George Carlin was on of those comedians that got better with age. We need more people on earth like George Carlin, Henry Rollins. Interesting people with something to say.
I was in line for the Rollins book signing at Tower that he references. George Carlin did indeed stop by and talked with some of us in line and posed for pics. He bought a Soul Coughing cassette. I was truly starstruck. Great guy. Rollins was cool, too.
But, being insecure about one's craft, is a different animal. Low self-esteem, can come from different places, and I'd not judge it, anyway. Love Carlin, but, not everthing he said was gold.
What a sad little person you are. Shouting out your anger over a dead man into the great empty nothingness of youtube. You should try to do something positive instead, might make you a happier individual.
Henry Rollins has managed to not only make George Carlin wait in line to meet him, but have him consider his material funny without being a comedian. That's talent, right there.
I especially liked the humble brag about his time hanging out with Ozzy and about how Carlin wanted to meet him and waited in line to get his autograph
You don't need to, man. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Compare the topics George talked about in his old specials and compare them to modern times. Apart from a few dated references to early tech and old actors and politicians, those specials aged beautifully. They still hold 100% true today as they did back in the day
I have never seen Rollins in an interview before. I had no idea he was so down to earth. Nothing like some respect for a person to make you like them even more.
i always wondered how George carlin got on Thomas the tank engine back in the 90’s once i got into comedy and realized who he was and that he was in my favorite childhood tv show.
Sorry Rogue Planet, but Henry Garfield RUINED Black Flag. It was much better with Keith, Ron, or Dez singing. Henry turned it into jock rock angry macho crap. I'm assuming you're just a youngster, therefore you know not of what you speak.
huge fan of this guy always a person first and foremost never lets himself get too high , and a real musician artist took a long time for him to get where he is a lotta determination
Keanu Reeves is like that. So dedicated to the craft that he will take a pay cut to get the right actor on board. He did it with Devils Advocate so Al Pachino could work and I think it was the best decision he ever made for that project.
Also met George carlin. Not technically met but I was a deck hand at his show one time and he was so gracious and deferential with me it was shocking. The man you see on stage vs the man in real life. I’ll never forget that.
When Henry mentioned Lenny Bruce helping young comedians with their acts, it reminded me of Jerry Lewis, when we Teched the National Tour of "Damn Yankees" at Eisenhower Hall at West Point. While the Introduction Music would play before the curtain went up for the first act, Jerry would talk individually with the young Actors, and give them advice on their performances. He was very gentle with them. When he first arrived at the theater, our Crew was on Coffee Break, hanging out on the loading dock. Jerry came up and talked with us for a 1/2 hour, asked everyone's name and Never Forgot them! It was a Great Month in my career!
Henry is beautifully describing the artist mentality. At no point is money mentioned. That is the devision of popular and passion. The best could and have died broke or at least with far less than they deserve. Its a rare thing , but sometimes the masses see genius. Mostly though, goes unnoticed.
That's hilarious!!! At 1:00 when he's mentioning the story of this rock star worrying bout nobody showing up, before Henry even said it I was already thinking that's gotta be Ozzy haha & sure enough! 😆
Unfortunately, how he met Lenny Bruce wasn't an accurate story nor was it how he got arrested with Lenny Bruce(it did happen, just not that way) . But I agree. :) I posted a comment explaining what George had to say about that in his book.
