This is awesome! I remember watching a show when I was younger where a couple turned a small cargo plane into a flying RV and remember thinking it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen!
A cargo plane would make a sweet RV!
One of the coolest planes on UA-cam. The RV setup looks pretty amazing too.
Wow, thanks!
This brought to mind a night I spent in my 172 one stormy night at Osh circa 1984. My tent was worthless in the blowing rain and I retreated to the front left seat which was the only seat in the 172 that had any reasonable recline capability. A long night!
I feel your pain. I've spent a few nights in small planes over the years. That's why I did this!
I like it... A pretty fast camper you got there!
Can't even get a speeding ticket!
I always thought (finances permitting) a surplus Navy S-3 would be an awesome RV plane. They have so much room!
That would be a great plane to make into an RV!
Awesome! Great job with the Sky RV conversion! Can't wait to see it at KOSH!
Thanks! Should be another great show!
@@KerryDMcCauley It'll be my 1st one... Can't wait.
That is so awesome! I've camped in a 182 pilot seat that fully reclined and it was great. I still have a dream of converting a Cessna Caravan into a RV and travel around the US. Flying and camping there is not much better than that. Safe travels!
I fly jumpers in a Caravan and it would be perfect. Especially on floats!
You're not the first to think like this! I always wanted a PBY Catalina and converted it into an RV. But the thought of those 2 big radials sucking lots of gas! But damn it would be fun to have!
A PBY or an Albatross would make the ultimate RV. But man oh man the fuel bill! I got to ride and fly an Albatross to Reno a few years ago. What a blast!
I believe a company did something of the sort back in the 50s.
@@rickunruh8132 I'll have to look into that for more ideas!
i did that with my shrike, i fly it all over the place this time of year, and my 2015 bell 407 fly it to the back woods in canada and north washington, all setup incinerator toilet back seats are comfy, i was up in the back woods lasst week on a remote lake, stayed 3 days, the new new shower wipes also are great for camping,
Sounds perfect!
Wonderful! I have a powerchair in which I went to Basel in Switzerland in December 2023 [from Cambridge, UK], as a Patient Fellow at the Motor Neuron Disease Association International Symposium. When on trains and in hotels, I sleep in that, with my trusty breathing machine [bipap or nippy], but it doesn't have the same kudos as a Queen Air RV!
One of the main reasons for buying the Queen Air was for my father to ride in. I'm sure I'll be able to get a powerchair in there someday.
Love it! We aren’t heading to OSH this year but I can’t wait to see your video with your setup on the field.
I'll post a video from Airventure.
Pretty sweet.
Great idea.
I think so too!
Thats a pretty sweet Queen Air ride!
You'll have to come over and check it out at Oshkosh Dan!
@@KerryDMcCauley For sure!
Man this is awesome - always wanted to do this with my 340A!
It was easy. Of course you have to take some seats out and that can be a pain. Do the seats come out easily in a 340?
@@KerryDMcCauleysuper easy!
@@SusheePerumal Go for it then!
The last thing to be done is refrigerator for cold beer!
Got that right!
👍✅ Love it Kerry🤣👏
Thanks!
Another cool idea was a Helio Courier on floats with an outboard motor mounted on a transom and 2 chairs mounted on the floats. Just fly in fish from the plane and fly back to the base camp.
That would be cool.
I would suggest a rain hood and screen door for the door that way it can remain open at night.
I'm working on that. Wanted to use magnets, but aluminum.
@@KerryDMcCauley i would suggest something that hooks in the rain gutter above the door and large suction cups so you have something to tie to.
Harbor Freight has some manual activated cups that may work for you.
@@krissfemmpaws1029 I was thinking about using the rain gutter somehow. Not sure how well suction cups will work with all thee wax on the plane but I'll give it a shot.
@@KerryDMcCauley take the suction cups put a thin bead of clear silicone around the outer edge and place them on wax paper to cure. Most of the time silicone call grip even wax surfaces when suctioning supplied.
@@krissfemmpaws1029 Good tip, I'll give it a try!
well i don't know how to say this, but i think you revived the sky RV trend back from the death and i have nothing else but to thank you. And side note, spaceballs is my favorite mel brooks movie. I hope that when i get my recreational pilots license, i can do something like this, just i need to save enough money.
I'd love to see a fleet of flying RVs touring the world!
You’ll be more comfortable than some. How far from Osh are you?
Only 45 minutes in the Queen Air!
The pilots version of glamping.
Exactly!
@kerry "I don't have a helicopter license, yet....."
Are you coming over to 'The Dark Side'? 😂
Oh heck yes! One day soon.
@@KerryDMcCauley just don’t take out the tail rotor on your second solo. Don’t ask me how I know.
@@glennwatson Lol! I'll keep that in mind!
@@KerryDMcCauley when I was a loader for helicopter pleasure rides (usually on Sundays) back in the 70s, sometimes we would need to refuel on the way home. We would land on the GA apron near the flying club bar and certain airfields would refuse to refuel us because we were a 'helicopter' and not a Cessna🤣 I remember refuelling on a Monday morning and working out there was less than 2 gallons in the tank! The fabulous 1970s when I was young and didn't care about safety!! #goodolddays
Sweet ride.......But do any Karens complain when you fly into "their Airport?" (Noise??) Used to jump out of a QA, was fun but bloody NOISY
Not so far, but she is a noisy one! I used to fly jumpers in a Queen Air back 30 years ago. It was loud, but not as loud as the Twin Bo!
Is a swamp cooler safe for your avionics?
Probably. That's what I'm thinking about using.
I hope so! Good luck
Hello Kerry. Great idea, but you’re obviously bored. You’re probably missing half a dozen grandchildren between the ages of four and six. You know, the little warriors of the invisible battle. And let them into your hangar to play and also give them markers. After their visits you would no longer be bored. I read your book with your autograph, I really liked. I’m watching all your videos, please make a detailed video if you had to fly Cessna310R from Wisconsin to Poland. How would you fly, how to calculate the fuel, landing points, risck management and other details. I would very much like to listen to your professional opinion. Thank you.
Not bored yet! Good idea for a video!

Hi Kerry. To make a little challenging for you, this is a plane you would fly to Europe. C 310R/ 163 gal TF, engines Continental 325hp/side, plane equipped with standard OX tank. Your destination is LZTT.
If you can make it video about trips like that, it would be very interesting and informative.
@@transporterdispatch231 Sounds like you have a trip in mind!
@@KerryDMcCauley
No. I wish, but no. Maybe sometime in the future. I'm area survey pilot, flying 310R and Chieftans. Stuck in San Marcos. TX, can't finished my maps because the clouds. I borne in Eastern Europe, and I wish to make a trip like that, but not yet.
I watched all exciting videos about you ferrying a airlines around the world. I just like it who you are, your experience, knowledge.... I would love to jump in with experience pilot like you and fly a trip like that.
I got an few more days and I'm going home, three months working with out rotation, I think it's enough. Couple weeks off, and back between the clouds.
