Very much appreciated. Some watches absolutely on the edges of disappearing as they are not a part of the heritage that these companies trade off today
As usual, fantastic work brotha. I'd say luxury digital is a niche category in the community overall but one that will always have a fiercely loyal fanbase, deservedly so. You just can't get any cooler than the steel/digital combo.
I know. I’ve realised that from the research. An unexplored corner of the hobby for me, but clearly some well established enthusiast there!! That’s what I’m all about - illuminating watches!
This is another fantastic video. Some amazing looking watches. I think some of the Omegas are great. I really like some of the analogue digital watches too.
aweeeesome video! I love dressy and sports metas digital watches and this video was so fun to diacover vintage models. im especially enjoying the tissot prx digital I got and the hanilton psr
Great video! I knew Omega did digital watches, and not surprised by the Longines ones since they were the sponsoring time counter brand during many athletic events back then. But that all these others was in the game as well was a mostly a surprise. So many cool models on display here. Keep up the good work.
Thankyou! Yes that was about my level of understanding before starting the video so was great finding out about it. A lot of it makes sense though as most of the brands under the swatch group umbrella
I really love digital watches. I subscribed your video a long time ago but finally got to be here today. I am also an expedition fan can you make one video with regards to its history?
Hey! I love the expedition too. I did an episode on Timex digitals, but didn’t focus lots on it. Let me see if there is enough material. You may enjoy the Timex episode if you’ve not looked already.
@@IlluminatingWatches ya sure i am timex fan too. I had seen a vintage expedition i control in my nearby store now will get it. As i was planning for it
Another fantastic video 👏👏👏👏 It’s so fascinating to get a glimpse at these companies during this period and wonder what might have been. I sometimes think about the whole mechanical vs quartz thing as being a bit like steam engines vs internal combustion. A new technology emerges that makes the old way of doing things functionally obsolete and is superior in almost every quantifiable way. It’s easy to understand why so many brands went out of business during this time. There’s so many awesome designs from this period. I’d love to add an ana-digi to the collection at some point and as a big Oris fan I’d love to get one of their digitals too!
Thanks. Really enjoyed this one as had no clue about a lot of the watches. Almost a forgotten era if there weren’t a core of dedicated folks that put great material out there that I was able to soak in
INCREDIBLE , AMAZING , WONDERFULL...NO COMMENT . HOW MANY MARKS , MODELS , FUNCTIONS , STYLES , DECADES , ETC , ETC . VERY NICE THIS VIDEO . GOOD FLAVOUR LEAVE TO ME MOUTH . THANK YOU . GRETTINS ILLUMINATING WATCHES ! . 👍☺👈
Interesting video, they were trying out the new technology because at the time nobody really saw a future for mechanical watches.interestingly, omega was offered in the argos catalogue with quite big savings in 1979 and 1980.
Amazing video as usual. Count me among the surprised, never imagined that swiss brands made such a variety of digitals back in the 70s and 80s. I think that digital watches are made for the masses, which seems against the whole luxury idea behind those brands. Thanks as always for sharing your research!
Very cool selection. I knew Omega were quite heavily into the digital world had no idea that Rolex poked it with a stick not surprisingly they went NOPE! 😅 Sicura I think as a brand deserve more recognition especially as they saved Breitling from the pit of doom I actually have an old Sicura diver obviously not digital though 😁 Great video.
Wish they would reissue some of these, especially as solar watches. Hopefully the Cartier solar Tank signals a new era of innovation from the swiss companies.
Oh cool I’d not checked out the solar tank. Yeh agreed - perhaps something will trigger them to reload at them one day. The equinoxe seems like a no brainier to me!
Are luxury digital watches any better than standard digital watches? I mean in respect of the actual mechanics, and not fit and finish... Obviously the internals of a Rolex automatic are better than a Timex automatic, but can you get " better" digital?
Of course - check out HAQ movements (high accuracy quartz) and thermocompensation used in models like omega x-33 . There is also the various functions available in the master of G models in the G-Shock range.
@@IlluminatingWatches Absolutely! I kind of like the modern Omega digital - only one I've seen in person... the ... looking it up .... Spacemaster. Don't really care for the pricetag tho :)
Ha ha yes fair. There is big variation in quality and there are some very bland options, especially when emulating the G-SHOCK style. But there are diamonds amongst the rough!
Brietling has 100% garbage service! Once your nasty Brietling needs serviced throw it away! Any repair including a battery will cast as nearly as much as the watch! Half the time they claim they cant fix it! So expensive soooo gross!
I have another video on fancy digital watches that you may enjoy here -> ua-cam.com/video/r35PJujlViI/v-deo.html
You have really curated the video beautifully.
A mind-blowing amount of detail! I've always been interested in watches, but never knew that there was so much to know about them!
Wait till you see the new Citizen video! I’ll send you the script
Thank you again for your labor and investigation into these watches that have almost disappeared from our watch memory and knowledge.

Now 2 years later, Tissot came out with the Digital PRX. A new addition to the list.
Great video bringing all of these different brands together. I want one of those Zeniths too!
Thanks so much! Really enjoy your channel. Love your omega. Pity the zenith cost £900+ on eBay. I’ve settled for another orient digital

Hope it lived up to expectations!
Thank you for Enicar! Hilariously I love their logo so much - for that reason alone I NEED to get one of their vintage mech pieces.
