When my life completely fell apart as a young teen, I immersed myself in the wholesome, clever humor of books by David Brenner and Erma Bombeck, and I truly believe that it was part of why I am alive today.

"Wholesome" and "clever." Said something about you that this was the type of humor in which you took refuge. Glad you made it.

I was lucky to see him live, twice. Las Vegas and in a restored theater in a suburb of Chicago.

"Did you ever get a cured ham and wonder what it had?" Sounds like a joke that could have inspired a young Mitch Hedberg.

The greatest observational comedian of all time and he was from Philadelphia and his humor is sadly missed !!!!!

I was so sad to hear of David Brenner passing. I hope he didn't suffer too long with that horrible disease. I came here because I realized I had heard or seen him on TV lately. This was a hilarious routine and his personality was so cute. I just loved this comedian. A clean comedian that was so funny that his routines 20+ years later are still so funny. Prayers to his family.

I loved his bit about the bravest man in the world. It wasn't a great warrior or a police man or a cab driver. He said no it was the first guy to drink milk. Two guys were looking at a cow. One said I don't know what that is but I'm going to pull on those things and drink whatever comes out.

The thing about comedians is that even if they are just mildly funny (some outright tank), it is still entertaining and will prompt a smile if not laughter.

Millennials think Seinfeld was the beginning of his kind of comedy. No it was comics like Mort Sahl, George Carlin and David Brenner. Particularly, Brenner was Seinfeld before Seinfeld

As a kid, I always thought he seemed like a really nice, happy guy when I'd see him. This is very sterile. antiseptic, generic humor, but it was also very much what whitebread types liked.

I didn’t know who he was until Adam Sandler impersonated him on SNL. I figured Adam was overplaying how annoying his voice was and now I see he was holding back. I can’t listen to that voice for more than a minute without wanting to murder something.
