mindset. Anyone who clout chases plants ends up crashing, so you gotta grow what you love and love what you grow😌
❤❤❤ I Effin luv it when you do the informational videos Jake. I could listen to them on repeat. If you had a podcast I’d be addicted. 👁️❤️this videooooooo!!!!!! #JakeIsTheEffinMan🪴🪴🪴❤️❤️❤️
The podcast would have to be HEAVILY edited. Because these 10 minute doc videos are actually just the good takes out of 30-60 minutes of me clearing my throat, messing up then proceeding to say FUCK, cussing at my noisy neighbors, and swatting away the occasional gnat.😂
I am glad I got one Carla recently here in India 😊
Glad you found one!
Such a fascinating story about perhaps one of the best looking anthuriums we have known. And the narration made this story even more interesting!! Great work!!
I’m so glad she had photos to share!
S U B S C R I B E ! Up to 100K. It may take a while but every subscriber counts.
What an adventure! Thanks 😻
We love a good plant adventure!
